Grizzly vs Rancher

Hello, brand new here to the forum and new to ATV ownership.

Have decided to go with either a 2010 Honda Rancher AT with power steering or a 2009 - 2010 Yamaha Grizzly 550 with Power steering.

Which quad would you recommend and why?

What kind of riding do you do? The Honda Corporation does not think that hitting mud holes and stuff like that is not smart ATVing so they do not market their quads to those people.

Both machines are extremely capable. The Grizzly will be the better choice for an aggressive rider. If you just want something to cruise on and enjoy the outdoors, the Honda will be the better machine as far as fit and finish.

I agree with Stoobidbot, that the Grizzly may be tougher, and if you want to ride rough, it would be the better choice. I would also like to add that the Rancher is not incapable of being a decent trail rig. A freind of mine has an '04 Rancher 350ES, and he rode the hell out of it for the next 4 years, mudding, trail riding, jumping, and just beating the hell out of it in general. Granted, it is now damaged beyond conventional repair, but it was flat out abused on a weekly basis for over 4 years. If he would have just kept all four wheels on the ground, I think it would still be fine. It still runs and rides, but the swingarm is loose and it will take some refabrication of the mounts to properly fix it. Bottom line, considering the abuse and lack of maintenence, I thought it held up pretty well.

For play the 420 AT Rancher. For work, build up and mud the 550. Also consider the 700 Grizz. I think it is $600 to $800 more than the 550. Both are proven quads. Just depends on power and what fits you.

Both are very nice quads. I would probably go with a new Grizzly with EPS, myself.

What did you end up buying?

the only difference I can think of is that the Grizz has a belt and the Honda does not. There have not been any problems reported with the dual stage belt system Yamaha uses. Were it my choice I'd get the Yammer- and I have a garage full of Hondas...

i would get the grizzly ....got 1 and its bad as* an its alot cheaper on parts than the honda ... the tranny system will cost a fortune to repair or replace on the honda ...
