It’s most likely 180 deg out of time. It’s very easy to make this mistake.

There are also a few different marks on the flywheel. Make sure that you have the correct mark and make suite it’s on the compression stroke when aligning with the cam.

Aside from the few things listed above the only other things I can think of is the timing chain is jumping off of the sprockets ? Or the pick up coil is loose delivering the spark at the wrong time.

Yea figured it was out of timing as well but set it tdc then aligned cam marks parell to head cams facing away from each other.. There is only one mark on flywheel. Other marks are lil punch marks about 4 or 5 of them around flywheel..tensioner is working properly so its not jumping teeth..sounds like it sparking at wrong combustion..how would i check to see if its not 180 out?

So let’s back up for one second and recap.

Did you pull the head off of so why?

Did the bike run while you own it?

reason I’m asking is in my experience I’ve missed things during a rebuild back in the day and had to go back to see where I failed.

You are missing something. I looked at the manual and can see that there is only one timing mark that’s labeled “c” ?

The  lobes state they should be facing downward and there is a small hole on tye cam sprocket that should be on top ?

I would go back double check that. If all looks right then I would look at tye triggger cool maybe it’s loose ?

Can you post a few pics of the timing marks you see on tye engine as well as the top end cam and sprocket ?

Yes i pulled head off to instalm new shims.no guy said all he did was changed starter clutch n it would never fire for him after that so i reset timing n still nothing. Cams dowward as in tapered part touching valve buckets? If thats the case then yea there off. I have them at 45° facing away from each other as cam sprokets marks are parallel to face of head.

Yeah I’ve got an 07 board out 30 over and when I go to start mine at either spins without catching the flat will or when it does catch I hear almost like a grinding sound like my clutch has blown apart or something and interested to read more about this I’m new to the four stroke game but Damn sure impressed by the amount of torque and just raw power this thing has. First time I test drove it I actually scared myself which gave me a healthy dose of respect for it.

My 2007 ds650 has a similar starting problem, but not as extensive. I can push start Mine anytime and it will start but when I go to use the starter it just spins and sometimes makes a grinding sound not sure what exact parts I need.

You need a sprag clutch but before you order pull your side cover off. Take off the single big nut and washer....THEN your gonna have to order a flywheel puller( not expensive) ok after magneto pops off on the inside is where your problem  is. Should be eight smaller bolts holding a gear to the mag, four of which hold a sprag cradle/housing. Mine was all chewed up and barings were all over the place/ . Now behind the mag and gear you have large starter gear/flywheel. You wanna check the outcroped landing inwhich the sprag rose on. It can’t have any livers or to many dings or problem will repeat itself if not worse. You can find a sprag for as little as twenty or the flywheel and sprag for like  a hundred. Make sure you follow tork specs and use lock tight when putting things back together.

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

Hello everyone, I just picked up an 02 LT-F250F the other day and have been in the process of tearing it down to fix some stuff- one of which was the cylinder base gasket leaking like a sieve. Well, I know why that is now, and I also discovered that someone had been in there before. I didn't take pictures, but it looks like it was probably run low on oil at some point, the cam journals and the "bearings" (for lack of a better term) in the head and the valve cover are totally wiped out, very deep grooves.  From what I know it's very difficult to repair aluminum in this way, so I'm trying to figure out where to go next.

      1. Have someone grind down the head and valve cover and fit actual bearings in since the aluminum is screwed, and have the cam ground down to match.  I have no idea what this would cost.
      2. Buy a replacement head+cam+valve cover.

#1 I was hoping someone might have some advice on, but #2 seems like it'll (probably) be the more cost effective option.  However I'm running into some difficulty, it seems like the 2001 and 2002 models specifically use a different head part number,  11100-19B10, instead of  11100-19B01 like for all earlier models.  What exactly is the difference between them? There are obviously far more of the earlier heads because it ran for over 10 years.  Are they actually interchangeable? I've also noticed there are heads from the LT250EF that has 4 valve heads but also otherwise look identical.  Would those work as well possibly?  I'd like to not have to drop $500 on machine work or new heads on a $1300 quad that I'm already putting a bunch of new parts on.  Oh, and it has a new piston and the cylinder itself looks pretty good too, as I said someone was in here before me.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll post pics of the carnage tomorrow.

Hello guys, I hope I am not invading your space, but as you can see the current state of my project here it's not but about 50% ATV. I am hoping that some one here can point me to a wiring schematic that I can reference since the "Complete wiring harness" i purchased from Amazon did not include a diagram of any kind.

The ones that I am finding on line vary greatly but none show the connections for the separate 5 wire connector coming from the motor.

Can someone tell me where these wires go?

Thanks in advance for all help!

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.
