  1. Usually I never ask for help on the Internet, but this thing has me stumped. 2001 Arctic Cat 250 4x4, I bought it from a friend, he said it ran good a week before he sold it to me. I have taking apart all the plastic/ racks. I have no spark to this machine at all. I have replaced Two ignition coils, checked the Harness for any bad spots, checked all fuses/ replaced them just because. Changed spark plug, changed Two CDI boxes, Good battery, I have checked and bi passed all neutral safety switches, and still no spark. I hooked up my Multimeter on the single wire coming into the coil and I'm getting about two volts pulsating when using the push button starter, I have also tried pull starting, and still nothing. Please if you could help me in some way in would be appreciated.. Thank you
  2. Since day one of owning the Kodiak I have not been able to shift gears going up steep roads nor down steep roads, it will shift gears fine going straight on a road though. But if i start out going up a steep road in 1st gear no matter how i try while moving it will not let me shift into 2nd gear ..etc... unless I stop then I can change into 2nd gear its the same way if I am going down a steep hill what ever gear I am in I have to stay in that gear till I stop and change to another gear. but again it is fine if I am driving on a straight road is this normal? if not is there a way to adjust it maybe a linkage to adjust to where it will shift easier when I use my foot to try and shift uphill or downhill.. I recently drove a small kawaski 220 and it shifts easily going up a steep road and down it without having to stop to shift. Would appreciate some insight from someone that knows about these type of atvs when it comes to shifting them. Thank you
  3. Here's one for ya. Why won't my speedometer work? I've had this machine for a few months now and finally got it going, after replacing the piston and boring the jug to .020" over but would like to know if any of you guys have had problems with your speedo and possibly where to start looking. Is it a mechanical or electrical issue? Don't know where to start...
  4. ok I just picked up this bike and the guy that had it cut a bunch of the wires.... so what I need is to know what wires coming out of the CDI hook up to just so I can get it to spark both the key and kill switch wires are gone I dont need it to be 100 just need to know if it will fire... this is what I have... connector 1 green black-blue stripe connector 2 orange black-white stripe connector 3 white-blue stripe thank you for your help
  5. Can anyone tell me what the significance of the holes are on the intake side of the piston. And does the size of them mean anything also. The replacement piston I bought had holes that were much bigger than the ones in the original piston. Is that a problem?
  6. My atv starts with the first pull every time and idles good but when I give it some throttle, a raddling noise happens and the atv doesnt want to move. If I give it more throttle and the rpm are very high, the atv moves forward a little bit. Not sure what to do. Thanks for looking

Hey Guys my brother has a 2007 Wolverine that has a charging problem I really don't know what all he has done to it to try to fix it, but I do know that the guy he got it from had had the charging system gone through about 2 years ago. I runs like a spotted butt ape and everything works great on it, 4 wheel drive and all but if you use the lights you have to charge the battery up before it will crank again. He uses it for going to his tree stand and used a head light all last hunting season to drive before daylight and after dark which ain't bad because we are so far back in the woods we don't see a lot of traffic if any we have communication with each other so I really ain't got a problem there. But back to the machine if anybody has any I ideas about where we might start looking let me know. I just don't know what or where to start. Thank Guys hope to hear from ya'll soon. Confused:
  8. I got a 2002 Arctic Cat 500 4x4 automatic a few days ago and it started 1 time and now all it does is backfire through the carb. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be. Thanks
  9. I just bought a 2000 explorer 400 4x4 from a guy @ work. He told me that he was running it the last time he had it out and it quit on him. He said that he changed the spark plug but just couldn’t get it to run again. When I got it home I tore all the plastic off it to make it easier to work on and get to everything. It seems to be getting spark but won’t fire even after putting some gas in the jug. He told me that he recalled that when this all started he recalls that it overheated too. Doesn’t seem to be any coolant in the radiator either. Oh yeah, it seems to have good compression too. I put my thumb over the cylinder port and cranked it and it’s hard to keep my thumb over the hole. I also pulled the flywheel to make sure that the woodruff keys was ok. There was some liquid (seemed to be coolant) in the recoil housing too, if that tells a story too. I also checked the crankcase dip stick to see if was overfilled but its not.
  10. Im used to build threads coming from the 4x4 truck world. Im sure not as many here have older quads, but its my first, it is what it is. Im going to rock this thing I like modifying, making the things the best they can be so Ill try to do that with my quad. I know theres only so much I can do, but my main focus is reliability. I dont care so much about power or speed. My trails around here are crawling trails anyway, so Im in 1st-3rd most of the time. So I have an 89 Big Bear, full time 4x4, auto clutch, IFS, solid rear axle, drive-shaft, "disc" rear, drum front. Thats all I know for now, still learning, only had it two weeks or so. Ive bought a stock used air box since mine was broken and wasnt sealing anything, no filter. Got a new filter assembly, tore apart and rebuilt the carb. Oh ya got it for $900, has a winch too. About $100 into it currently. Carb rebuid kit is on the way, few more misc parts for the carb. Its missing the little clip/housing for the throttle cable, and the baffle that goes in the float bowl. Also ordered a new ignition cylinder, I currently turn it on/off with a random key, screw driver, etc. Also the on/off switch on the left handle bar is stuck and doesnt work. Read a later model big bears front disc setup will bolt on, or mostly bolt on. Mud and dirt dont mix with drum brakes, so Ill look further into that. It would also need a new master cylinder. Took the muffler off, it was leaking all over. The baffle was rattling around inside the body of the muffler. So I welded it all up. One day Ill change it. Ive only seen two other "after market" muffler systems thatll hopefully work. Theyre supposed to fit later model big bears. Ill get to that one day. Ill post pics and edit this later. Its dinner time
  11. it all started with the the negative terminal buzzing when i try to start it. in attempting to fix that now when i turn my lights on, on the four wheeler all power is shut off. will still pull start but would like to have all issues resolved. any ideas?
  12. Good morning, I am having an issue with my 4x4 actuator not engaging. Display shows 4x4 all the time and differential is locked. The 4x4 switch does nothing and I have checked the fuses and all connections. I had recently replaced my wiring harness and the 4x4 worked fine before this. I am afraid the actuator failed but not sure how to troubleshoot it.

  15. hey all i have just a quick question. my friend is selling me what he says is a 2005 Kodiak 400. it has a solid rear axle and needs a new axle shaft. all of the research i do when looking for parts points me to believe that the 2005 had only IRS in the back. i was just wondering if any one knows if the 2005 special edition was available with a solid rear axle. thank you for any replies.
  16. Is there some way to adjust the choke cable on these quads? Wont hit a lick with cable in .You can pull choke cable out of the carb putyour finger over the hole and it will fire rite up.LEt your finger off and it will idle high .Put your finger back over the hole and it dies .I have put a new kit in the carb and everythng was done to factory spec .But jst cant figure out whats up with the choke .Any info would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Hi, i have a 1987 yamaha big bear with an electrical trouble...stator new, startor new, battery new, selenoid coil and plug new, new carburator....my mechanic man said to me all is allright with the new stock, but the bike have always sparkink touble pulse he always sparking...the timing is ok and valve adjustement is ok...i have 2 new stator and 2 have the same problem (RM stator)....the only piece is not changed is the cdi, but a cdi is about 300$ in canada...and my mechanic man said to me it's probably the cdi but if i place a order for cdi and it's not this one the trouble dont refund me because it's an electrical part... finally i found on another forum the people switch the white and red wire from the stator because the fire is about 45 degres off...anyboby trying that?? thanks for your help p.s. Excuse my poor english im french canadian

  19. i have found a link posted by one of the admin's for the service manual but the links are broken if anyone can please help me find a working link it would be greatly appreciated .....i have a 2001 artic cat 250 engine family code 13AXX.2462AA wheeler sat for almost 2 years and most of the machine was in pieces. replaced the front pumpkin,cleaned the carb(mikuni)(main jet 130) and replaced the seat and needle, machine will kinda run but is smoking and skipping like hell acts like its running extremely rich carb has proper jets but i think that someone has tampered with the fuel/air ratio on the machine. thank you in advance,Swampy

  21. Whats up fellas. My popo smokes a LOT. I unhooked the oil injection (didn't use the block off plate) and premixed, and it still smokes way too much. Would a leaking water pump seal cause this? 1997 sportsman 400L 4x4

I cant find help anywhere so Hope this is the place, I traded for a 98 350 bigbear 4x4, has no brakes at all, so I have back brake assembly apart and I think it just needed cleaning and adjustment, theres a thing I guess its called the camshaft that lifts shoes up against drum. it needs adjusting, in back it has this arrow, should the can lay horizontial front to rear or is there a certain position, any help would be great:
  23. Yes I am a noob! But I still require your assistance, I acquired a big bear and noticed the boot in the rear covering the drive shaft was leaking oil.... So I did some research and it looks like it could be the rear main seal or a loose yolk nut. So I took the liberty tearing the back end off the ATV and now what stands infront of me is the yolk nut. Leads me to my first question how do I even stick anything to tighten the thing it's nearly impossible and if it is tight how do I get anything in there to loosen it so I can replace the seal?? Please any help would be much appreciated!
  24. hi guys, got a new bike yesterday a Polaris sportsman 500 4x4, it has a 4in lift and new mud tires, nice new rims to, I traded my old work truck for it. the bike is nice! the guy that had it had the carb rebuilt and now it will idle but when you give it gas it stalls out? I took the carb off and checked it, everything looked good. but it was still stalling so I rechecked the carb, even checked the air box the sparkplug the fuel the fuel lines but its still stalling! anyone know anything about this Polaris I can use the help! im at a loss as to whats wrong with it!
  25. I have a 400 cc roketa 4X4 that the cvk carb runs gas out the aircleaner . I have reset the float and put a new carb on but it still overflows. It has an electronic plunger on the top of the carb that I don't know anything about so if anyone has had this problem or knows how to repair it ???????
