i wired to the winch feed that comes right from the battery. i went throuhg the switch to the light bar with AND without a relay. both time i get code C1326 on the dash and loose my EPS. what am i doing wrong? should i be feeding the bar and switching to ground? i just installed a new battery the dealer said will fix it and same problem C1326. $120 wasted again at the dealer. why can't i talk with the mechanics at these places? sales people know little about the new machines and just smile at my wallet.brand new machine by the way too.

Welcome to Quadcrazy. Just to clarify, you wired the light bar to what switch, existing light switch or a new independent light switch? 

Secondly did you ground the black wire from the light bar  to the battery or attached to the frame of the bike or is it connected to the wiring system?

Did the light come with a diagram? If so screen shot it and post it please. 

The only reason I’m thinking your getting an indicator light is it’s picking up an external draw on the system.  This code does not come up with the winch in use ?

nothing with barjust red+ black- . no codes with winch. baffling and frustrating since i soldered and shrink wrapped it all. i am tearing it all out right now.

I was going to say to go over it all again and bench test it before you wrap it up again. Maybe give it a direct feed from the battery with a fuse.

The wires on the switch are only interrupting the red wire without the really and with the relay your sending 12 volts to the relay to bring the relay in correct ?

yup i just benched it up on the wheeler straight to battery+ and - now no codes! do you think using the chassis bond had something to do with it?

Yes I do. I think the bike is picking up stray voltage. Most of the lights have a diode built into the lights.  It’s a check valve if you will for electrical. Allows the flow of electricity to go only one way.

yes! this is the first time in 50 years of playing with wires i had an issue like this. i'll blame the sensitive ECM. thanks for the help on my first four wheeler.

when i have a light bar, i've always just wired it into the low or high beam and let it go..  havnt had trouble out of them yet...

That would apply to the older bikes.  The newer bikes are much more intricately designed with regard to electrical safety. So adding anything to the wiring adds an amperage draw to the system which is outside its normal draw and will throw a code out onto the dash. It will also lock out the ecm.   This way no wires burn up.

      I just bought my first Quad, a 2014 Sportsman 400 HO and want to replace the battery. It's not dead, but the voltage seems low and I'm not sure how old the battery is. What does everybody recommend for a replacement battery? Is there a difference that I should know about? I see Gel batteries, Regular Acid sealed batteries and a lot of different prices. Any help would be appreciated.

      I haa problem with the controller on a Harbor Freight winch.  The control box went out a while back. It has a manual switch on the handle-bar and a plug in for a remote that I never purchased. I replaced the solenoids and it worked a couple of times and is dead again.  
      Is there a universal replacement that anyone has used and would use again?  Remote control or manual /remote combo, no preference.

      New user and first time quad owner. I recently got a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 and am really excited to start working on it! I work in IT for a living and am an experienced mechanic, so at least I am not starting at 0 haha.  Looking forward to hanging out and getting to know everybody!
