This is the front birds nest I sorted out. Also attached is the before. Under the plastic was a complete mess but its almost sorted now. Tearing into it revealed a mess but its mechanically ok. Runs good, needs a bit more fuel at WOT. Here is the Kodiak. My oldest picked it up for $600 and it just needs front wheel bearings and the trans case leaks. Small things. Only 1300 original miles.

I think i am just going to order an OEM needle/nozzle combo along with a new valve throttle (#5) and a new pilot screw set/o-ring/washer . Hopefully that does the trick. You are right, the only rebuilt kits i could find were aftermarket. Yamaha is certainly proud of these parts, but I have already spent enough time screwing around with this thing. I'm ready to be done. I'll let you guys know how things work out. Thank you for leading me down the correct path. I'm going to order an OEM set and make sure it is correct. Thank you for the help!

Is that pic from 1991 when you first bought it?!! That looks brand new

Sounds like you may have a problem with the needle & nozzle alright. That would explain the over fueling and also why the adjustment screw doesn't do much. Can you compare the original parts to those replacements? Yamaha didn't offer carb rebuild kits, just individual parts I believe....they're expensive but usually worth it!

No problem brother we are here to help. Do some homework on the oem size jets for that carburetor and get an oem rebuild kit and have at it! You should see an immediate reaction in the engine performance when you adjust the mixture screw. If your not then there’s a problem. That o ring, steel waster and spring assembly has to go in right on that mixture screw. Study the carb diagram and make sure everything is correct. Any Questions ask away.

I don't mean being with my babies is time consuming just in case it soundedlike that,I meant scraping the plastic takes alot of time, just that one took all day,and it looke like this at first without the heat gun just scraped,I lo e riding them around and I can't wait for them to learn to ride their quads!!!! I have 6 quads and I'm the only one in the house that rides them....but yeah I'm gonna check out how much is for painting the plastics if not then I'll get new ones...I love the Red and Black, but the Blue/White and Gray or black go great as well.... So here’s one more thing I wanted to mention. With the recon that I have. The plastics were faded. I worked in a body shop for years when I was young. I was always the guy they trusted to water sand and buff out paint without burning the paint on the car. So I tried to water sand the plastics on the recon with 1500 grit water sand paper and did so. The color came right back to new but you seen the sand paper marks. I tried to buff it out like a car and it just does not work. The sand paper marks would not budge. I eventually went to a 2000 grit paper and compound and got it to look about 90% and left it there. The plastics color is like new but they look like a car with all the swirls you see in the sun.
