if it backfires, it's getting too much air. check the intake boot from the carb to the motor for cracks ...

if you have some quick start, spray some around the boot, if it revs up, it's cracked ...

if not, adjust your fuel/air screw ...

did check boot and did spray around all areas of the carb head hook up

cleaned the crap out of carb cleaner than most new ones

been rebuilding carbs for many years

soaked it sprayed it and blew everything with air

major confused on this one

why I'm here asking questions

he should have never let it sit for 2 years with this new crappy gas :(

I looked into the carb while running seems to as you try to rev it up sems as though it's spitting compression back into the carb? as you try to open the throttle~~~

also no adjustment screws on the carb other than idle

a few got one running to the so called fuel pump

a few over flow tubes

miss the older ones 2 lines-- gas in-- over flow in case ya flip it

any clues on this he is selling it for $1300 but the guy wants it to run right

knowing him when it's running right he will keep it

he might try to out run my Honda 350 full time 4x4

on a flat out haul maybe-- in the woods he's toast :)

i'm not the best with carbs, best i can do is up a manual for your viewing pleasure.

cheriah, a member here, has a polaris and is great with carbs. she would be more than happy to answer any question you have if you message her here ...

thanks for your input and the manual will have to get to another puter to see it- no pdf on this one :( not sure at this point it's carb issues~~ if you see my point--might be fuel pump issues? line -vaccum- could be a firing problem

maybe even a blocked exhaust--mouse nest~ seen a lot of crazy stuff in my years

as have you- we are about the same age so it seems on the info on here

good typing at ya bro

maybe someone else has had these problems and will chime in

many thanks ~~~~

Hi, I'm new to ATV/UTV's and am looking for any advice that would help to repair my 2018 Ranger 500.  I got it from an insurance auction and have never owned one before.
It looks like it was sunk deep.  Found rocks and sand in the roof, milky oil in the air filter box, water in the fuse box, etc.
So far, I've cleaned the air box out, vacuumed most of the rocks and sand, checked the engine, trans and diff casings for cracks/leaks.
The battery would not charge while connected so I know there is some short somewhere...probably the wet fuse box.
I plan on drying out the fuse box and all connectors with a hairdryer tomorrow, check the fuses, remove/dry out the ECM and disassemble/clean the air intake.  Then install the battery and see if i can get it to key on and see what kind of lights I get.
Need to know what to expect with the engine/trans...

posted a while back - it was running at one point - I have all the plastic shroud off - it's down to frame and engine now
-fuel pump: when line from petcock is attached, no fuel comes out other side to carb; the line to the carb is open (can blow through it); I thought when I cranked engine that the pump would spit out fuel on other side but it does not; I removed fuel pump and opened it up - diaphragm looks good - but internal areas had lotsa calcification build up - I cleaned this out and dried it good - the clear plastic pieces (?diaphragms) aren't broken - the spring w/ steel ball on end moves freely; am putting it back on tomorrow; but can anyone answer about the pump? isn't it supposed to pump fuel through it... to other side... to carb? puzzling
-along with fuel pump: I replaced petcock 3 weeks ago (gas tank had rusty fuel in bottom - cleaned it out prior to new petcock); when I turn petcock arrow NOT to on or reserve, fuel comes out of line; when I turn it to on or reserve, fuel doesn't come out; puzzling
-I don't know what's on back of fuel pump - it's a valve that has a hose coming out of it - looks like it goes to engine/carb - I haven't traced this out yet - what is it?
-can squirt gas on air filter and engine will run for 2-3 seconds then stop - fuel in top of carb (under diaphragm) does same
-it likely needs carb rebuild - will get to this - but something isn't allowing fuel to get from fuel pump to carb
-I THINK it has a mikuni model x carb - diaphragm is ID 26mm  OD 68mm - hard to find inexpensive diaphragm, I guess because it's a model x
-last thing - I replaced solenoid due to old one clicking; I HAVE to be charging the battery or it won't start/turn over - battery just goes dead; but if charging, it'll turn over nicely; i'm guessing it's a bad battery
-any help appreciated - I've never owned an ATV before - inherited this beast from grandparent in-law

Hi there i was needing to ask a question. I may soon be getting a UTV of one sort or another and not sure what is good or better to avoid?  So far i hear great things about the Arctic Cat Prowler and Havoc, and many speak well of the Kawasaki Mule all but the 610?
So what are your thoughts and especially experiences?  What have you had and used in farm life and trail riding that has held up well or hasn't?

Recently I noticed gas leaking from under the gas tank on my 2005 250 2x4. As I looked closer it appears to be leaking from the shut off valve under the tank. It's the valve with the handle that can be turned to open, close or reserve. Can this part be replaced? Thank you.

I am looking for some help. I just bought a 2004 Can Am 400 quad that had sat for 2-3 years. I can start it if I spray some gas into the carb but it only runs a few seconds. I haven't been able to get it to continue. Any advice on what the problem might be and how I might follow it would be very much appreciated. It had about a quart of gas in the gas tank when I got it. I siphoned that out and put in new gas. This is my first quad so I'm quite new to this.

Ok i got a 1991 polaris trail boss 350 i bought from my neighbor and he didn't know what was wrong with it here the piston skirt broke off and dropped in the bottom end i ripped motor out and ripped it apart to get the pieces out and everything looks good so i put it back together it needed a key so i bought a new one well it didn't work so i bought one off a junk wheeler and it worked but wont shut it off i revs up so what could be causing this.
And my transmission dont have high range what made this happen?
