2002 Kawasaki Prairie 400 4x4 Vibration

Recommended Posts

hi everyone. recently iam get a good vibration that comes and goes while iam riding my praire 4x4. iam afraid something is going to detonate. vibration is felt in the steering and then you will here a noise and this comes and goes. its very noticeable when iam on a blacktop surface. iam worried. i cant get any slop in the drive joints i can grab onto. so any input would be appreciated. i have a manual downloaded and i,ve went through it pretty good. my thought is its from the output shaft to the front drive. let me know if anyone has experianced this.

It sounds like it’s happening when you hit a certain speed? Especially if it’s heard on a blacktop surface.  My guess is that one of the drive shafts has a slight bend in it where you wouldn't feel it until a certain rpm. You may not be able to see that bend.  I would inspect all the drive shafts for any marks that may be there. Something along the lines of you hitting a rock or tree trunk while you were riding ?

I would also get the front wheels off the ground and spin the tires to see if there’s a bend in the rims and wiggle them as well to check the hubs.  Do this for the front and rear.

its the u joint on the out put of the transmission to the front drive. i have been trying to get it off several hours today to no avail iam dam close to cutting it in half. the shaft is damaged but savable and the other half of the joint coming from the trans will need to be replaced. it was ready to explode the u joint is broke. i cannot find the parts for it yet or a easier way of removing it then the manual says. doing something wrong i guess. any help would be appreciated. its the shaft in the middle picture of the attachment.

thanks

Just now rolling over 100k miles. Been feeling some steering weirdness so I get one front wheel up in the air and push at 3 and 9 and sure enough there's some wobble. Pushing at 12 and 6 gives no play at all.
Although I'll probably be replacing the worn part myself I need some help diagnosing what all might need to be replaced. And since I need an alignment anyway I've made a deal w/ my local Goodyear tire shop to do a pre alignment inspection and identify my bad part(s) so I can replace them before they do the job.
When I drop the car off what specific parts should I ask them to look at? I'm sure tie rod ends but what other kind of worn parts could be causing movement on the 3-9 push test?

      Check this out:
I have been working on these and trying to get the word out on the forums.
I am now at the point to be able to start doing struts for others. If you haven't kept up with my progress, I have developed adding external reservoirs. It would be an approximate $(contact me for current pricing as some things have gotten cheaper and some have not) cost for both struts which includes adding bungs and all parts, including a lower magnetic drain plug. It would be a complete assembly ready to install with minor tweaking once on the atv (such as line routing) but nothing significant

       .

Send me an email if you have particular things you want done or suggestions based on problems you are encountering with the oem set up. I can help you decide which route to go.

Here in the following pic of my manual, is a list of OEM part number struts I have developed this program for. Basically, it will encompass all SRA's with a front strut like the one in the picture, even the ones with a slightly diferrent lower spring perch.

If you are interested in an affordable and better front suspension on your utility SRA, please email me at: [email protected] to ensure I get your correspondence, since my inbox on the forum periodically fills up.

It appears that the Service Manual thread at top of forum is dead as all the links no longer work.  I'm actually looking for service manual for a 2000 KVF300 Prairie that I just picked up.  Does anybody have link to one that they can share, or know where I can find one?  Thanks in advance for any help.
