New Ride

Hey guys, looking at trading my motorcycle for this Honda ATV. Is this a TRX450? Can anybody tell anything just by looking at the pic? I'll eventually go check it out and look for paperwork, numbers, decals, etc.

I've ridden it before and it rides hard, but I didn't think I'd have the opportunity to own it, so i didn't really go into the details. Anything you can tell me from the pic would be great.

Thanks,

Ra

Well its a 1st gen TRX450R (so 2004 or 2005) which are both good years and have fairly reliable motors, it looks like almost everything is stock besides the pro armor nerf bars and bumper, and im guessing the engine is also mostly stock because it still has the stock exhaust system. How much is your motorcycle worth that you are trading?

well it's a 99 harley superglide sport. probably 4-5k, but it's got some dings, rust and now and engine ticking. I love the thing, but it's just gotten to be too much of a burden. every riding season i get the kinks worked out, fire it up and ride it, but about half way thru the season something goes wrong on it again. HD just costs too much.

kinda funny. the HD was my dads, i got it from him when he got a new one. His ole lady bought him this honda to play around with but he'd rather have a dirtbike (plus when he hit the hay bails, i think he may have decided he's too old for all this stuff LOL...

So he wants to fix up the old harley and wants to know if i want to trade straight up. I'm probably gonna do it, but a little part of me really wants to hold on to the HD

That 450 looks like its probably worth about $2000-$2500 or maybe a little more depending on where you are. And if it runs well i would say go for it although it doesn't sound like it would be a vary fair straight trade if your harley is really worth 4-5k..

Well like i said, it was originally my dads and he gave me a hookup anyway. And like i said hat 4-5k would be without the flaws. So its probably fair considering everything. When i rode it las year it did seem to bog a little but not much. II'll change fluids and give it a good cleaning if/when i get it.

I would say that the Harley is still probably worth more and you should get some cash or something else on top of the Honda in the trade. But if the quad is worth more to you than the Harley, then...

I will also confirm that the quad in the picture is a TRX 450R '04 or '05 like Tages said. The early 450Rs have an oil cooler and a stronger tranny. Most desert racers prefer these older models because of these things. I had an '04 and it was a good bike, the have a completely different personality than the '06 and newer. The newer ones are faster, but the old ones have more low end grunt and more potential IMO because they have a longer stroke and a more aggressive cam profile, add a big bore cylinder and a high comp piston, these things can be a real beast.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and info on the bike. I actually heard that it may have had some engine work done to it but i cant remember. Im still on the fence whether i will trade or not. That harley is a monster and i love it but i just dont know if i (or the wife) want to spend the money to fix it again. I really like the idea of riding thru the woods all weekend every know and then too. ... we'll see i guess.

Good news is either way i go i can probably ride them both every now and then. Might even keep the bike and buy the quad who knows. Lol. Take the cake AND eat dat #@&$ too.

Haha... naw thanks... I gotta figure out if I want to keep the one I have LOL. I think it's going to come down whether I can talk the wife into letting me fix the Harley. If she says take it to the shop and doesn't give me any flak, I'll probably keep the Harley and bum the quad from my pops every now and then. Tell him he can keep it cozy in my garage for a weekly ride fee, LOL.

What kind of Harley do you have though?... just out of curiosity

wow... nice bike. That first pic is an awesome one too with all the leaves on the ground around it.

Here's mine... actually the pic makes it look better than it does in person. Can't see the rust spots in the pic. If I could clean it up, replace a few parts and get rid of the tapping noise though she'd be perfect.

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!
