First time using this forum.  Owned a Kawasaki dirt bike once, had no issues.  But I picked up this 4 wheeler at an auction.  They stated it ran, but only needed a battery.  Well I do not believe that was all true.

Some pictures are attached.  Not sure why, but the whole air filter stuff was removed.  They had some small thing inserted as a make shift air filter.

I purchased a battery to try this all out.  Waiting to return it and get the proper size, as it was too big for the battery box.  But here is my issue I had while the battery was connected.

1 - The lights on the steering column did not come on.  Not sure if they work or not.

2 - The starter solenoid seems to be bad.  I have a new one on order.

3 - In the pick, there is another rusted part.  Not sure what that part is or what it is used for.

4 - What is the 12v rectifier?  square bodied part.

So when I hooked the battery up.  Pushing the start button did nothing.  Pulling the cord to try and pull start, it turned, but would never fire.  I have put in a new spark plug as well, it looked worn out.  With electric start, I crossed over the posts on the start solenoid, it turned over, but would never fire and start.

I have read a few other threads and it stated something about needed the neutral light on.  SOmething about a kill switch.

      Any help would be appreciated.

Hey I have a 97 bayou 300 2x4 (klf300b) that i bought for 1000 last June and sunk another 1000 into it already.  When i went to look at it, the seller had warmed it up before hand (he was riding it when I got there).  it ran good so i bought it and took it home that evening... next morning it wouldn't hardly start.  I discovered the carb was clogged, there was chunks of rust in the fuel valve, the choke lever was missing and other things.  I have since cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel valve and gas lines and cleaned out the gas tank and cap.
Enough background on it, the problem is this:  It floods if i push it past half throttle in 4th and 5th gear even going downhill and shifting correctly.  It also has to idle and warm up when you first start it which is really annoying now that its cold...  It also smokes blue smoke for about 15 seconds when started cold-  does not smoke at all once warm but the exhaust still smells like burnt metal.  A friend told me that it didn't have enough compression.  I also found out that the valves are a common cause for low compression on Kawasakis..  I have never adjusted valves before-  the most I've ever got into a engine was a head gasket on a riding mower so I'm new to this.  My goal is to get this bike running and starting cold like a top-  should i tear down and rebuild the top end?  What should i try first?  I tore the carb apart and rebuilt it and fiddled with the air screw and nothing changed.  I also ordered a compression test kit that should be coming in soon.

Ive also considered just selling it for like $500 and taking the hit-  Id rather not sink too much more into this machine..  lol

I decided to replace the rings and piston on this machine because it looked like the plug was being fouled by oil. When I removed the right side of engine to inspect the clutch pack, I found 2 small round pieces with tiny expansion rings in the bottom cover. It looks like "clutch pawls" according to the illustration, but Id like to be sure. I saw that there are 4 of these in the new gasket set.
      Can someone help me here?
      I thank you in advance
      Joe

"Belt" message appeared on console screen. Does that mean a loose belt and either needs tightening or replaced? I kept going and turn off ignition. Could not start again. Not even a grunt, new battery. Partner jumped and I was able to do all my errands and drive home. (Total 2 hours). Battery still dead. What am I looking at as to possible diagnosis and corrections?

i picked up a meerkat 50 and it gets great blue spark and fuel but not even so much as a spudder when turning over. so how do i check the woodruff key and set the timing. it has great compression so dont tell me to check for compression or fuel or spark cuz i got all that. so i figure it has to nbe out of time. please can someone walk me through this. I HAVE NO BOOK so please dont tell mew to look in my manual. what i need is a verbal walk through of the steps neccesary to check woodruff key and set timing propperly so i can get the bike to a running stage. please help.

      Hello ATVers,
I need help aligning the belt on my Polaris Sportsman CVT. I bought this bike used and noticed a little smoke coming out of CVT exhaust under heavy throttle (smelt like burnt rubber). The previous owner claimed he installed a new belt, but when I opened up cvt cover I noticed belt was out of alignment causing the edge of one side of belt to fray. A small chunk of the belt was missing in one area. I removed one of the washers from behind the secondary pulley to move belt back to alignment with primary pulley. The washer acts like a shim and removing it moved the secondary pulley back about 1/8" which is what it needed. I don't like moving the pulley so close to the back of the plastic cvt case but my alternative (per the service manual) is to loosen the motor mounts and move the motor slightly to change position of the primary pulley and then re-tighten the mounts. Please correct me if this info is wrong. I haven't done this step, but I will do so if someone with more CVT experience could chime in. My son and I went for a ride and he typically drives in HIGH range which I'm told is bad for slow trail riding or driving thru mud. Primarily what we drive on are slow forest trails and very muddy sections. Apparently the combination of him being in HIGH range and the belt already frayed caused it to break. So I ordered an EPI sever duty cvt belt and a clutch kit since this bike's cvt has never been serviced. I plan on installing bigger tires for mud, so I ordered a kit designed for this type of riding. Any advice on how to adjust belt tension and alignment would greatly be appreciated. I don't wanna blow another belt. Standard OEM belt is $70 and this severe duty belt is $100!! They are not cheap.
