converting quad to street yr around transportation

Recommended Posts

I'm new to QuadCrazy but have ridden quads a little but, no racing or tack experience.

Most of my experience is on the street with two wheels...BUT its winter way too long here and im looking into streeting out a quad for yr around commuting around town and fun in the summer with only a few adjustments and swaps.

Still dont have a quad but money isnt exactly an issue.

I want to find a good used quad nothing too old and beat up for sure.

Obviously wanting to lower it a bit and make it more stable on the street.

wheel spacers?

swingarm extender?

street tires...

im not exactly sure what should be dont first to a quad in terms of making it better for the street.

of course anything required for legalizing it.

Also i need to look into if all quads are able to be street legalized or if race quads cant be.

Im in MT but when i was in HI quads couldnt be street legalized and bikes were more difficult if they were race models.

Thanks for all the input you may have!

before anything, check your local department of transportation laws ...

sometimes its easier to convert a 4 wheeler to 3 and get away with it that way ...

Ya im not too worried about it. There are a few ppl i see riding quads around town all the time...no mirrors even, just using hand signals.

But i want to be legit.

Hi guys. I have a problem where the quad will start and run well for about 5 minutes and then it dies. On inspection the airbox has oil in it (quite a lot). The oil is pumping through the cylinder head breather hose. This problem first happened suddenly. I have since done the top end including, piston, gaskets, rings and valves. I have also done the carb (not that I thought that this was the problem). The compression seems normal. The only thing that I can think of, is that I did not grind the valves well enough. Anyone experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? Any other thoughts?

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!
