Hi Everyone, I recently purchased a very used 98 Xplorer 400L. I have had the entire engine rebuilt and that part works great. I've noticed two issues with the transmission. First time out it seems to only top out about 20 to 25 mph. I have replaced the belt and still the same. Second time out same speed issue. Now it doesnt want to stay in gear, high or low. Reverse is fine. First thought was linkage but since its both high and low I wasnt sure if wasnt something more. Then add the slow speed I'm really not sure. I have way too much invested to spend much more. Any ideas are truely appreciated. What type of oil do you run in the transmission on these. Like a dummy I never checked that when I had it all appart. Would a low oil level make it act like that. The thing will pull the front end off the ground at low speeds. Thanks

Your centrifugal clutch might not be functioning properly, the oil level or type might hinder some of the tranny functions. I would strongly suggest buying a manual, they are a must have for amyone who is going to be working on their own machines. Until you can get ahold of one, try calling a dealer and talk to a service tech, to see what kind of oil you should use in the tranny.

adjusted the linkage and added transmission fluid. Shifts very smooth now. I think the top end issue is the high speed jet. I premixed the first tank of fuel and I think its clogged. Something must have shifted on the mounting or something but the linkage took care of it.

Good morning, I am new to the forum. I'm 75 years old and love getting ATVs back to usable condition. I particularly like the 2006-2009 Arctic Cat 250 Utility. I currently own 6. The 2006 I am working on only has reverse and low gear. The "drive shaft" in the transmission is completely stripped where the high gear would mesh. Has anyone on here replaced the shaft. I'm told I have to split the case. I was hoping that someone on here could let me know how hard it will be. I already have it stripped down to where the shaft coming in from the clutch side is the only thing left. I was hoping I could just remove the driven clutch and drive it out from there. Directions say different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2000 Polaris Xplorer 400.  No start, has spark. Has fuel ,found Low Compression less than 60 psi.  What to do next?? Going crazy here.
      Problem number 2.
1994 polaris Sportsman 400 starter won't engage.  Button on left side with  light switch seems to be almost stuck in, weak spring behind button?

      Any help would be nice.

I rebuilt the carb on said machine. When I hook up the auxiliary gas tank it runs fine and everything is cool. When I put the fuel tank on and hooked up the lines, it completely flooded the cylinder and even about an inch of fuel in the air box. I'm pretty sure that it comes from the little hose on the petcock and hooks to the top of the carb. WTH is that even for? I mean the thing runs fine on the auxiliary tank, so idk And on the petcock when it's in the "on" position, I get no fuel. The petcock from the bike I took it apart and checked out how it operates. The sharpie marks indicate how it really works. Now the other petcock w/o the sharpie marks is an old one that was leaking that I removed from a Polaris quad. It's exactly the same thing, except the small hose and nipple have been removed. I'm so confused, LOL

I'm working on a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 400 with shift indicator problems. The indicator panel only will show Neutral and Reverse. If it's in High or Low, the indicator will show "R".
I have replaced the three position indicator switch on the transmission. There is also a two position switch on the tranny that I didn't replace. If anyone is familiar with this problem, please let me know what I need to do. Any help is greatly appreciated!
