Help! Carburetor Air jet setting??

Recommended Posts

I have a 1996 King Quad 300 LT-F4WDX ATV

I tried to install a carburetor rebuild kit but there were no instructions and I am unable to find them. Anybody know what the "Pilot Screw" is set at? The engine starts but seems to be flooding- very difficult to get the rpms up and engine acts flooded.

I set the screw to 3 turns from closed. It is called the "Pilot Screw" on exploded views of the carb.

It is a Mikuni BST 31 single carb.

Thanks for any help!

Three turns out is a little rich, at least according to the manual. The stock setting is a little less than 3, 2 3/4 or 2 7/8.

Three should not cause serious flooding problems though, I wouldnt think. I would check the choke and make sure you dont have fuel coming down the carb vent lines from the fuel petcock.

Thx for your advice! After removing the carb a second time and finding fuel in the vent line I put my tail between my legs and hauled the machine to the dealer for repair. While there I bought a polaris 450 sportsman. Seems like a very different machine with the "automatic" CVT transmission.

I sstill like the King Quad- my favorite. But thanks again! Bill in Homer AK

A friend of mine has a Sportsman 500, its a really nice machine. Its huge compared to my KQ, but the extra power is probably worth the trade-off in size.

Sounds like your vacuum fuel petcock is bad. You can convert to a manual, you can get them on eBay for $20 or so. You just have to remember to shut the fuel off when you park and turn it back on when you want to ride.

I didnt notice you started this thread in July. I was a little late to the party.
