1999 Suzuki King Quad - Wont Start

Recommended Posts

My King Quad was running fine and then decided it wouldnt crank again. I can spray fuel into the carb and it will crank and cut off. I removed the fuel line and could blow thru the line into the tank but couldnt pull any from the tank, also I removed the top of the carb and pulled what looks to be the diaphragm out and sprayed cleaner into the carb, placed it back and again it fired for a couple of seconds and cut off, it would only idle, couldnt throttle it none. everytime i messed with this it would idle for couple of seconds and shut off. other than that it will not crank at all.

Im guessing maybe the diaphragm or something but I dont know, any ideas??

thanks in advance

Fuel does not come out at all of the fuel line, i can however blow thru the line. Nothing was done except changed the air filter. The engine turns over fine, nothing electrical seems wrong with it. Its like its not getting any fuel to crank or run unless you manually give it some!

Could be your fuel pump. It should pulse when you take it off and crank it. Check the vacuum hose to it for holes. Also check if there is fuel in that vacuum hose. If there is, your diaphragm in the pump is shot. Also be sure there is enough fuel in the tank to be above both inlet screens

You can check the fuel pump by disconnecting the fuel line at the carb and hitting the starter. Gas should squirt out of the line in small pulses. You can check the vacuum line at the front right side of the carb by removing it and looking to see if it is wet. Since it is a vacuum line it should be dry as a bone. Also look at both lines for cracks. If you have to replace the fuel pump, it is on the left side of the frame below the handlebars. You will have to remove the front rack and fenders to get at it. You might also want to ask oxidized_black for a service manual download. It has a couple pictures of the fuel pump. They aren't real good as far as showing the location, though.

And as oxy says check the petcock. If you pull the line off at the petcock, gas should run out of the petcock when you turn it to on or res. The gas then goes forward to the fuel pump. then down to the carb.

Hi guys. I have a problem where the quad will start and run well for about 5 minutes and then it dies. On inspection the airbox has oil in it (quite a lot). The oil is pumping through the cylinder head breather hose. This problem first happened suddenly. I have since done the top end including, piston, gaskets, rings and valves. I have also done the carb (not that I thought that this was the problem). The compression seems normal. The only thing that I can think of, is that I did not grind the valves well enough. Anyone experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? Any other thoughts?

Hi, I am having issues with my TRX350D fuel pump.  It suddenly stopped running so I have replaced all the fuses and cleaned all the terminals.  I have fitted a new pump, fuel cut-off relay and rectifier.  Still nothing!!  The pump runs when attached to a battery.  The engine will start on the choke and the filter fills with fuel but it will  not rev and dies when the choke is closed. I have power to the relay but nothing at the pump black/white wire when cranking the engine.  Any ideas where to go from here would be very much appreciated!!

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

Bucking started about a month ago and works ok after 1/2 hour warmup.  Today while working on it i discovered that if i put the ignition switch in LIGHT position it runs fine right from the start.
I'm stumped!  Any idea why this could be?
