I have this 97 warrior that was running and just died, no compression, I pulled it apart and the exhaust valve isnt closing all the way, It appears the rocker arm isnt coming back all the way, preventing the valve from closing. It doesnt seem to be a problem with the cam. I put a light in the head and at top center I can move the cam between the valves like it should. The rocker arm just seems to stop short of coming back, leaving pressure on the valve spring. I am unable to see what is stopping the rocker arm. It does not appear to be the cam.??????
Any thoughts???????

Somebody help !!! I have an 03 Yamaha Warrior 350 and everything was running great up until a few days ago when I cranked up for a quick run around...

Somebody help !!! I have an 03 Yamaha Warrior 350 and everything was running great up until a few days ago when I cranked up for a quick run around the yard and it won’t do anything but idle. It starts easy, idles ok, but the second I touch the throttle it starts bogging and backfiring etc and dumping a mist of raw gas back out the air inlet side of carburetor.

I’ve pulled the carburetor apart now three times checking things out and unfortunately don’t know enough about these small carburetors to tell if something’s worn out. No visible damage or anything. But one thing I did notice was that the needle has some wear where it runs through the slide, but like I said, I don’t really know what the wear limits are as I cant find info on that stuff anywhere.

The ignition timing is right on the money, I checked the valve clearance and they were ok, the coil checks out good, etc. But wonder if it could be the CDI breaking down under load or maybe the same thing with the stator?

Cylinder compression was also check and came out above average at about 125 psi.

I’ve talked to a few ATV mechanics that say it’s still the carburetor based on what I tell them. You can definitely tell it’s running way rich at idle due to the strong smell of unburned fuel.
One thing that does strike an interest is with a timing light on it at idle, the fire is strong and consistent. But when you try and give her a little more throttle the fire is intermittent right along with the miss in the engine. The spark plug is brand new, but the one I just removed did have noticable soot on the electrode and beneath the threads.

It's done this a few times before, but only for a few seconds or until I get it warmed up halfway decent. Then it reved fine and hauled a**s as usual.

I have debated on buying a new carburetor, CDI box, etc… but that combined is about 600-700 bucks, and I just don’t want to start throwing parts at it.

I have even pulled the side cover to make sure the stator and such weren’t damaged.

I am pretty much at a stand still and dont know where else to look. Could it really be the carb?

Please tell me there's somebody out there who has had the same issue and figured it out????

For starters, I'm not a mechanic, but due to economic times I've been forced to repair my own ATV. My clutch had been slipping for some time, so I bought a service manual and ordered new parts. I put in the new clutch plates and reinstalled just the way it came apart. Now my Big Bear won't even move at all. I put 10WX30 in and then changed to 20WX50 with the same results thinking it was the oil. The oil isn't synthetic. Any help would be appreciated.

hey everyone, i just found this forum since i just bought my first quad. i've grown up riding dirtbikes and quads, but this is the first one thats actually mine. its a 97, 400cc. pretty good shape for the year it is i think, and i got a pretty good deal on it. i've adjusted the front brakes to where i can get some good grab out of them, and the rear caliper lever gets stuck in the braked position, so i bought some new springs, and a rod and cable for good measure for the rear, which will be put on tomorrow. if anyone has any advice for a newb on these machines, let me know. thanks!

2005 Yamaha Kodiak 450 Smoke

I got my 450 running again after it sat for a year. Fresh fuel, cleaned plug, ect.

A little bit of history, when I got it (brand new) it seemed to smoke a little bit. It smelled like gas so I figured it was rich. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem or not.

Now I took it out and rode for 10 or so miles this weekend and it definitely isn't the wheeler it used to be. It is slower and doesn't run as well. Dies at idle usually and is harder to start.

And it is really smoking, not at all when I'm on the gas, but all the time when I let off the throttle and it's slowing down. I mean, I think the thing is burning oil like no tomorrow. Does anyone else think this is it?

I guess it's probably time for a rebuild. I don't even have 1000 miles on it yet. I would like to bore it and get a high compression piston and cam and such, but I would like some info on that too.

Any answers are great, thanks in advance!

Oh and I forgot, the heat indicator light has been coming on and off.
