  1. Thanks for the advise. I'll see what our shop guys says first. Need to visit him anyway. He's got a salvage yard and I need some fender flares for the RZR. It's a mud slinger. He might have some junk plastics I can make some from.
  2. Took it out yesterday. Still sputters at 20mph. Think I need to change the TPS. I looked online and some people have made their own testers. I don't feel like going through that effort. I'll change the switch and take it to an independent shop guy in my town for testing. Got a good ride in at the Knik Glacier gravel bar even though it was slow. First time I was able to ride our "new" sportsman. I like it.
  3. Yeah zip tie might have worked. I usually carry a roll of safety wire in my tool box. But left that at camp. Was supposed to be an "easy" ride.
  4. I had tape and tools. Tight space. I could barely get a hand in there. I tied a slip knot on the rod first. With one hand slid it in over the inner rod and steering knuckle. Pulled it tight then tied it off to the outer rod. Pics were taken after I got it in my garage and pulled the wheel.
  5. Out riding last week. My son was riding my friend's Rincon. He was falling behind. I looked back at him and the left front tire was sideways. I thought, damn, I know what that is. The inner rod end ball had busted out of the socket housing. I was able to pop it back in then tied it up with pull start rope. Worked well enough to limp it back at slow speed.
  6. Definitely think you need something with gear drive versus belt drive. Yes those old suzuki's with low range and diff lock were beasts for their time but too light weight for your needs. I think the 2000's 400 Kingquads are manual transmission and some Honda brands mentioned by Jeremy above.
  7. Checked the connecter and wiring to the TPS. Seems good. This machine requires a special tester to check the component for proper operation and to adjust it if replaced. Our Sportsman would use the same tester so I thought to buy one. Quick search on ebay and the official Polaris tester is (OMFG) is $1000! Does anyone know of an inexpensive after market brand I can get or a work around to perform the test? It appears to have a power source and plugs in line with the wiring.
  8. A couple of things to add. Avoid deep puddles either full of water or alcohol
  9. It must be 17 characters. Could the first three be 4H5? I know the first three are the mfg code. Someone with an AC can confirm.
  10. Yes, throttle position sensor. Need to dive into that further this weekend
  11. Checked the ECU code. Points to a TPS wiring ground or short issue
  12. Had the problem earlier this month. Found the air intake filter (K&N) covered in mud and cleaned it. Took it out this weekend and it worked great until I went on a longer ride. After it warms up, it bogs down at about 20mph. Engine sputters. No change at full throttle. It runs fine at lower RPM. Once it cools off, I can run it at higher speed for a few minutes then it bogs down. Seems like there is an electronic component that overheats. Check engine display comes on when it happens. Did manage to complete our 34 mile ride though. Buddy suggested the throttle position sensor. Will dig into the manual later on.
  13. you're participating in the topic about a 570 EPS problem
  14. I see you are already on the EPS thread. That's all I'm aware of.
  15. Agree with Brian. Before you pull the top end apart, check the timing to be sure the chain hasn't jumped. If it has, might be a stretched chain or tensioner problem.
  16. Like Frank said, it will be much easier to turn the engine over from the starter pad with the spark plug removed. I don't belive push starting works on engines with centrifugal clutches.
  17. Use quality ratchet straps. Avoid the push release gripper types. For me redundancy is important. Some areas we haul into have rough roads. I use a minimum of 4 straps to secure a wheeler on a trailer. Never broke a strap but have had hooks pop off. When able, I'll bypass the hooks and run a strap through a D-ring and the wheeler attach point. Actually, I prefer rope. The Navy taught me how to lash things down very securely with rope. However it takes time and my wife and kids won't be bothered to learn it.
  18. Slowly re-tooling after living in Europe for two years. The 18ft black trailer can hold 4 mid-size wheelers. Currently this hauls the RZR and a new acquired Sportsman 500. Still have 2 pickup beds to fill.
  19. IE and Edge on my work laptop. Opera on my personal. I used Keyboard browser on my android BlackBerry but the developer stopped supporting. Now use Edge on the GooBerry
  20. That surprised me on a 2007. I'm new to Polaris. I looked at a 2012 model also and it was carbureted.
  21. Thanks guys, was supposed to take it camping this weekend but its been snowing here the last 3 days. Paid $3100 for which I think is a fair price for Alaska. Its the deluxe model which among other things has Active Descent Control versus the standard model. Haven't found anything wrong with it yet but now me and the boy have a chance to go through it this weekend and check all the servicing items. RZR needs a new CV boot also.
  22. Just picked up a little brother for RZR:
  23. Change the oil. There should be an adjustment screw that squeezes the clutch plates together. This reduces excessive gap between the plates caused by normal wear. I don't know where it is on your machine. Hopefully some one else will respond with that.
  24. You can get a rebuild kit for them. But first, jack up the front end and spin and turn the wheel by hand to check for any clunking in the joint to be sure that's your problem.
