Getting a Fourtrax

Going to pick up a 300 2 WD Fourtrax 2000 model I believe. Getting it Saturday for my nephew. The brakes are shot but I hear these things are indestructible. Anybody know of anything I should be on the lookout for? I'll be responsible for maintenance.

what you heard is correct. i would go with a k&n oil filter and get the honda synthetic oil for the bike.

Got the quad. The rear end makes a loud squeaking noise when it moves slowly. Should I change out the rear end oil, and if so, what kind should I use?

Best bet would be to get a service manual from Oxidized Black if he has one. See what it recommends. That way you eliminate hearsay

Also might be the rear brake hanging up. Maybe the park brake is adjusted too much. My two yamaha moto 4s always squeeked when riding slow till i resurfaced the rear brake rotor and changed the pads

I checked the rear end and the fluid is black. Can't get the rear wheel off to get to the drain plug off, but I hit it with PB Blaster to loosen it up. I'll check those brakes out. Appreciate the info!

Got the fluid changed in the rear end, still makes noise, so it's the brakes, I'm sure.
