You may not be getting enough fuel. It may be time to remove that carb and give it a good cleaning. How is your choke working, is it fully operational? If you adjust you idle control screw, does it run better?

I agree, a machine that sits alot is going to be prone to carb problems. Most likely needs a good cleaning.

Haven't seen you in a while Mr. ATVmechanic, good to see you are still hangin around.

Do you have an owners manual, it should have the plug gap specs. How is your air cleaner? Have you moved to a higher or lower elevation since the last time you rode it? What does your spark plug look like now?

when mine did that I too thought fuel and even rebuilt carb. replace the spark plug and still popping, I decided to replace the spark plug boot and problem was solved. there is a resister in it that goes bad.

I am hoping one of you knowledgable people can answer this for me. I have a yfm200 moto 4 engine I want to put in an off road go kart. I would like to mount a sproket where the drive exits the case before the u joint so that I can get rid of drive shaft and make engine bay compact. To do this I would mount engine 90° to axle but would also need to tilt it forward 15° to account for the angle the drive exists rear of casing. Would that be ok? Would oil pump etc still work. Any advice greatly recieved.

      I own a 2002 Can-Am Quest 650.
It will start if you massage the throttle a bit and it will continue to run. BUT if you let go of the throttle and try to let it idle it will always die warm or cold.
It has Non-Oxy premium gas, a new gapped NGK plug, a new carb (as of today) and fresh fluids. After installing the new carb it runs exactly the same.

I only have a few things that I have observed since the new carb:
The choke still doesn't do anything. It has a good cable and it is hooked up. It on fully off. There is a cable in the top, front of the engine that splits into two connectors. The connected side is in the photo. The other side has the yellow banded section and is not connected. I do not see anything in range of this connector so I don't know if this is normal or not??? The original carb wasn't really dirty or clogged. I'll use it as a spare. I don't see this cable and connectors listed in the Can-Am shop manual. Looking for some help. I want to ride!
