Walkie Talkies....

Guest

Recommended Posts

A few of us are heading down to Hatfield-McCoy in April and are looking to get headsets for our existing walkies, or get a "better" system.

Thoughts?

Setups?

Headsets?

Build fires on our seats and do smoke signals?

Thanks!

Anybody tried a Buetooth headset inside a helmet?!

I seen a movie called Torque that they used some sort of clamp on device outside of their helmet for their cell phones.I would think those adapters that go on your neck (like the Navy Seals use)would work better. If you have a Nextel phone it has a walkie talkie function that works up to six miles outside of service area. We've tried walkie talkies designed for hunting that were rated for 25 miles;but with all the hills and ravines in my area they don't work but the Nextel does...

That was my idea, (we have nextels) why I suggested the bluetooth? I guess it would be hard to talk with bluetooth... but maybe just direct connect?

heyyy has anyone ever tried to ride w/an MP3 player on inside their helmet? I thought about trying this in my races, any suggestions?

sorry a little bit off topic.....but along the same lines i guesss....

Iv'e tried it once on a trail ride. The problem I found was I couldn't hear if there was another bike or quad behind me. I'm into music way to much for my own good. I also found myself singing with the songs and not paying full attention to my surroundings. Nothing bad ever came out of it, but I could see myself making a critical mistake.

Chatterboxes seem like a good solution, but OF COURSE more than I'm willing to spend ;)

What about regular FRS radios? Motorola?

Thanks for all the suggestions up to now!

Thanks:biggrin:I think I'll have to do a practice ride with one and see how I like it first....I'm just afraid of not being able to hear other bikes, as welll as my own if there's something wrong....thanks for the info

I picked up this set up

They work surprising well even in the canyons !

Motorola T8550r Gmrs/Frs 2-Way Radios With 18-Mile Radios - Gps Gmrs

I hate to sound ig'narnt, but did you also buy it from the vendor who's link you provided?

I'm wary of no-name vendors....been burnt a few times in the past and would rather stay with known storefronts....even if it costs me a few pennies more....

  • 2 months later...

I use a pair similar to that only Audiovox. They came with earbud/boom mics that fit in the helmet just fine. they have a VOX feature too with a CALL tone if needed. works fine, got 'em at a discount store.

Summertime the radio clips on pants, winter it goes into a jacket pocket. no complaints...

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

      Hey all!
I'm on a mission to buy my first UTV soundbar as a gift for my dad(a newbie on ATV). I'm aiming for something that offers great sound quality without breaking the bank – my budget is around $250. Right now, I'm considering options like ecoxgear, kemimoto, and boss.
Does anyone have experience with these brands or specific models that you'd recommend? Any advice or suggestions would be super appreciated!

Recently picked up a 1991 Lt230e for repair. Compression is a little low Id say, around 80psi, I also have spark but the spark is odd . When cranking the spark is a constant arc. I’ve got it to sputter but never fully turn on. I believe the spark is my issue, being constant and not detonating at the right time. I’m not sure whether this issue is an electrical fault like some missing ground, a faulty cdi, or a timing issue. Any ideas where I should start?

I added more fresh gas it sat one day now, it's acting up again. Before cleaning out carburetor it wouldn't idle good and had gas leaks from carburetor. Now it idles pretty good but, if I increase throttle speed at a certain amount it starts missing bad. I'm going to try and post a short video. Just about ready to give up on this thing.😒  you can see reflection perking in video.
