  1. Had the opportunity to buy a 1999 King Quad really cheap with snow plow included. Has 2000 miles on it. Im used to having Hondas and i am not familiar with Suzuki at all. Where should the choke be when running? I runs with the choke lever toward the ground but stalls when coming to the end of pushing a pile of snow.
  2. Hi guys, I dont post here much but I figured I would pass on some info in the hopes it will help someone. I was having a problem with my KQ while plowing snow the other day. It would stall frequently while idling. Especially when stopping to switch to reverse or a forward gear. But it would run fine at anything above idle. My buddy came over to help me with it. We determined that it was starving for fuel or dirt was stuck in the carb somewhere. After confirming that there were no clogged screens, filters or vacuum leaks anywhere, we disassembled the carb and blew out all the passages with carb cleaner and compressed air even though everything looked spotless. Then we checked the pilot screw setting. Someone had already been in there as the plug was removed. We checked the setting and it was 2-1/2 turns out from the seat. We set it at an even 3 turns and put it all back together. It now runs flawlessly with no stalling! I believe it was just a bit lean on the low end. Anyway, hope this helps someone.:cheers2c: BTW, this is my first season with this (or any) quad and I am AMAZED at its plowing ability for such a small machine!
  3. Several months ago I repaired the carb to my sons 98 300 2x4... My mechanic cleaned the carb and replaced a needle seat... $6 part... My question... Is there anyway to prime the darn thing? The high idle gas setting does not do a good job priming the carb for cold starting... If you let the thing sit for a month or so it is the coldest natured engine I have ever owned... Ever... I understand that the newer carbed models came with a primer bulb... Is there a fix for this issue other than ponying up for a newer carb??? BTW, I filled up the tank with gas and utilized ethanol treatment... Many thanks for any replies...
  4. i have a 2000 suzuki king quad 300 4x4 and i washed the air filter one day with gas and let the air filter dry and put it on and it wouldnt crank? it has spark and if you put your hand over the carb it aint getting suction but i pulled a skinny black hose going to the carb (either fuel or vacuum?) and it was blowing air out of the hose and sucking where it goes onto the carb. i would like some suggestions please
  5. I just joined the site and I am looking forward to the wealth of info. I am buying a new carb for it and after the install, will there be anything that I can do to prime it (carb) with fuel ? I assume that I would use the primer on the side of the carb ? Any suggestions for a newby. I also have a 2005 350 ES 4x4 that has been sitting for a few years . I am guessing that I will have to pull that carb and clean it also, since it wont start either. Please excuse the grammer, I am computer dumb. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hello everyone! I just picked up my first quad a couple of weeks ago- a '99 King Quad with a blown motor. I mean blown to bits, probably about half the piston was gone. It looks like the exhaust valve broke and rattled around in the engine for awhile. So I bought an engine out of an '01 and dropped it in, went incredibly smooth. The new engine did not come with drive shafts so I started pulling mine off my old engine. The front one came easy enough but the u-joints in the back appear to be peened on instead of clipped. Do I need to grind the peening out and then press the u-joint out or ? Thanks!
  7. I have scored a 1999 bayou 300 for free. It has been setting for years (2) but it was too good to pass up. I have found the usual problems, dirty tank ,clogged pitcock, gummed up carb. etc. I also noticed a oil leak. I lifted the front of the quad up high so I could get a good look at what is going on. I wiped down the case and found something im not sure about. I found a hole in the case at the front and down low. It does not look like it was hit or damaged from riding. The hole is about the width of a penny and about half an inch long, it is located where the case halfs are put together. I thought it could be a vent of some kind but to me it seems to be to low. It would get full of mud and water. I haven't put any money into the quad yet so now is the time to answer this question. Thanks for any help.
  8. My Honda 4trax 300 will not start nor run unless the choke is engaged. It runs best when the choke is completely engaged. Cleaned and looked at everything I know to try......any suggestions?

Man gave me this bike.It has sat in a barn under some blankets and saddles for 5 or 6 years everything is rusted.Motor turns over.I have a new starter coming today.I have body off.I have back brake working.For now I need to know how to get front brakes of.By the way last bike(2 wheel)I worked on was back in 60's.
  10. I was riding around the other night and it was shifting fine. No noises or anything....I stopped to pick up some stuff and then when in first gear it would rev so high and then it acted like it was in neutral. When the RPM's came back down it would engage 1st gear again. Reverse works fine. Any ideas??????????????????????????????????????????????
  11. Hello, the machine has no throttle response after appx 50% application. The throttle leaver has full range of motion, it doesn't bog down when I give it gas, it doesn't sputter, it's as if I'm holding the throttle at a static position even if I press it all the way. It will go faster if I go downhill, and of course slow down going uphill. The bike was riding fine, I was going slow down some rocky declines until it flattened out, and when I tried to give it gas to accelerate the mentioned problem happened. The Air filter is fine, the breather tube from the tank isn't clogged or crimped. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
  12. i am not getting spark after my buddy tried to by pass the ign. with a wire from batt to the coil.did that burn something out? it was running bad and not taking the throtell any suggestions
  13. Just got a new brute force a few weeks and man this thing is nice. Every bit of info i read on it is exactly true, my last for wheeler i had was an 20 some year old honda Honda. Now i have the " bug " again mid-life crisis shit i guess. This machine is very peppy on low-mid range torque, is very easy to operate, even in emergency cases. Rides like a dream, this machine also loves to climb, trust me......lol. Now i wish i would have purchased a 4x4, but stuck to my guns and told myself " If i need fourwheel drive to get out of a situation, then i dont need to be there. Thats why i have winch on the front . All i can say is ,Good power, torque, manueverability, and it has some good speed on the road....i saw 52 on the speedo, but i'm 44 yrs old thats out of my blood now. .Still some wildness left in me........................ MY MAIN QUESTIONS ARE DOES K/N OR SOMEONE PUT OUT AN AIRFILTER, AND WOULD LIKE A HI-PERFORMANCE SPARKPLUG................. OR ANY IDEAS WOULD HELP...............LOL GOT THAT CRAVING FOR A LITTLE MORE POWER. THANKS ALL !!!!!!
  14. I've gotten the wheel off, disassembled the brake assembly and gotten the new pads on. Now I'm trying to get the axle back into the hub, and having some trouble. The splines line up, but the axle on goes in until the end of the axle is flush with the hub. It still needs to go another two or three inches to be completely seated. I've tapped at it with a hammer, but I don't want to damage anything. My fear is that a bearing may be worn or loose and the axle isn't centering when I try to tap it in. Any experience/advice shared would be most helpful.
  15. Just pick this up today, every thing working and runs great. My question is the rear end. I checked the oil level and found none. What I did see looks like dried grease. How do I clean this and what do I put into the rear end, grease or oil? Can some one tell me where is the oil filter on my TRX300? Also looking for Service manual for my model.
  16. I am having what I think is ignition problems. My 2000 Bayou 300 seems to flood very easy when starting. At first I thought it was a carb problem but while testing the spart I noticed that there is no spark while the engine is turning over. When you let off of the ignition swith there is one spark. But only when you let off of the ignition switch. It has a new coil, plug wire, and plug. Any ideas? I dont know if it is the ignition box, or maybe the ignition switch. Any help would be appreciated. Rob
  17. Having trouble with a bayou 94 Kawasaki 300 that's been sat up for a year. Installed the honda carberator cleaned tank put new gas . After all of this it ran with a rough idle but it did run I ran it for about 45 minutes. Next day it will not start any suggestions?
  18. just got my motor back together and its still smoking not as bad as before but smoking pretty good still, the motor had a bad valve and one of the head bolt seals where bad and was dumping oil into cylinder so there's a lot of oil in the tailpipe cause the guy I bought it from ran it around his farm and didn't care about the smoke just bought a new plug when it fouled, could the smoke im seeing just be it burning off what's in the pipe? Bike doesn't smoke to bad when idling just when giving it gas? bike has new rings, new valves, new top end seals, new aftermarket trx carb bout an hour break in idling in my yard, the head shop said one valve seat was in spec but barely could that be the problem? any suggestions are greatly appreciated
  19. ok, here's the skinny... rideing my 98 bayou 300, its like 2am, and having lots of fun.. Thin... OHH SHIT... tree... the bayou climbed it like a monkey, my head lights wher pointed at the sky. i checked it over and no damage. so i parked it for the night. 2 days later i take it out for a ride and its overly loud and and losing power when i hit the gas. i checked the exhaust and no visible damage. i checked everything i can think of and still the same:aargh: can any one help?
  20. I bought a semi-running 96 king quad 300, it had multiple fuel issues. It's beat up, dirty, and old, but that doesn't matter since it's only going to be dragging dead snowmobiles from trailers to my shop to repair them and put up trail signs for the club. When I bought it, it would run for about 15 or 20 seconds then quit, no matter what was done to keep it alive. A quick look at the guy's house showed that the choke had come off of the carb, all the vacuum and breather lines were off of it, and the original mechanical fuel pump had been replaced with an electric one that was activated by a switch so you had to turn it on and off. At home, I discovered that the cob job wiring for the fuel pump was not connecting to the battery any longer, and the switch wasn't actually turning the pump on. Reconnecting the wire to the harness, it would now run and stay running, albeit poorly because of the choke and vacuum lines being off. Go buy the parts, lube up the frozen choke cable, install the choke, and give the carb a quick cleaning. Guess where all the hoses go, since they weren't connected and I cannot find a manual for it. Ok at this point I figure I can make educated guesses since I know the difference between the vacuum ports and bowl vents. (i've been wrenching on stuff since I was a kid, but never owned a quad) Try several different combination, some will rev through all ranges but quickly flood the engine at low rpm, others will give it a good idle but have a horrendous bog getting out of the low RPM range. I found a 99 manual, but it doesn't give hose routing. It said the turn the air jet 2 5/8 turns out, and i found that the carb is at 5 turns out. Turn that in to the spec, and it now runs like total crap. Oh, and along the way I found that the petcock is leaking so that hose is now attached to the bowl vent. I grabbed a fuel pump from my sled, and hooked that up to replace the electric one that was butchered on there, and used the small white vacuum port from the carb as a pulse line. That works just fine I have plenty of fuel. It seems to run best with the other vacuum line wide open. Thoughts? Does someone know of a place I can download a manual or have a hose routing diagram they can upload and correct carb specs for the year? Thanks,

  23. im having problems with my quad flooding out. i have cleaned the carb,petcok, fuel lines then once its running i can take the vacume line off from the petcok to the carb and it runs 100 times better but as soon as i connect the hose it sucks gas and chokes out the bike can anyone help please.
  24. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- so i bought this atv,needs a muffler,picked up a cobra muffler cheap ,do i need to rejet the carb,also i see that there is a CHAMBER-PREMUFFLER can i eliminate it
