110 ATV runs at low RPM

Recommended Posts

I have a 110 ATV which started fine yesterday. Today I go to start it and it only starts with the throttle wide open and then runs at low RPM, Unit is getting spark. Would apprecate any help I could get. Unit is a Chinese ATV.

I would double check that the choke is working properly.

Then I would assume that the carburetor is loosing its fuel.  Where it’s going is the question.

You could also have a crack in the rubber boot connecting the carburetor to the engine.

No rev limiter except the screw on the throttle. I have painted a mark where it's supposed to be and it 's still at that mark. This all has me wondering if weak spark could cause this issue.

I’ve had one of these bikes. Aside from the obvious things I pointed out in my previous post one thing I had to constantly do was change the plug.  Or at least pull it and clean it. You jogged my memory on this.

Try this. Go buy two spark plugs.  Run the bike as it is and the next day see what happens when you go to start it.  If it does not start right up swap the plug for a new one and see if it starts up.

Next day right out of the gate put a new plug in again and see if it starts right up.  If so the plug is getting fouled a bit lessening the spark.  Why ??? Could only be a few reasons....

These engines are not really well built and oil gets into the head though valve seals or rings etc.  Mine always blew a little blue smoke out of the exhaust. I was convinced oil was getting into the head.  Also I leaned out the carburetor a little and it helped but not too much where the engine ran like crap.

Maybe you can start there and see if the problem gets a little better with adjusting the fuel air screw first.

Ok so just picked up an 02 ds 650 and the guy said he couldn't get it to start. He had a shop put new shims in it and I had them checked and they were ok now things I've done is new plugs even though guy had just put new plugs in it.. got new carb 42mm just like the one that was on it.. bought new intake manifold because the one that was on it someone got way to tweaked out and ported the shit out of it excuse my language but yeah so installed new intake manifold and it just won't start like its not getting enough fuel.  Timing seems to be right it does fire every now and again but just barely.. did a compression test today and it was at 90psi.. i know thats low but don't know where I'm losing compression.. valves we at .06 and .07 when checked im lost ive tried everything I know and can't figure it out

Hello I am new to this site and I havea problem. I have a 1987 big bear 4x4 that will not spark. I tested pick up coil per repair manual and I tested my new coil both ok. It puts out 9 volts at the coil but It is reversed polarity. So when I hook my meter up to it she shows -9 volts while cranking. When I put a test light  on it it flashes. Being an electric system this should tell me something but I don't know what its telling me. I have yet to meet one i could not fix but this old girl has me stumped. Any help would be awesome. Thanks to all.

Hey guys I'm new here. I have a 88 warrior that has intermittent spark. When I got the bike the guy said it needed a stator.  So I tested the stator and the Source coil has .310,  Trigger coil has .363 an .367,  Alternator side has .05 to .06 on the three. Which all seem in range. I did find that the ignition coil was bad and replaced it. After I  put the new coil on i got spark but only now and then. The bike won't spark while I'm holding the start button,  but as soon as I let off it will spark sometimes. I ended up unplugging the voltage regulator and it will spark every time I let off the start button, but still will not spark while I'm  holding it. What could this be?

I bought this four-wheeler used for my son's birthday last week. It wasn't running when I got it but after a new battery and some tinkering it has been running for 5 days probably 8-10 hours of run time.

Today after 1 hour  My son wanted to wash it, I showed him how to be careful not getting water near the engine. We were careful but after we washed it and let it dry the motor starts but the transmission slips and won't really go forward.  Even if I pick the back of the four wheeler up the wheels only go forward a tiny bit. It's as if something is slipping inside.   But it worked fine right before the wash.

Not sure what brand. I was told it was 90 cc's the VIN is attached.  Is it 90 or 110ccs?
No air filter came with it. Using a some old stockings until I figure out what air filter to order.
My son is so bummed so I want to get it back up to speed but also teach him how to work on it.

Found some interesting news online when I googled Yamaha yesterday. Not sure when this went down, but Yamaha bought a percentage of Linhai (a Chinese manufacturing company) and are providing technology for Scooters, and more importantly for this forum, ATV's.

Seeing as how not everyone can AFFORD the crazy prices that have skyrocketed over the past 15 years. Yamaha and Linhai are trying to produce a more affordable model by manufacturing out of CHINA! I found a pretty substantial savings at RidersWholesale.com over what they want you to pay at the local Yamaha Dealer.
Just spreading the word. Let me know what you think about this. You can check out the Technical Specs Here
