The bottom of a drainage ditch and a swingset

Recommended Posts

Rough night, tons of tasty beverages involved. Well you might have seen my thread on my new Zilla mud tires on my 700cc 4 wheeler. Well after 3 solid days of rain me and a buddy decided to go see what we could go get into. We left out about 2am and took off down some dirt roads near the house. We went into an empty grown up lot (est 10 acres) and went a path we have been down a dozen times before. I guess I miscalculated our path and we pummeled down past a 6ft tall concrete culvert with the 4 wheeler on top of us in a shallow pool of old rain water. I estimate it was about a 10 ft drop off straight down. We immediately flipped the 4 wheeler right side up and after choosing an appropriate path out, it started and took us home. Here's what she looked like the next day: Damage was front and rear racks, brake handle, and sticky throttle.

Remember where I said sticky throttle???? Well as I went to put it in the garage later that evening, I blipped the throttle while I wasn't hanging on, did a backflip off the rear rack and watched the 4 wheeler drive itself into the kids swingset. Damn it.

Well I've got a new swingset coming and spent a few hours repairing and cleaning the bike and she looks like it never happened.

Those racks saved a lot of damage.  You lucked out for not having any broken limbs. That's one tuff quad wow. You could say you drove off a cliff with a passenger.

Hi guys. I have a problem where the quad will start and run well for about 5 minutes and then it dies. On inspection the airbox has oil in it (quite a lot). The oil is pumping through the cylinder head breather hose. This problem first happened suddenly. I have since done the top end including, piston, gaskets, rings and valves. I have also done the carb (not that I thought that this was the problem). The compression seems normal. The only thing that I can think of, is that I did not grind the valves well enough. Anyone experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? Any other thoughts?

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

Just thought I'd start a new thread for newbies to the site!
If you're new here, tell us who you are, where you're from and what you ride!!!
Lets get to know each other a little better shall we?
I'm not new to the site, obviously, but...
I'm Kristin from Denver!!! I ride a 2008 Yamaha Rhino. She's my muddy baby!!!!!! Several aftermarket parts on her. She's good to me! We try and ride every weekend. This weekend we're off to MOAB! :woot:

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.
