  1. I don't think you will see oil flowing.   Its a slow flow plus the dark color.
Most of the oil tanks are a light plastic color so you can see the oil level.  If you have doubts the oil is not flowing you can mark the tank's oil level  with a marker and monitor it. If your sure its not working then yea you can pre mix and be done.

  2. It  could  be the starter clutch. Its common and happens.   Pull the starter out and bench test it with 12v and see how she spins.  If the gear ⚙️ spins then the starter is fine.    That would leave only the starter clutch of the gear on the starter clutch lost a few teeth.   Shine a flashlight inside the engine and you can see the gear.  Make sure it has teeth. You can also stick your finger inside and try to spin it.  Its should spin free one way and not the other.   If it spins both ways then 100% stater clutch.

  3. Partzilla.com is great for atv parts and all schematics are on the site with manufacturers part numbers.
Compression should be a lot higher then what your getting.  I would say minimum reading should be 90 pounds.
Its going to be valve stem seals or piston/rings.

  4. Two ways to go about this.
    1. Pull the engine and split it open and drop new crank in the engine.  Three hours to pull the engine. Prob 6 hours of engine labor and another three hours putting it back in tue frame.
    2. Find a used motor on eBay and swap out the lower end.

  5. The weather sucks here too. Cold and rainy every other day!!! All my work has been inside except for the yard.   I picked up a nice fridge today from a neighbor that had one in his garage. I told him i was going to buy a freezer chest for the garage. (Mine sh** the bed). He said he has a nice fridge in the garage wrapped up and to take it.   I help him out a lot so he insisted and said he's not and will not use it.  We are hearing a lot about the meat processing plants are closing down due to a ton of employees getting sick.  So no pork, bacon 🥓 or ribs, beef plants as well so I'm stocking up on as much as i can right now.   Oh and beer 🍺 too!

  6. On a chevy small block (One of my favorites) btw... The starters usually get stuck when the shaft gets eventually gets coated in a heavy grease and sediment buildup. The starter wont engage the starter gear  to the flywheel Thats why tapping it with a mallet usually works to free it up. Especially in the colder months.  I love, love, love my small block engines.  Built thousands!! Fast ones.
Anyway if you see the gear that is broken is why the flywheel is getting pulled. Something kicked back and sheared a few teeth off.  So now a fix and then a reason as to why it blasted a few teeth off. I was thinking some sort of kick back/backfire? Maybe a compression issue with the automatic decompression device ?
Whats your thoughts on this  @MarkinAR?

  7. Sounds like a solid plan brother. Keep us posted.
    FYI

    1. lots pf grease on all moving parts for the initial start up.

    2. Spin the engine by hand so you make sure nothing is hitting.  (Pull the spark plug first)
    3. After the above is done without the spark plug and fuel turned off  crank the engine so it pumps oil up to the top of the head.

Then you can go ahead and crank it up.

  8. Hey @KevinWithNumbers, welcome to Quadcrazy.
Hopefully you held on to the old carburetor? If so great. Never let that go since oem carburetors are the best and always rebuildable as long as they are not cracked or striped.

I highlighted/arrowed where the air fuel screw is.  It may have a brass plug over it.  If so you have to drill the brass plug out.  Its pretty common to do this.  Some states require this cap for emissions reasons etc.

Ive never had any luck with the $50 cheap aftermarket carbs from china.  They always have rough spots when you throttle up.
Backfire issues etc. Just to finicky for me Hopefully you get lucky.
If not then you can soak and rebuild the original carburetor.   We can help you along with that.
