1999 Polaris Magnum 500 starter solenoid connection

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I just bought a new starter solenoid (part # 4011335) for my Magnum 500 and it is a little different from the old one. It has two posts, a top one and a bottom one. I just need to know which one gets the red wires and which one gets black, or does it matter? Thanks for any input! -JerryC

Welcome to QUADCRAZY, I'm assuming the old one has two posts also, right? Are you sure you got the correct solenoid?

According to the diagram below, both terminals are on one side, #15 and #23... 1999 Polaris MAGNUM 500 (A99CD50AA) OEM Parts, 1999 Polaris MAGNUM 500 (A99CD50AA) OEM ATV Parts - BikeBandit.com

Yes, that's the old one. The dealer said that the part had been changed to the new solenoid. The new one is similar to the old one. You're right that they're both on the same 'side' but one is higher than the other one. That's what I meant by 'top'. I can't remember how the wires, red/black, were connected on the old one. But that schematic shows 15=red, so I'll connect red to the top/upper post and give it a try. Thanks, I had seen that schematic before but just didn't pay that much attention to it. I'll let you know how it turns out! Thanks! -JerryC

I just went and took a better look at it. Thick red wire coming from the starter to the solenoid (but not sure to which post). Thick red wire going from the other solenoid post to the red battery terminal. Thick black wire going from the battery neg terminal back to the starter.

I actually just tried it both ways (red from starter to top post, red to battery from the bottom post and then the opposite) but it didn't start the ATV. So I think I have further issues, but I will need to be confident I have it connected properly. It WILL pull start... Any ideas?

RESOLVED!

I started undoing any 'extra wires' and connected red from starter to bottom post of solenoid, then top post of solenoid to red/pos of battery. Then I jumpered it and it started! So I connected all the other wires and it is working like a champ! Thanks- JerryC

Good to hear you got it fixed. For future reference, a solenoid is just a magnetic switch that connnects two poles to complete a circuit, so it does not matter which wire is hooked to which pole of the solenoid. As long as it is connected to the battery on one side and to the starter on the other, the low current signal wire is hooked up properly and the solenoid body is properly grounded, it will work.

So need some recommended maintenance I should do with my 1998 Foreman 450ES.  I didn't get much info as to what had been done so what's the things I should perform to start me from square one?  I'm not a mechanical genius but can do the basics.  I did adjust the toe today so I'm not a nooby.

Hello all, I’m working on my sons 99 Yamaha Warrior 350. When I pulled the plastic cover off left side of engine, I can see oil leak at the seal. I pulled the bolt out and then the starter boss(I guess that’s what it’s called?) I can see that the boss doesn’t make contact with the seal. Is there a spacer of some type that slides on to the boss, to make contact with the seal? This seal is held in place with a plate with 3 screws in it. This boss slides into the bearing in the stator. I have been to parts websites and I don’t see what I’m needing. Maybe it’s just the wrong seal?

So I rode my 2018 Kodiak 450 through a bit of a puddle and got water in the ultramatic casing... drained the water but the quad still fails to reach top speed so I figured it's time to pull the sheaves and clean them out.
When I pulled the primary sheave off, this rubber piece fell out that I can't find anywhere on the parts diagram nor where it might have come from. Any ideas?
Note, it looks worn down on an angle, so wherever it came from it might have been jammed in the sheave and that could have been what was preventing me from reaching higher speeds.
      Any help is appreciated.

Trying to change front wheel bearings. I removed the cotter pin and castle nut. Hub won't budge. Is there an additional retaining clip? Seems to be one of those push on type that barbs on the thread of the spindle. How do I remove it?
