learning how to work on my quad myself
Posted On 03/21/2012 19:21:52 by trailridinqueen
Well Im so frustrated!! Its riding season again and I want to go riding but somethings wrong with my kfx 450. Normally I would of just had my husband fix it, but now that im divorced I gotta mess with fixin it too instead of just gettin to ride. Its just really frustrating cuz the whole time we were together I would alway ask if I could come out and help/watch him do regular maintence to it but he just acted like I would be in the way. So now I gotta figure it out as I go I guess. First things first, I have to change the oil and plug, and that would be interesting enough if I could just figure that out myself but I also am about to replace the battery then I have to figure out whats making the fan not run sometimes. Im hoping it might just be that since the battery was messed up it just didnt have enough power to turn the fan on sometimes, but im pretty sure its a temp sensor or the fan relay, and the only way to replace the fan relay is to buy the whole fan assembly at $230 or somehow put a toggle switch on it so i can manually make the fan run. I know that all of this probably would be easy to someone whos mechanically inclined, but im not :( hopefully I will be whenever I research how to do everything enough to finally be brave enough (or stupid enough) to start taking things apart. Wish me luck :)

The internet is a good source for info and how to's. I stumble through most of my own work too. I have a repair manual for my quad and I know Oxidized_black just posted a bunch of links on here for many different manuals. Also sometimes you can find how to videos on youtube. If you just do a web search you can usually find a bunch of info to help you out also. The cost you save in labor and the satisfaction from doing it yourself are well worth the research time. Good luck and hope to see you back riding soon.
