oil drain stripped on 2004 honda 350 rancher any suggestions on way to fix, mechanic wants $1000 to replace pan

Helical inserts, more commonly known by the trademark Heli-coil,[7] are inserts made of coiled wire. The insert is inserted into a tapped hole that is larger than the desired hole. They are usually over-sized so that they anchor themselves. Some have tangs to install them while others don't. Special tools are required to install the inserts

that's how dealers and machine shops do it. You may need to remove the engine so the machinist can get to it....

$1000 to replace a case half is ridiculous by the way, I think whoever quoted you that price needs a kick in the groin just for general purpose.
