  1. since its his first one you need to dial down the throttle. some have a screw built in right at the throttle. if not you can buy a kit. then you can lower the power by 1/2 or even more. once he gets used to power and learning to turn and stop you can dial power back up. its much better to get him to learn on a smaller atv though. learning how to crash and fall is an art. some people have it some do not. an atv weighs a ton compared to a kid and even an adult.

  2. you either have to much gas or to much air. it should start on choke with no throttle if spark is good. one test is to take out plug, try to start it and see if gas is puking out cylinder. then put in a bottle cap full of gas directly into the motor at the plus hole. add a new dry plus, put it on choke and start it. do not use throttle. it should start right up if spark is good. if not you may have a low spark or a low compression engine.
