2003 Cannondale Cannibal/need help

I have an 03 cannondale cannible. I picked it up at an auction not running. I have replaced the injectors, fuelpump, fuel filters, fuel reg. and have had the ecu tested. I can only get it to start once in a while and only if i put a fresh plug in. When it runs it pushes oil through the breather tube that runs from the frame to the air box. Could it need a valve adj. and if so, how do you do it. Or does anyone else have any suggestions to try.

Sounds like you are pushing air/fuel into the crankcase because your piston/rings aren't holding compression. Common problem with high performance 4-strokes. My LT-R is starting to do the same thing. I suppose bad valve guide/seals could cause the same problem. Check the oil and see if it smells like gas.

It will still get pressurized along with the crank case, it is directly connected to the crankcase, the breather tube that comes out of the frame is what is supposed to regulate crankcase pressure. When a piston/rings or valve guides/seals get worn, compression leaks by and over pressurizes the crankcase and pushes oil out of the breather. This will also happen if you have too much oil in the machine.

I have a 2004 ATK 450. Basically the same. There is design flaws galore with these bikes. There was an update for a hose allows the frame rails(oil reservoir) to breath properly. Its a mess. I talked to a genlteman named BRAD about several issues. There is more to come. He was with BlackWidow ATV. They purchased alot of the ATK and cannondale inventory. Now, do you still own it? Also look into Highland cyles. US Highland They are using alot of cannondale and ATK frames.

I know this is way off topic here, but I think this thread may be dead anyway. You say you have talked to someone from Black Widow ATV. I have heard legend of a counterballaned 625cc two stroke motor made by the folks at Black Widow called the "Red Head". I have always wondered if it were true. I have a picture of said motor, and as you can see, it appears to be in a Cannondale frame.

Have you tried contacting Blackwidow atv in Utah? There is also another guy out of Washington state that has helped me. He has all the updates for fuel and oil lines, and everything else you need for your cannondale. PM me and I'll be glad to pass on his info.

Looks like your throwing parts at it instead of basic diagnostics. Fuel pumps ,injectors and regulators are highly reliable and rarely if ever fail.

Oil pumping out the breather is an indication that your scavange pump is not working. The oil is being pushed out the crankcase from the breather system. Thats also the reason your fouling plugs as its going through the rings.

The engine needs what ALL cannondales need and that is a basic rebuild by someone who knows the basic updates or willing to learn. Its not hard and doesnt cost a lot but it has to be done. After being done they should have as long and reliable life as any other sport quad.

Hi, I am having issues with my TRX350D fuel pump.  It suddenly stopped running so I have replaced all the fuses and cleaned all the terminals.  I have fitted a new pump, fuel cut-off relay and rectifier.  Still nothing!!  The pump runs when attached to a battery.  The engine will start on the choke and the filter fills with fuel but it will  not rev and dies when the choke is closed. I have power to the relay but nothing at the pump black/white wire when cranking the engine.  Any ideas where to go from here would be very much appreciated!!

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.
