Quad road instability

Hi all.  

New to the world of quads. Recently got a Basham 200cc.  

I am expecting a problem with road stability. When I get up to anything above 30mph on any road the bike will randomly pull either, into the left or right and I have to constantly fight to keep the thing straight. It’s totally unpredictable and have had a couple of close calls. I have checked play in the steering, ball joints, wheels, tyre pressure etc. Can’t figure out what’s causing it. I’ve speculated that the road camber May have something to do with it but like I mentioned I’m new to the quad world and maybe this is normal but any advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated as at the moment I’m too nervous to take it out on the road.

When you say road are you referring to asphalt ? 

Quad stability on open roads like asphalt are not really in my opinion stable in any circumstance.  Nothing is high speed balanced like a car tire would be.  So in my experience bikes I’ve ridden on asphalt always have pulled one way or another.  

Your bike however may have a lighter front end which results in the front end coming up a bit when you accelerate. 

Try to swap the front tires and see if the condition reverses and pulls the other way. Is one tire worn more then the other ? 

Take a good look at the frame to see that it was never crashed and repaired like welding work done etc.   look at the shocks and see that there’s are compressing properly.

Things perform differently at higher speeds.

sounds like wheels bearings to me- both sides.  they are binding up causing a drag randomly on one side of the quad or the other.

you might also try a front end alignment, stringing the rear end square to the front end with 1/8" toe out for the LF and RF.

      Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

      Hello...first post.
      Have a problem I have not been able to figure out.  
      While back the fuel pump went out...replaced it.  I got maybe 30 minutes..maybe less before the new one went out.
      Replaced it again...same thing. Now I am sitting with two more new fuel pumps in reserve but do not want to experiment and blow out another until I have a clue of what could be wrong.
      Have checked electrical...seems to be fine but I am no expert. Also the fuse is just fine.

      Hi All...
      ok ive brought my son a Apache 100cc quad bike ans it seems to have a spark issue..
      When i got it i couldnt get a spark then i messed around with it and got a spark and got it running, then it just died after 30 mins, now no spark so i replaced spark plug, ignition coil, cdi, ignition switch, stator and regulator and got a spark again now its gone again? 
      Ive check the wiring to see if any loose connectors, cant start by electric start because the starter clutch is broken so can only kick start it and thats a pain as it sometimes slips ( needs new teeth on it)
      the kill switch us 2 wires that are just loose no switch anymore as it broken and the other wires i think are for the lights and the electric start lever which is now broke
      Im crap with electrics so not sure how to trace and test
      also my new stator has 6 wires instead of 5 so i am unsure how to wire it, see pictures of mine the correct one and the other off ebay which they say to re-wire
      any help with this guys?
