1997 Kawasaki Bayou 300 assembly of clutch cover

Recommended Posts

The clutch cover goes on and fits, but the little L chapped arm that has gear slots is concerning me.  It appears it goes to wear the clutch adjust bolts are on the cover.

Is there a specific way to tell how it mounts on the gears in relationship with the basket?

I don't want to deal it up unless it's right

Hopefully you got this back together. Here's a pretty good video on Kawasaki Bayou 300 Engine Centrifugal Clutch, Basket & Friction Plate Removal

My byou finally got running after I rebuilt the carb. I took it for a trail ride, and finished by riding her pretty hard up a dirt hill. At the peak of the hill it dropped out of gear, and had to be pushed home. It will still start, and idle. When I apply throttle it revs really high, and no matter what gear it is put into, it will rev high and take a few moments after i release the throttle to wine down.

I have pulled the clutches out, and it does appear the centrifugal clutch is worn. I took the dremel to it, and tried to get some relief lines back in there.

Before I reassemble and test, does anyone know if this is even a clutch issue? or possibly transmission/case related.
also can I make a gasket out of cardboard and Indian head just to test after  cutting grooves in centrifugal clutch?

After looking at the wire diagram I saw the blue w/black stripe wire is coming from the neutral and reverse lights looking for ground thru the neutral and reverse switches. If it finds ground, the lights come on. The same wire also comes from the neutral relay looking for ground at the same neutral and reverse switches. So it was easy to trick the relay into thinking the engine is in neutral all the time without having the light on all the time. Just cut the blue w/black wire at the relay and ground it. Easy
      Sorry the pics aren't better

Now it starts in any gear and indicator lights work as they should.

Anyone ever try these? $500 for a OEM clutch seems high, But $120 seems a little cheap to me. Has anyone tried one with good luck?

Hi guys New to the forum.  i ended up here google searching for info on a bayou 300 i have here  which has a nice squeek to it. looks very much like its not getting oil fed to the head.
it was one of 2 bayous i got hold of to add to a third one i already had here.  it looks like the previous owner had diesel in the sump instead of oil.  its had fresh oil /filter in it but develops a squeek once it warms up. ive managed to work out the oil feed to the head is not getting anything so if anyone has  a circuit diagram not just the parts manifest that would help out as im still looking for a service manual to download.

      Cheers

Bayou 300 has an occasional missfire. I can pull the plug and it’ll spark every once and a while. I’ve read the service manual but don’t understand the testing of the excited. Here is the wire I have coming from the stator area. Also primary winding resistance is high. Thanks guys!

Also it a 2000 year model
