I'm in the market for some new heavy duty straps for trailering my atv.  Whats everyone using to tie down their atv while trailering?  3/4" , 1" , 1 1/2", 2" straps? 

I had a couple of cheap 3/4" straps break on me , all i had at the time, I felt pretty lucky pulling into the gas station with the quad still on the trailer.

I use one inch straps, but check the rating on them, the material is much thicker then the cheapo ones. Auto part stores usually have good ones.

Last month I bought these at home depot for $20, they work well. Needed a new set.

I ended up ordering a couple from fleebay 2" wide , they look pretty thick. The ones around here were thin. I'll use em for boat tie down too.

I have several 1" & 2" tie down ratchet straps, but I recently picked up a set of 1-1/2" 5900 lbs.rating with the double J-hooks. A real nice set for quad tie down.

Use quality ratchet straps. Avoid the push release gripper types.

For me redundancy is important. Some areas we haul into have rough roads. I use a minimum of 4 straps to secure a wheeler on a trailer. Never broke a strap but have had hooks pop off. When able, I'll bypass the hooks and run a strap through a D-ring and the wheeler attach point.

Actually, I prefer rope. The Navy taught me how to lash things down very securely with rope. However it takes time and my wife and kids won't be bothered to learn it.

I use 1" but the load info is important as anything. I have a hook welded on my trailer and my winch secures the front end to that and then I strap the back with straps I bought at Menard's 500# work load each. Love my idea for front with the winch. It ain't never coming lose from that!

I use 1" or better and I always tie it down to 4 points. I was told to make sure you ratchet it down tight enough to get an inch or two compression on your Quad or Bikes springs. This will help keep a hook from falling off a d-ring.

EDIT: I made a boo boo on the weight rating, noticed they are rated at 590 Kg (1300 lbs) :(

I like it... no need to compress your suspension but holds the atv very securely and doesn't bounce slack into it.

 

I bought some of these they indeed do a bad ass job of holding quad down. Worth the price and peace of mind on my trailer during travel times!

I use 2 2" straps on opposite corners if just going around town, no long distance hauls or highway. If I'm going long distance then I'll use 4 2" straps and make sure it's centered on trailer correctly. If not you will know it when you get on the highway. If you do notice it swaying back and forth, stop and make it right. I have seen people think it will be ok I'm not going far. And the trailer ends up flipping. Just a reminder safety first.

I use a couple Erickson 2" retractable ratcheting straps, plenty strong and easy to use

      So my Yamaha grizzly 700 wasn't going into reverse for some reason but Jon and George figured it out on what to do to fix that problem for me. Jon Talks about how he was able to fix that problem my Yamaha Grizzly was having with the reverse.
      On a side note we are so close to 1k subs! hell ya!

      New user and first time quad owner. I recently got a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 and am really excited to start working on it! I work in IT for a living and am an experienced mechanic, so at least I am not starting at 0 haha.  Looking forward to hanging out and getting to know everybody!

      Bought a 2019 king quad 500 AXi few weeks ago.  What are peoples feelings on the break in time and fees a dealer charges.  Not sure if i should do the break in service myself. Thanks

      '11 Grizz 700 here.  Since I've got some warm weather these next couple days I've decided to start the bike after about a year of just sitting.  Took out the plug and sprayed a good amount of fogging oil on top of the piston to help lubricate things.  After about a minute of letting it soak I stuck my air line tubing in to suck out the excess, but it seems like I didn't get nearly as much in return.  Repositioned the tube enough so that everything that was gonna come out pretty much did.  I'll probably shoot some compressed air down the plug hole before doing the start just to make sure it's all out, as well as cranking it for a second before putting the plug back in.   How long would it take for a bit of standing fogging oil to seep past the piston rings, and where would it go?  I guess into the engine oil?  The oil was fairly new the last time it was started but I'm sure it could stand to be changed after sitting for so long.  If much of this fogging oil got into the engine oil should I do the change before the startup?
