As the owner of a pretty tricked out 2008 Kawasaki Teryx, I am very familiar with the Teryx. My Teryx did not stay stock long, but I recently spent three days in a bone stock 2008 Teryx on a ride to the Grand Canyon.
The 2008 Teryx is a great machine, but my biggest complaint was that it came out with carbs instead of fuel injection. In less that a year since the first Teryxs hit dealer floors, Kawasaki dealers are already selling 2009 Teryxs with EFI. The New digital fuel inject on the Teryx is really nice. The engine starts right up and idles smoothly. On acceleration, the 2009 Teryx felt more crisp and seemed to get up to top speed a little quicker. While it is not a night and day difference, I definitely preferred everything about the EFI on the 2009 over the carburetors on the 2008.
Next up on the list of what's new is a fuel gauge. I know it doesn't seem like something to get that excited about, but I do some long distance rides, and the fuel level display takes the mystery out of "I wonder how much fuel I have left?"
The Teryx Sport has upgraded aluminum wheels which not only look much better, but are also 2.2 lbs. lighter than the standard steel wheels. Losing unsprung weight not only requires less energy to get the tires spinning, but also helps the suspension work better. And as a little bonus, the aluminum wheels are actually strong that their steel counterpart.
Suspension is on the 2009 Teryx Sport has a few upgrades as well. The gas-charged Kayaba shocks have reservoirs all the way around to help reduce fade in rough terrain. The preload adjustment is step-less, and they have fully adjustable rebound and compression (high and low speed) damping. Although we did not have any opportunities to jump the new Teryx Sport, we did get into some nasty whoops and hard g-outs.
I felt the Teryx Sport suspension handled the terrain better than a standard Teryx suspension. The ride through the light chop was a bit smoother than a standard Teryx and when we got into the whoops I felt a little more comfortable as well. Although I was able to bottom out the front shocks on a few hard g-outs, a standard shock would have gone to the stops more often and with more force. Overall, even though I did not spend any time trying to fine tune the adjustments on the new Sport shocks, I think they are a worthy improvement over standard shocks.
The Lime Green plastic on the Teryx Sport is a great color. Much more sharp than the drab green found on the 2008 Teryx. And with all the UTVs out in the dunes in Glamis, there is no doubt that you are in a Kawasaki when you are driving it.

I'm in southeast Idaho. Fall Creek area near Swan Valley is our go-to. Kelly Canyon area has some decent trails. I've heard there is good riding around Mackay and the Lemhis/Lost River range area but we've never ventured that far. Where do you ride around Idaho Falls?

Hello! I am new here and I need some help from the experts. My 9 year old son was given an adult sized 4 wheeler for Christmas. He has never ride one and has never taken a training course. Of course, I just found out about this but was never consulted about him getting this, either.
Anyways, he was able to ride it this morning and has never had any safety training and honestly, I am petrified he is going to get hurt. It will happen, it's just when.
I am in the state of Indiana and the law states you must be 14 years old to operate unless there is direct supervision of an 18 year old or other. What exactly does "direct supervision " mean? Is rhis within site of the person riding or is it someone that is ON the ATV?
Also if there are ANY SUGGESTIONS you guys can give me regarding this it would be helpful.
My son is only 9 and a very immature 9 year old at that. I feel he has no business being on this without proper training but apparently that isn't as important to some people.
Also, if there is anyone in the state of Indiana on here that can tell me the rules that would be awesome.
*in addition* the 4 wheeler is for an adult. My son is only 4 foot 9 and 65 pounda. He's tiny. I am afraid he is certainly nowhere close to having the weight to control this machine.

Prescott National Forest to Hold Recreation Strategy Community Workshops
Dear BRC members, supporters and action alert subscribers,
Sanford Cohen, from the Prescott Open Trails Association (POTA), just sent us a heads up about some "Recreation Strategy Community Workshops" Co-Sponsored by the Prescott National Forest and the Community Forest Stewardship Forum in partnership with: City of Prescott, Town of Prescott Valley, Town of Chino Valley and Yavapai County.
Recreational users are invited to share interests, concerns and ideas for recreational projects and "help create a Sustainable Recreation future" for the region.
Sanford suspects the "Sustainable Recreation" initiative will result in closing the remaining roads and trails on the Prescott National Forest. (Many hundreds of miles of roads and trails have been closed over the decades and few motorized trails remain.)
If you live in or near Prescott, please read Sanford's info below and take action. Also, please pass this information on to your friends and family, and please ask them take action as well.

Read this attachment and if YOU DON'T SHOW UP to at least one of these meetings, you will have only yourself to blame for the loss of our trails.* The anti-motorized group is trying to get empowered and a small turnout from us will insure our defeat. * This comes from the "save the Verde" people.* They are launching an all out assault on motorized trails.* Our Forest Supervisor is out of town on assignment and the local head of the Wilderness Coalition is in charge of OUR trails program. * We MUST ALL SHOW UP and we MUST BE PREPARED with the following talking points: * 1)* The Prescott is managed as a multiple use forest.* Motorized Trails and Roads are also open to hikers, bicyclists and equestrians.* The miles of roads and trails are being mis-represented as for MOTORIZED ONLY. * 2)* The average Motorized Hiker covers much longer distances on average, so in terms of time spent on the trail, they need to have longer distances to keep even with the non-motorized trail user. * 3)* With food, fuel and lodging and connections between communities, motorized hikers contribute more to the financial picture of Cities and Towns and provide more monetary help to Prescott National Forest for all types of trail construction and maintenance than any other activity. * 4)* Wilderness areas containing trails where motorized vehicles are off-limits number in the millions of acres.* The areas where hikers on foot are not allowed on the trail forest-wide is ZERO.* We do not need to add more wilderness. * 5)* Off highway vehicle use has grown 357% since 1996.* You do not respond to a greater demand for an activity by providing less of it. * When you do go to one of the sessions, make sure you identify yourself as a member of Prescott Open Trails Association.* There is strength in numbers, but only if you show up and be heard. * Thanks! * Sanford Cohen POTA
