What ATV should I get

Recommended Posts

Our family has a 1996 Honda fourtrax 300 and I really like it, it is small easy to work on, and we have had to do nothing but routine mantenance on it. I am looking for a atv for myself to make small modifications to. I like instruments for oil, rpm, volts, etc. 4x4 is a must. I don't like the prices of these new ones, so $1,000 -$2,000 would be my price range. What would be a good atv to look for in this price range?

wylde1, thanks for the advice.

Has anyone ever added a analog tach, pictures?

No problem. It's tough to answer that question because what I think is an awesome quad you might get and then find out that it is not comfortable. Ergonomics are different on certain machines and not everyone is built the same. Research is the key and the internet makes it easy to find information.

Maybe a late 90s honda foreman? They are around 2500 - 3000 around me on LI NY. So it should be cheaper elsewhere

You can search for Polaris Magnum, Trail Boss, or Scrambler. All lot of those rigs are in that price range. Parts are pretty easy to get. Some are two stroke, some are 4 stroke. If the gauges don't work, I wouldn't waste money trying to fix them. I would just pick up a trail tech vapor (about $75) and it'll give you rpm, mph, odometer, etc.

Hi guys. I have a problem where the quad will start and run well for about 5 minutes and then it dies. On inspection the airbox has oil in it (quite a lot). The oil is pumping through the cylinder head breather hose. This problem first happened suddenly. I have since done the top end including, piston, gaskets, rings and valves. I have also done the carb (not that I thought that this was the problem). The compression seems normal. The only thing that I can think of, is that I did not grind the valves well enough. Anyone experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? Any other thoughts?

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

Howdy y'all, I'm trying to fix a neighbors 2015 Brute Force 300. Came in with hard to start and won't idle except on choke issue. I pulled the carb and found the pilot jet as well as the emulsion tube partially clogged. Cleaned up everything, put it back together, still having issues...  It will start right up on choke and will also start off choke if you give it just a touch of throttle but it absolutely will not idle unless it's choked just a touch. Also, excuse my ignorance but I'm assuming the "dial" thingy attached to the carb that turns in and out is for setting idle??
