my 2002 400ex just wont start but wants to
01 RAPPY 660 replied to 01 RAPPY 660's topic in Honda ATV Forum
the timing is correct. as far as the chain its very tight can that be a problem?? -
i just got a 2002 400ex and.................. when i try to start it, it tries to start and stops tries to start and stops tries to start and stops over and over, like it has the hiccups, but wont start and run. the carb is clean and it's getting gas to the engine, the spark plug is sparking a blue spark when i hold the plug to the frame. ive put a new timing chain and stock cam shaft in it, and set the timing, and it has a new piston. anybody know the problem?? :aargh::aargh::aargh: thanks

maybe a ground wire loose or in wrong spot?

check your basket for grooves if its smooth and the plates are not sloppy in the basket then basket is fine. ohyea a heads up incase u have to remove the clutch basket ..dont.. use a or mini prybar, screwdriver etc between the fingers of the basket or u could snap or bend one off!, while removing the nut in the center of the basket. As far as the clutch disks/plates id get a new full set. and id check to see if the prussure plate is not groved if it is replace it. retighten the bolts on the clutch in a star pattern so the prussure plate closes equally on the disks and wont casue wear spots on the disks. And remember to have some slack in the clutch cable so the prussure plate closes all of the way on the clutch disks and wont cause the clutch to slip. good luck and have fun with your wheeler.

i think a computer geek doctoerd that video up, but thats just my guess. -
yes u are right i was telling in general how to replace a clutch. as u know different quads require different toqrue specs for the bolts . and plate replacement etc.
-
drain oil, pull clutch cover off, remove the prussure plate, bolts, springs, and set them aside, remove the old clutch plates, install new plates, friction plate then a metal plate, friction plate then metal plate untill u have used them all, put the metal plates in rough side tords the engine. run your fangure down the metal clutch plate where the teeth are cut into it and u will fill it rough on one side of the plates. now put the prussure plate back on and use the new springs u got with your clutch kit and put them back on. if u did not get new ones use your old springs.now put the bolts back in snug, in a star pattern(do not over tighten the bolts, check your manual for the exact prussure rating) now then put the clutch cover back on and add new oil. adjust the clutch cable if needed, remember to let the new clutch plate set soak in oil for a day or so before u install it.
