I have used the ones from Harbor Freight for years on my mowers and they do a perfect job for $9.99 before any coupons...

I am a big fan of the battery tender brand, the are reasonably priced, seem to be resistant to weather, and last forever. I have the smaller ones for my ATV's and lager units for the truck, and marine battery's.  I've had some cheaper ones but the magic smoke leaks out and they never work again.

Viking 63350 4 Amp Fully Automatic Microprocessor Controlled Battery Charger/Maintainer

These are a little pricey but I like what I have read about charging AGM batteries. This one has the adapters so I can screw on terminals of ATV and leave on and plug in w/o taking seat off every time to maintain charge. Look for the coupon for 25 % off it will help.

I purchased this one and it seems to work better then what I had for maintaining the battery on the Jumping Jack trailer. I also found that this charger will work off the inverter that is built into my Tahoe. This gives me a means to charge the battery on the trailer if I run it down. My old charger would not work off the inverter.

I have a cable hooked permanently to the battery terminals and ran out the back of the bike to a trickle charge plugin- so when I'm done for the weekend I can just plug it right into the wall. Is this a pretty common thing? Is it safe to do this? I ask because I recently found my battery emptied of fluid and a nice puddle of acid on the shop floor. -_- I think it was an old battery, but I don't want to break another one.

Some of the maintainers come with that connector so you have a quick way to attach the charger. No harm in attaching it. The only way it could have damaged the battery is if it overcharged it for a long time. (as in the charger is defective) you can check that by measuring the voltage on the battery with the charger attached. It should not exceed 14.5 volts.

For a charger to "boil" out your battery, you would see over 17 volts.

Sounds like I need to get one of these.  If I don't start my Yamaha every week or so it will go dead...

I would check the battery to make sure it is good, should last longer then a week without running it. You could also have a parasitic draw on the battery.

Hey everyone, hoping to get some help here... my kids 03 KTF 50 Quad has always ran great... they were riding it a couple of hours a few days ago and it died a couple of times (not normal) but started right back up. A few days later my 5 year old wanted to take it for a spin so I started it (2 pulls) and he took off.. he made it a couple hundred yards and it died and we havnt been able to start it since. I have new gas, good spark and 120 psi compression.. it will not start with starter fluid in the intake or even in the cylinder.. the fuel bowl has fuel at the carb... what am I missing? It’s driving me crazy!!

So I got this '96 Jeep Cherokee XJ that cranks but doesn't start.  It's got around 180k on her but I keep everything in good shape.  Batt seemed strong.

I used to drive it everyday but this past year I've driven it only about twice a week.  It's been just slightly slower to start in the last couple of months, but just barely slower.  Was guessing it had something to do with aging plugs or something.

Drove it yesterday and everything was normal like always, sat overnight and today it cranked but didn't catch.

Any ideas on where to start?

Hi all new to the forum I have a Yamaha Moto 4 champ (100cc?) (YFM100) so I've been trying to get this thing to start for awhile honestly I'm running out of ideas so I'll start with the things Ive replaced and done first it was not trying at all and then I put a brand new battery then the terminals broke so I bought some nice copper ones fixed that up so now battery is got good voltage and all that I have checked all the plugs cleaned everything off so anyway it still wasn't trying but I couldn't get the crank case off and I didn't think using fire was a good idea lol so I busted the crank case off on the left side(if you are sitting on it) wierdly enough the flywheel started spinning I thought it was odd but went with it then I replaced the spark plug still wasn't getting spark so I replaced the ignition coil then it was getting spark next the carburetor was really gross I cleaned it out still wasn't working so I in turn decided just to replace it with a new one so I did (PS I never figured out how the fuel lines hook up if someone wants to help with that to lol) also for good measure put a new air filter so then I pressing the button Everytime I replace something and nothing so then I think what if it's the stator so I have no idea what a good or bad stator looks like but me being to rough I broke the wires on the thing but still no changes the fly wheel spins gets compression (I think) getting spark from spark plug idk other tidbits that might be useful I don't have a clutch line so idk if that has something to do with it I do have the break zip tied in to bypass the safety feature also the throttle cable is in fact broken and I'm working on buying a new petcock for my gas tank because my current one is broke I have very limited money this is supposed to be a project before I go to school for welding and automotive tech so I don't have any money to get a mechanic lol but I'm pretty confident in my ability to do anything u suggest any suggestions are welcome I'll edit and submit pics

Got a 04 Sportsman 500 that wasnt running- owner said it needed a stater and a new battery.  It ran rough (been sitting out in the weather for a while).  A friend and I started by adding a new battery and it would start barely with the choke and his hand over the air-filter.  I decided to install the new battery in the holder on the side.  we had it on the rack because the old on was still in the bike.  I tried to be nifty by turning the battery to put the terminals in an easier spot to get to, but forgot to reverse the cables too.  In a sentence, I reversed the positive and negative on the battery like a dummy.  When we discovered my mistake and corrected it, we turned on the bike, but the display did not light up and the key did not turn on the starter.  jumping the solenoid worked the starter, so we thought the solenoid just burned up when I reversed the pos and neg...  new solenoid and no difference.  what have I burned up?  Also, the shifter does not seem to do anything in the trans.  it slides back and forth like its stripped in the trans.  any help would be appreciated!!
I think the biggest issue right now is the electrical.

The battery box on my machine kind of fell apart and I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what they did to rebuild the box.
