1998 Arctic Cat 300 won't run right after warmed up

Recommended Posts

1998 Arctic Cat 300 4x4 Red

This quad formerly ran fine but started to run poorly as it wouldn't idle or rev easily.  The current problem is as specified below.

Starts and idles fine when cold.  Will rev to mid range when cold.  As it warms up it will not rev and idles poorly as it gets warmer.  I thought might be a problem with the ignition coil so I replaced it with a new one, no improvement.  It doesn't backfire or stutter.  It just falls on its face when the throttle opened.  Also no smoke out exhaust.

I changed the carb to a new Mikuni VM32 which is a common swap. Fuel tank was cleaned, a new shutoff valve, new fuel filter, new fuel line installed.  Air filter, ignition coil are new.  CDI was recently replaced with an aftermarket unit.

I verified fuel is flowing from tank to carb.  Fuel tank vent is not clogged.

Still no improvement.

Possible valve adjustment problem?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Just discovered the engine crankcase is full of gas. Young one never told me the fuel tank shut off valve was stuck in the open position.  Tank was empty when I changed the shutoff valve and fuel line.

Drained gas from crankcase and gearbox. Cleaned oil pump screen, blew out oil cooler lines, changed oil filter.  Runs great now.  It didn't like 2 gallons of gas added to oil I guess.

I am not sure what is wrong with my King Quad. I had a new carburetor put in 6 months ago, just replaced the fuel pump and added an in-line fuel filter in. I have been trying to fix this quad for a while now and do not know what is wrong with it. It idles fine and runs great as soon as it is fired up, you can Rev it and stay in first gear with 100% power. As soon as I drive 10 feet it looses all power, I mean it is sputtering and doesn't move at all, but when I let off the gas after it sputters it idles fine. I will attach a video of what it is doing.

      Hey,
I purchased a 1994 Kawasaki Bayou 400 4x4 which was running fine when I had all of the plastics off and now that I have put all the plastics back on the machine I am getting some strange symptoms. With the ignition on (neutral light on) and  having the kill switch in the RUN position now have no crank, no spark. But when I put the kill switch in the STOP (or off) position the electric motor crank, but still I am getting no spark. Is it normal for the ATV electric motor to work in the off position and not in the RUN position? It wasn't doing this before. I have replaced the spark plug and the ignition coil so far.  I am wondering if something is getting shorted after I put the plastics back on? Any ideas? If it is a short any ideas how can I track it down?
      Thanks!

1700 miles on the machine, all trail riding.   Second ride of the day and I get an overhead light, shut it down, let fan run, fan shuts off, light still on, ride back to camp, clean radiator, let machine cool for a couple hours.  Start up, head over to the campgrounds, ride for 5 minutes or less, overheat light comes back on and the machine blows the ignition fuse.  Tow it back, replace fuse, turn on key, fuse blows immediately.  I've ran all the wires, no mouse chews or rubbing, etc.     Does the KingQuad have a thermal protection system that would explain this?

I have a Polaris Magnum that is having issues. After returning to the farm after being away from knee surgery, I found my Magnum unwilling to start. I replaced the spark plug, no luck starting. Moved on to the ignition coil thinking that maybe that was an issue since it looked in rough shape. The 4 wheeler was out of gas so my thought was clogged fuel pump and/or carb gunked up. Both are clean so that isn't the problem. Now I am getting absolutely no spark when I try to start it. What else could be possible issues? CDI module, stator or solenoid issue? I really need this thing running, I use it to carry feed out to my birds so I don't have to carry feed.
      Anyone have any ideas?

I have a 2007 700 EFI that I purchased new. It broke down 9.5 miles out on the trail the day I bought it and has been in the shop in two states almost ever since. All warrenties are now expired and I have a quad that still does not run. I have only managed to put 304 miles on it in 3 years. I am a auto mechanic and have technical back ground. I maintain, repair, and build all my other quads and bikes as well. This one has been under warranty and the princable of it has kept me taking it back to the dealers. Now it's up to me to repair it.
To start out, it is flashing codes 41, 42, and 43. Can anyone give me code descriptions? Thank you.
