  1. Looking for some help on how to take the front drive shaft out on my 1991Yamaha Big Bear so we can replace the u joint.
  2. I know I'm new here but not new to PowerToys. My collection includes a 71 CB750 Chopper, A 78 XS100 bagger, an 81 IT 175 Enduro, a 76 XT500 DP, and a 78 Peterborough boat. My quad experience is limted to the OLs HondaYamaSuki Special. I gave it to her last Christmas. Its a 85 Suzi Quadsport chassis, with a 1980 Honda XR200 motor, and modified Raptor plastics. It features an FMF Turbocore silencer, a Custom built cable side kick starting system, and dragon scale paint. Pics to follow. More to the point, I have her dads 95 350 bigbear in the shop for some work, and Ive run into an issue in the front diff. Everything I`ve seen says that the front diff carrier bearings are 35x72x17. Unfortunately, the bearing boss on the carrier I have here is only 32mm. There is 3mm of play between the carrier and it supporting bearing. Everything i know from all my experience says this is WRONG.`The carrier and ring gear look to be in decent shape, there is NO obvious wear on the carrier bearing bosses. the bearin gs look to be brand new, but yet I have this problem. The carrier I have here is a limited slip diff, and it fits the CVjoint splines, sorta. I`m kinda lost, so if you have a stock diff on the bench, could you measure the bearing bosses for me. That would be awesome.
  3. hi need help with my big bear 350 2x4 1997... front wheels (both) whobles a lot...it is not the bearings i checed.... looc lice the dum brace... the drum is loose on the spline for the front shaft ( not 4x4).. lice i said i checed the bearings and their good....wondering if it could be wrong drums on it... or maybe bent drums wich not sure it could bent more licely breac but anyway i need help...when i put the shaft into the bearings all he way tru .. teh shaft doesnt move... so bearings good.... it is when i put the drum bac on and i attach the wheel on it....and i do have a manual and not too helpfull....of course the right thing to do would be to bring the qua to a dealer or mecanic.. but dont have a trailer and mostly no cash to pay someone to fix it.....i rather do it myselfe but i i dont no if i should buy new drums and their not cheap.... what could it be and what solution i have?? thanx.
  4. this is probably posted wrong but i'm new here and can't find info i'm looking for with the search tool. I have a 1997 Big Bear 4x4 350. To shift into reverse the rear brake pedal has to be puished and the select lever pulled back. PROBLEM: i allowed a "buddy" to "adjust" the brakes for me and now I can't get into reverse without using a screwdriver to push back the cable pin inside the shift selector. Maybe the brake adjustment had nothing to do with the issue but I'm pretty new and raw to bike mechanics so I'm looking for ANY help!

  6. Ok, so last month I noticed my 96 Yamaha big bear 350 SE was lacking power. I took off the clutch cover and found the centrifugal clutch was very worn. I replaced the clutch with a 2ed hand one that was in good shape and has lots of material left on it. I also replaced the clutch packs as I figured I might as well for the extra $40 seeing as how I had it apart. Changed the oil. Have 10w40 atv oil in it now. So I took it out today and still no power. It starts and idles fine but in higher gears it will bog down and if I try to spin the wheels by pushing against a telephone pole, ect it will just start to push and then bog down. It won't spin the tires at all under load. -I've cleaned the carb a million times. -No holes in any intake boots ect. -Air filter is clean. -I've adjusted the clutch from one extreem to the other with that little screw on the side with no change at all -I've played with the air/fuel screw on the carb with no change at all -I haven't really checked compression but it will blow my thumb right off the hole when cranking It just started doing this suddenly and I'm running out of ideas on what it could be. Any thoughts?
  7. 1st post and would like to say hi to everyone, Last week I bought an 84 Honda big red. Throttle cable is frozen, rear brake is locked. Can't do anything with it like it is, any suggestions. I have two other honda's and have never had to do anything to them. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
  8. 08 Big Bear 400 - Engine cuts out at idle and low RPM. Sounds and feels like you turn off the key and then right back on. Sometimes it will die when idling. It does this sitting still or moving so I do not suspect wiring. Runs great at higher RPM no cut out or missing. The machine starts very easily at all times hot or cold. I have checked or replaced the following; air cleaner element, spark plug, plug wires and ignition wiring, fuel filter, carb bolts and gasket. There are no unusual engine sounds. Bike has about 600 miles. I push snow with it and it is very annoying as many times I operate at a low rpm and that is when this occurs. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  9. My rear brake linkage become embedded with mud and burned out the rear wet brakes in the differential. I have found the replacement parts but was wondering if anyone has removed the rear differential and can provide some tips. Yes I am sure the plates are shot. Thanks
  10. Hi everyone,, newbie here,,picked up an ol 87 350 Big Bear and been searching the Net for days and found nothing on which way High & Low Range is ?? I dont really see a dif if the lever is all the way forward or up straight ,, sooo can n e one tell me which is which & maybe why i dont see of dif where i put it ??
  11. I have recently rebuilt my yfz 450 as a lot of you know from my other posts. Well, they bike runs great. Very strong but i'm kinda wanting to sell it to build my 06 raptor 700r with 50th anniversary plastics. I've had a few potential buyers of the newly build 480 but all have turned out to be scams. I had an offer last night from a guy and after i covered all of my basis', he emails me this morning saying "well i did some research on the cylinder works cylinder you have on it and i found out that they tend to crack". Does anyone know if this is true? I've had no trouble with it. It has a 13:1 comp cp piston with a stock stroke 06 OEM crank and rod. The guy tried to get me to email the vin to him buy i refused and then told him if he was bringing a check, to make sure to cash it before he got here and the next email this morning was the about cylinder works cylinder having cracking issues.   13. Hey everyone, first post here. Have you guys seen these Fender sets on eBay? Their Real Tree Hydro Dipped OEM fender sets for $199.99 eBay Item number 250622898088 At first I was thinking theres got to be a catch cause these from Cheapcycleparts.com was over $600.00! But I crossed my fingers and ordered some. Before I found these I had tried painting my fenders didn’t work for me. Then I took them to be painted by a specialist and they did hold up much better but over time the paint still didn’t last. I read up on the fenders and learned that the plastic composites the Stock fenders use is not good for any sort of coating. Before I got the ones off eBay I was thinking they two might lose the covering but I learned these are not the same plastics composites as the original fenders are. So I jumped for them, when I got them on the first thing I did was bend the crap out of them before I even put them on, nothing no cracking nothing! Since, I’ve rubbed against trees etc riding not a issue yet. I love-em! Just wanted to see if anyone else had grabbed a set of these and what they thought.
  14. on my 95 bigbear. i ust completely cleaned every nook and cranny. what is the proper carb adjusting procedure? how many turns on the air screw, and setting the cable, how far up is the slide supposed to be?
  15. I just bought this machine, it wouldnt even idle so I cleaned the carb and reassembled it, cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel line and set the carb to the initial settings per my manual. Now it idles rough and seems like it's running rich, i get black smoke out the muffler. I set the pilot screw to 2 3/4 turns out per the manual, have attempted to adjust it but it doesn't seem to react like it should. Any ideas?
  16. hey guys. new hear. i just got a 95 big bear that ran fine when i looked at it, but now when i startit, it idles real bad. it runs for a bit at a higher idle, then dies right down and then dies. fire it back up and turn the idle screw in and it idles high. will run fine for a bit then stutters and idles down almost dies then lights up again, then a second later, dies. ive cleaned the carb the best i can . blew out the passages and tried again. still does the same . the air screw was bottomed right down. i opened it to about 2 turns out. seemed to bring the idle back up, then stuters and back down till almost dead, then dies. any suggestions?
  17. i just want to say hi first off. i just got burned bad on a quad. 95 yammy bigbear 4x4. anyways, i get home and get stuck. front wheels dont spin. first i thought that the cv joints are gone. find out after tearing front end apart that the gears inside the diff will turn when you turn the yolk by hand. as soon as you put the splined shaft of the cv joint into the diff, and turn the yolk going into the diff, the cv's on both side wont turn when you hold them with your hand. im baffled as to whats wrong. i pulled the diff apart and took out the big gear and disassembled that gear. in side that gear there are three rings that have like a checkerd pattern on them. the outer one looks to have the pattern worn off. are these some kind of clutch plates or pressure plates that lock up the cv's and make them turn? if you spin the yolk that goes into the front diff and look into where the cv's go, you can see the spline turn. as soon as the splines on the cv shaft go in the spline inside3 the diff stop turning when turning tha yolk by hand. please help. i payed 1500 for this thing and after having it for 2 hrs, the guy tells me go to hell.

  19. Is it possible to put a motor from a big bear 350 into a timberwolf? Reason I ask is that I have a timberwolf with a bit of a rod knock, and I have big bear with a bad rear end and axle with a good motor. So, is it possible?
  20. I have got a 87 big bear 350 4x4, I have been working on.It was running rough when I bought it.I cleaned the carbs and need to adjust it a little more to get it right,but it is running better. But, the problem I have it smokes alot,when I bought it and got it home it was low on oil and did not smoke much,but after I added the proper amount of oil it smokes alot.It is white colored smoke and it has oil residue on the tail pipe,it seems to have good compression. Do I need new rings or valve seals or guides? Any help would be appreciated.

  22. Need some info about this atv. Looking to trade my 2007 can-am rally for it. The rally is falling apart and the transmission selector needs a new spring so instead of spending 500 for the mechanic to fix it im getting rid of it. SOOOOO, if there are any problems with the 1987 yamaha big bears i should know about please tell me. i.e. engine problems, front diff problems, it would be greatly appreciated thanks, Outlander
  23. For starters, I'm not a mechanic, but due to economic times I've been forced to repair my own ATV. My clutch had been slipping for some time, so I bought a service manual and ordered new parts. I put in the new clutch plates and reinstalled just the way it came apart. Now my Big Bear won't even move at all. I put 10WX30 in and then changed to 20WX50 with the same results thinking it was the oil. The oil isn't synthetic. Any help would be appreciated.

  25. my big bear is smoking. a guy i know said i when it does that and i just replace the rings it will end up doing it again. he aslo told me i would need another piston and have to get it bored. would just replacing the rings and getting it honed fix the problem or what? any advise is appreciated thanks
