1999 king quad 300 troubles

bought this atv back in 2001 and in the lst few years it has only had a couple weeks of use per year.. the main reason is it has got cold blooded and wont start good.. have had 2 different qualified people rebuild carb to try and solve starting issues and it still isnt right.. according to the info i have found out here and other areas it has the x version carb in it which is no longer available,, i am looking to possibly replace the carb with something but dont know who made the original and do not know the model of a comparable carb,, the valves have been checked and it doesnt have alot hours on it.. the best way to start this thing is to put 2 fingers over the the top breather tub if you can get your hand in there and try to get it on the sweet spot with choke and start button or throttle lever.. so if any of you have some input on this head ache i am all ears thanks for your responses.. also the choke doesnt seem to do alot for it.. in the past i have had to runt he choke part open or closed to get it to run regular.. also have had it back fire big time on a couple early mourning runs tot he tree stand.. which is just what the doctor didnt order:)

I wouldnt go for a new carb yet. You have the original carb right?

My first thought is valves. You said they were checked. Was it done at TDC and did you have slight play in both the push stems? Gap should be around .005 inch.

How is your spark?

How is the compression?

Back firing suggests a rich fuel mixture. Check that the choke is not stuck open and the fuel delivery system vacuum tubes in the picture. Should be no fuel in them.

The valve faces wear as they bang up against the head seats. This creates a gap on the sealing face that intake and exhaust gases can pass through. Hence on the compression stroke, it leaks. Cars have hydraulic lifters that compensate for this. Wheelers don't. You have to back off the rocker arm stems to facilitate full valve travel. My kids ride these old king quads about 400 miles a season and I have to adjust valves every year.

Not hard to do, just a bit intricate. Get a manual and read up on it.

new questions on carb, this cold weather has it acting up.. and the fix it guy asked me to find out some specs.. i down loaded a repair manual but it doesnt list a couple parts he asked about..he asked for specs on AIR JET, i have spec on pilot jet air, is that the same part? another part he asked about was the jet needle clip position and the manual says nothing about that? and his last question was the pilot screw opening, all i have is pilot screw, 2 5/8 turns back? so where can get his answers if the manual didnt have them.. or do i have them just his questions were duplicated? this is a 1999 king quad 300 manual transmission, thanks again for this forums help if you can give me a link to a manual to look at that would be sweet..

in order to start it i have to play with throttle and catch it just right.. this afternoon we had this happen.. it has tried to start every am cold as it been.. with full choke and push start button, then i have to play with the throttle to get it to go if it tries again, even if i try to part choke it it wont set and idle,, but once i get it just right and rev it up i can make go and it will run fine to the shanty about a mile or so away then it will idle a while then i will shut it off.. when done fishing, it starts all over again but it will go if i can catch it just right by feathering the throttle to get it to go.. we have sprayed carb cleaner all over the breather tube the black rubber tubes coming off the carb to see if i had a air leak and no sign of that problem.. we are looking at checking the fuel pump next???

thanks for taking time to help, tim.. yes its outside in the weather with a tarp over it..just a quick question on the battery, is there a bigger one that i could get for it.. yesterday am it fired on the first turn like normal then i went to the part on choke position and tried to feather the throttle to get it to go but i missed the special spot to many times and battery went dead.. was gonna ride double and gave it one more time and i hit the sweet spot and off we went.. this machine gives me the feeling that if i could get it on frnt of a knowledgeable person that its just a small change in a setting and it will be fixed.. because it fires first time in even frigid weather.. but wont stay running with out some feathering and retries..aggravating for sure

These rigs don't handle the cold very well. I left my 94 plow rig out for a week. Unfortunately a cold snap hit and the battery froze. Can't get it to start either. Wheels freeze up on it too.

I don't know of a bigger battery you could get, except maybe for the expensive gel types.

Since yours was running fine before, I suggest putting it in a warm space and let it thaw for a day. Put a fresh charge on the battery if still good. Troubleshoot thereafter.

yeah had the left wheel freeze this year ,,used the dead blow trick i learned from here and she loosened up.. will take it apart and clean out the crap in there next warm spell.. with a hot battery it cranks pretty good,, but cold drained it the other day.. if i could i put a car battery on it or maybe a larger motor cycle battery..something with more cranking amps?

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

Hello everyone, I just picked up an 02 LT-F250F the other day and have been in the process of tearing it down to fix some stuff- one of which was the cylinder base gasket leaking like a sieve. Well, I know why that is now, and I also discovered that someone had been in there before. I didn't take pictures, but it looks like it was probably run low on oil at some point, the cam journals and the "bearings" (for lack of a better term) in the head and the valve cover are totally wiped out, very deep grooves.  From what I know it's very difficult to repair aluminum in this way, so I'm trying to figure out where to go next.

      1. Have someone grind down the head and valve cover and fit actual bearings in since the aluminum is screwed, and have the cam ground down to match.  I have no idea what this would cost.
      2. Buy a replacement head+cam+valve cover.

#1 I was hoping someone might have some advice on, but #2 seems like it'll (probably) be the more cost effective option.  However I'm running into some difficulty, it seems like the 2001 and 2002 models specifically use a different head part number,  11100-19B10, instead of  11100-19B01 like for all earlier models.  What exactly is the difference between them? There are obviously far more of the earlier heads because it ran for over 10 years.  Are they actually interchangeable? I've also noticed there are heads from the LT250EF that has 4 valve heads but also otherwise look identical.  Would those work as well possibly?  I'd like to not have to drop $500 on machine work or new heads on a $1300 quad that I'm already putting a bunch of new parts on.  Oh, and it has a new piston and the cylinder itself looks pretty good too, as I said someone was in here before me.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll post pics of the carnage tomorrow.

      Hello there
I'm having a problem finding a quality carburetor for a 1993 Suzuki Quad Runner lt-f 250 2x4. I find a lot that have 3-4 star ratings. And all so far don't have the right throttle Cable inlet at the top. The last one I got 4 star on Amazon has a threaded cable sheath rest that could be partially drilled to work. I would prefer to get one I don't have to modify. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

I’m looking for a top end kit for a Yamaha. I would like to see how well the engine runs before spending $6-$7 hundred on oem. Niche has complete kits from $1-$2 hundred.  Anyone have experience with Niche or similar Chinese companies?
