I haven't rode in a very long time and a friend is selling me a 1985 TRX he obtained through family that is in pristine condition. I have a few questions since he can't find the manual- and sorry if I come off dumb or "noobish".
1) Gears- these are 5 speed right? 5 down and up is back to neutral?
2) 4 stroke 10-w30 for oil? How much?
3) spark gap?
Thanks for your time. |

Yes 10-w30 will work just fine, it's what I use. The shifting is usually 1 down 4 up with nuetral between 1 and 2. Don't know about the gap but the oil should have either a viewing glass on the side of the motor or a dip stick. |

So, to be certain gear down is first, then up, up, up, up and neutral would be back down? I think I remember that now, it's been a while.
Thanks again! |

Correct, push all the way down until it won't click any more and that is 1st,About half a click up will be nuetral. Kind of hard to find on some bikes. I have a friend who has the same quad I do. I find nuetral no problem, he CANNOT get nuetral if the bike is on or running. All the gears are up except 1st is down. When down shifting everything is down.
Just remember, there are no dumb questions. Just dumb people who DON'T ask and end up with a busted quad because they took a guess. |

I'm sure I'll find neutral, I used to have a 250 Big Red about 20 years ago and never remember having a problem with it- it's just been a while.
Here's a photo of it. |

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's a 250Xfourtrax.The "X" models were usually the sport models and the "fourtrax" models were the utes.I have a '91 250X and it doesn't look like that pic
