UPDATE

ello

far as I could tell no power to the cdi , on any of the seven wire , ignition on .

tested ohms on red /black red wires , , exciter coil,

3.20 m - 3.50 m ohms on my auto ranging meter

I don't fully trust the meter to be honest , bought second hand .

what is ,m, is K 1000 ??? m 1000 000 ???

the pick up coil measures 120 ohms so that's ok ??

I found the two wires to the exciter were badly nipped by the tank , between tank and the frame BUT the wires seen to have not been damaged and the ohm test is basically the same tested either side of the nip. simple broken wire would have been nice eh.

do I go and buy another meter to test the exciter ? if it is a high reading what does that mean ? would that explain the fault.

thanks in advance

tom

the vin is really hard to see as oil and dirt are on it ... take a flashlight and basically, on your back, rub with a rag on the lower rail of the frame in front of the toe shifter and you should see it ... as far as no spark, i would say stator or the pick-up coil ... if the bike is 10 yrs old, i (myself) would replace the stator which comes with the pick up coil ...

thanx

on the spark issue , I removed the cover / stator is inside , much easyer than I thought ,

4 wires , 8 windings , two of are blackened /burnt , that's were the exciter coil wires go ,no continuity on those two.

other winding, wires has continuity so I think is fine .

took it to a local quad shop he might be able to have it repaired

also slight damage on the outside edge , bits of a small coil spring on magnets of flywheel / slight damage to stator.

is the vin stamped under the bike then near the bottom bash guard ? I was looking from above or from the outside , not looked under tbh , the guy at quad shop said its had to find also , he thinks a red / black mudguards is a early one .

thanks again gents

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

I WANTED TO UPGRADE THE CARBURATOR ON MY 1992 BIG BEAR 350, SO I ORDERED A NEW CARB FROM EBAY.  ACCORDING TO THE WRITE-UP IT WAS A GOOD FIT FOR BIG BEARS FROM 1988 TO 1996.  WHEN I REMOVED MY ORIGINAL CARB I NOTICED THAT IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE NEW CARB MY CARB HAD TWO THROTTLE  CABLES THE NEW CARB ONLY HAD ONE CABLE.  HOW CAN I MAKE THIS CARB WORK ON MY TWO CABLE THROTTLE?

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.
