  1. Hello - A client came over with a 1993 Big Bear that he said it has been sitting in his garage for over 10yrs. So the looked over it and the wire harness has some cut wires. am looking for a electrical diagram. I have searched but no luck or just maybe i do not know how to find one. Can someone provide any help here. Thanks.
  2. Hello everyone, I recently got an 89 Big Bear on a trade. This is my first atv that I've ever owned and I'm awfully green when it comes to everything. When I got it there was a front wench installed but the support welds were busted, so I took it off. Prior to taking the wench off I was able to use the push button start, but since then I haven't been able to use it. I followed the wiring diagram in the service manual and made sure that it was all wired correctly; the only difference is the two in-line fuses that were added to the red line which runs from the ignition to the Starting Circuit Cut-Off Relay. When I turn the key it doesn't do ANYTHING...the only way I can get it to start is by taking a screwdriver and touching both sides of the starter relay to each other. When I do that, the indicator lights come on and it starts right up. My assumption is that something is not telling the starter relay that the ignition is on, but I'm not sure why. For the life of me I can't remember what it looked like when I took the wench off, lesson learned to make notes! Any suggestions would be great, because I have spent many hours trying to figure out what to do! Thanks!
  3. Hi, first time user here. My 91 Big bear will only idle on half choke. I was given the bike after it was laid up for a year or more under a car port. I have re-built the carb, replaced ignition coil, new plug, new plug cap, cleaned gas tank, fresh gas (obviously. It will start on half choke, run on half choke but when I try to take the choke off when the engine is fully warmed up after 10 mins or more of running it just starts to splutter and dies with a few little back puffs through the air air intake. Ive tried various carb adjustments but all to no avail. Ive also tried adjusting the float as it seems that the mixture is lean. Im running out of ideas.
  4. i just purchased a very used 93 big bear 350, rebuilt the carb, changed all the fluids and got it running, everything seems to be working fine, but the reverse light stays on constantly, and the neutral light refuses to come on, all the bulbs work, i checked them with a 9v battery and some jumper wires. i have the service manual and am trying to make sense of the wiring schematic, but im not an electrician. i have tested voltage at all the wires for the lights and im getting 11.7 - 12.3v at both the brown and the blue. i don`t know if there is something im missing or if a previous owner rewired something wrong. seems to me though that one of those wires should be a ground and i should just get continuity, not voltage i am working my way through the harness, disconnecting, cleaning, greasing, and reconnecting everything and so far everything looks good, just dirty.
  5. Whole bike only thing missing is Rear Diff. Call me 502-551-2431

If someone could help me out that'd be great just trying to hit some deep holes with out filling my motor.. Thanks alot
  8. So I have oil that comes out of out a small crack next to one of the top bolts. Anyone know a way to seal this or fix it without buying a whole new cylinder head? I was hoping there was something I could put on the crack to seal it or I know a welder that could just weld over it?? Thanks again, Keith
  9. 10. bought a used 98 big bear 350 a couple months ago and when i was out the other weekend i lost 2nd and 5th gear in both hi and low just wondering if this is a tranny problem or maybe clutch? any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
  11. I have a 02 big bear, and i'm having problems with it.....when you turn the lights on the engine quits working, and it seems like when it's running it's not getting any gas, it cuts out. we have cleaned the carb, and the jets...what else should we do?
  12. I recently picked up a 99 Big bear 350 2x4 and was going to add a winch. It looks as though I'll need to custom make something to mount on frame. I bought the Badlands 2000 and winch plate, but will still need some some sort of mod to get it to work in the front. Anyone have any pics of a similar model big bear with a front winch mount to give me more ideas? Anyone have welding skills and live close to Frisco ,TX and want to come by and help out? Thanks,
  13. Coming from front left tire, only when going forward, when in reverse no noise at all. Not a bearing I checked it all out, suppose just needs some grease? 2000 Big Bear 400 4x4.......
  14. Bought it as is, runs good.....when I can get it started. There is no battery for the electric start and I effin hate pull starts. Curious though before go spend money on a battery, I have no brakes....at all not even a cable, that'll come later as I dont use brakes anyways. What I am wondering is will the electric start work without brakes? While looking for a battery I seen you need to pull the rear brake for it to start. 2000 Yamaha Big Bear 4x4 Auto Clutch/Manual Shift
  15. Anyone know how to get the pull start pully off the crank so I can get my left crankcase cover off so I can change my stator out. Should I use a 3 claw bearing puller, has anyone done it with succes, I dont have one so have to rent/buy/borrow one but from the pics I dont know if it will fit between the pulley and case. This is a picture of what Im trying to get off, there is no bolt holes on the inside to thread a diffrent type of puller into. The center bolt came right out.
  16. I have a 1993 Big Bear with right front wheen bearings gone. Would anyone happen to know a generic bearing number like SK number? Thanx
  17. I just picked up a cheap big bear Im trying to fix up needs alot of work so going thru it piece by piece. 1. The air box is completely stripped no breather hose, no hose to carb, and no filter or pieces inisde. Can anyone tell me if the typical K&N air filter comes with everything I need... I know it was a oiled element stock that slid onto a sleeve which I dont have so Im trying to find the quickest easiet way to get it back together. 2. I bought a new ignition and plugged it in and it started hissing and getting hot at the plug connection, I ripped it out quick and checked with my meter and it still seems to be ok. So can anyone tell me if there brown wire the wire thats hot with ignition on has continuity to ground.... I traced mine all the way back to getting ground thru the neutral and reverse switches thru the relays and all. The only other thing I can figure is it seems when i pulled the ignition plug off the 2 prongs looked like they are pushed in too far as if they wouldt insert/engage into the female plugs on the opposite plug and maybe its jumping/arcing and shorting out. I do have a service manual, wiring diagrams, and found OEM parts diagrams I just cant make sense of these couple things with out a little direction. Any ideas???
  18. Ok so recently I purchased this four wheeler (my first atv) fairly cheap. There are almost no brakes on the rear (barely enough to stop, loading it was a sight!) and the front brake lever has no pressure at all. I'm guessing the front brakes just might need to be bled but i can't find the bleeder screw. The person I bought the atv off of says it is a 1997 model but after inspecting the VIN I have found that it is actually a 1994 model. After knowing this and also knowing that yamaha changed the brakes from discs to drums after 1996 could he have installed the wrong parts? He says he put new pads on the front and back and also a new rear brake cable. Could this be why the brakes are not working? What should I do?
  19. Hello I'm looking for a service manual for a 99 Yamaha big bear 4x4, Much would be appreciated.
  20. I want to bore out my 99 Big Bear 350 and I would like to know how far I can go and still keep it dependable. Is .060 or .080 to much? Thanks!
  21. sounds like valve taping but all is in spec ..looking on the net seems to be normal but when its cold you don't hear it till after its warmed up [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33-mE-bBKog]2013-01-28_20-27-17_140.mp4 - YouTube[/ame] this sound about norm ?? it runs and starts great
  22. got a seal leaking in front right side of transfer case how hard to fix and bike boggs down when giving it throttle had carb checked and rebuilt seems like too much air going in carb any ideas...also clicking when turning handle bars but not in u joints i feel it in rod going into transfer case its not really loud...just wanting ideas thanks cracking into all this tomorrow....
  23. I own a 1998 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x2. It has hydraulic drum front brakes and mechanical single drum brake in rear. When I bought the quad a yr ago the brakes barely worked. I installed rebuild kit for brake master cylinder, replaced wheel cylinders up front, front/rear shoes, and replaced rear brake cable. The front brakes grab sort of ok now, but the rear barely grabs at all. On a side note; If I drive through any trails with muddy water, moisture is getting inside the drums. Worse in the rear drum. These drum brakes have never worked great. They slow me down but don't have enough bite to lock up the wheels. Now I have considered my drums may have worn thin, therefore causing the shoes to not make strong enough contact (???) I'm guessing. The front brakes are spooned out so they fit snug and they work just ok. The rears I have adjusted close to the maximum setting for the actuator arm. I read online about a Yamaha 1998 Big Bear 4x4 owner using a 2004 Big Bear 4x4 front disc brakes on it. He did have to dremel and drill out the lower ball joint to make new knuckles fit since the 04 knuckle has it's ball joint on bottom. It sounded cool and the owner claimed it stopped better. I'm considering a conversion, but it sounds expensive. I hate sinking $400+ worth of disc brake parts into a quad a bought for $500, and I already replaced the existing brake parts I previously listed. I'm just tired of my brakes working poorly and every time I get into some water on the trails the drums look like a septic tank inside the next day. I live in FL and this is the land of the Swamp. There is no avoiding mudholes and water. I would like some brakes that could survive any wet conditions. Any suggestions or helpful advice is appreciated.
  24. Hey there everyone. Father in law picked up a used 2000 BB400 4x2 - motor runs well, no smoking. Little cold natured, but starts easy enough on full choke, and as it warms up you can back the choke off to a normal idle. Not uncommon for older carbed bikes/quads. but - cold or hot, this thing is sometimes a real pain to get into reverse or 1st without rocking it back and forth a good bit. as it warms up, again it acts better, but doesn't get perfect. When moving,it shifts up and down smoothly and accurately with no signs of clutch slipping. Oil looks good and clean. I see the clutch adjustment on the left side crankcase - but before I go screwing with anything, I'd like some other's opinions on what I might do to make the engagement easier. thanks, Chris
  25. Two thumbs up! Very excited this morning. Temp was 26 degrees this morning so I decided to try a cold start on the Big Bear before heading to work. She fired right up! Awsome!
