  1. 2006 yamaha wolverine 450 carb cold idle issues it stays running when I have the choke up but when I put it back down to idle it wants to stall out. This machine only has 218 miles had has pretty much been sitting for that long lol. Runs great in the warm but is really rough in the cold. I am going to try to change the gas, new air filter, and spark plugs. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
  2. Wanted to see if someone could tell me if they think my problem is the solenoid relay or the starter itself. starts and runs fine with pull rope but if I try to use electric start then it will just barely drag over maybe once or twice and then stop just like it does when the battery is dead. battery is hot but just to make sure I even hooked up booster cables and still did same thing. does it sound like the solenoid is the problem or do I need new starter? checked fuses and they are still good.
  3. Ok I have a bayou I have been working on runs at idle once the throttle gets to about 40 to 50 it falls in its face I have done the following Cleaned carb SEVERAL TIMES Compression test - good Leak down test - good Adjusted the valves - good Checked timing - spot on Coil test - good Stator test - good Crank sensor - good Checked the crank key - good Cleaned air filter cleaned gas tank sprayed carb cleaner around boot head and cylinder All good Tested carb float level - within spec Only thing I noticed is there is a bunch of dirt and dryer mud in all electrical conections that will be getting cleaned this bike is all stock I'm just pulling out my hair trying to get this thing to run right
  4. Hi, first time user here. My 91 Big bear will only idle on half choke. I was given the bike after it was laid up for a year or more under a car port. I have re-built the carb, replaced ignition coil, new plug, new plug cap, cleaned gas tank, fresh gas (obviously. It will start on half choke, run on half choke but when I try to take the choke off when the engine is fully warmed up after 10 mins or more of running it just starts to splutter and dies with a few little back puffs through the air air intake. Ive tried various carb adjustments but all to no avail. Ive also tried adjusting the float as it seems that the mixture is lean. Im running out of ideas.
  5. i just purchased a very used 93 big bear 350, rebuilt the carb, changed all the fluids and got it running, everything seems to be working fine, but the reverse light stays on constantly, and the neutral light refuses to come on, all the bulbs work, i checked them with a 9v battery and some jumper wires. i have the service manual and am trying to make sense of the wiring schematic, but im not an electrician. i have tested voltage at all the wires for the lights and im getting 11.7 - 12.3v at both the brown and the blue. i don`t know if there is something im missing or if a previous owner rewired something wrong. seems to me though that one of those wires should be a ground and i should just get continuity, not voltage i am working my way through the harness, disconnecting, cleaning, greasing, and reconnecting everything and so far everything looks good, just dirty.
  6. Hey all! I am new on here and searched around to see if I could find a solution to my issue. There were a few threads that beat around the bush but I didn't find one that nailed my problem. So here it is (hopefully not again)! I bought a little 250 for my wife and we took it out right after that and it ran great. Came back to the shop, parked it for about a week or two with a few starts in between, and then went out over the weekend and it started cutting out and backfiring into the carb. It seems like the choke was sticking cause it was "loading up" and you'd have to give it a bunch of gas to get it running again. It won't idle while in gear, or in neutral for that matter. It runs for a few seconds and then will backfire and die. There was a bit of smoke that would come out the top of the carb as well. When I'd have it running and in any gear, I'd take it up to about 3-4000 rpms and you could hear it cutting out a bit. No pattern to it, just random cutting out. However, when going through the gears at full throttle it ran fine. I have went through the carb and cleaned up everything as best as possible. There were some o-rings that could have been replaced but didn't have any. I put it back together without the new ones but they are on order. There was one thing of curious note...on the diaphragm on the top of the carb, there is/should be a brass cylinder on the outside of the diaphragm. It is now missing. Will that make the difference? I always thought it was for idle purposes. I know its supposed to be there cause I have saw them plenty on my R6 carbs. (nearly robbed one out of my spare set of carbs) Overall, I'd like some input on why this is happening and what I can do to fix it. Are there any rebuild kits out there worth a crap? Let me know...and sorry for being so long winded!
  7. Howdy, I have an issue with my Raptor 700, Last weekend I was out and about and the rear axel bearing Failed... Badly!! and im in the process of trying to change the bearings, Has anyone got any Tips on how to get the old bearings Out? or where I can get a new Rear Spacer for cheap, I don't really want to spend £60 for what seems to be just a bit of pipe
  8. I purchased a used 2001 Yamaha Warrior, and the owner stated all it needed was a starter (friend of a friend type deal). I installed the starter and it turns over, however, during starting there is a loud knocking sound. The sound goes away after it starts. I removed the side cover to review the gears, and they all appear okay, with no missing teeth on the gears, and nothing visably loose. Any ideas? Appreciate any help.
  9. Hope someone can help: I’m having the same issue with both of my new quads and I’m not sure what the solution is. Both quads are sputtering heavily when accelerating (regardless of gear) and now even having issues climbing any sort of hill even in 1st gear, it’s as though I was trying to ride it in to high of a gear…it just dies. Took it into the shop and they said they couldn’t replicate the problem, they thought maybe the chock wasn’t all the way in. That wasn’t the issue because I just took it out this past weekend and the same problem again. They performed a major service on the bike (Inspect & adjust valves, replace spark plugs, oil filter, inspect battery, etc etc). It’s having this problem more often in higher elevations (3k-5k) feet, but was even doing this out in the desert so it can’t only be an elevation issue. Dropped it back off at the shop on the way home…Anyone have any suggestions? Very frustrating
  10. Hello Quadcrazy.com Ive been riding this 350cc warrior for about half a dozen times and haven't ran into any troubles with it today. When Im riding ill have the throttle held constant on a certain gear, then every now and then it seems like the quad dies. When his happens I have released the throttle and re applied it but it continues to happen. Ive let it cool down but the problem keeps re accuring. Does anyone have any input to what the problem could be? Spark plugs perhaps?
  11. Hey guys could use some help here. Have polaris 400 95' dang thing no matter what i doe for adjusting the carb still does same thing. Cleaned it thoroughly. Seems to start fine when choke is open but as soon as i take it off it revs up for a second then just dies. Plus doesnt seem to idle properly. Have adjusted the idle screw and air fuel screw to no end still have same problem. Need help anyone? Anyone?
  12. Hey, for last couple weeks I've had issues posting a reply or posting a thread. Any ideas ?? It's taken me all day just to get this posted ........ HELP !!!
  13. Ok so recently I purchased this four wheeler (my first atv) fairly cheap. There are almost no brakes on the rear (barely enough to stop, loading it was a sight!) and the front brake lever has no pressure at all. I'm guessing the front brakes just might need to be bled but i can't find the bleeder screw. The person I bought the atv off of says it is a 1997 model but after inspecting the VIN I have found that it is actually a 1994 model. After knowing this and also knowing that yamaha changed the brakes from discs to drums after 1996 could he have installed the wrong parts? He says he put new pads on the front and back and also a new rear brake cable. Could this be why the brakes are not working? What should I do?
  14. hey guys my primary clutch the inner fixed half is loose and wiggles around but i cannot tell whats wrong what should i be checking according to schematics all the parts are right
  15. Finally got the beast to run. However it will not run unless the choke is on the half to full position. After it starts with the choke on, it idles without any rpm change. Nice and smooth. Would appreciate some help.
  16. I'ts a real pain in the arse when your ATV won't start or run right. The 300 I have, plus several on this site, have carb issues. I know you can greatly improve the intake system on a small block Chevy, soooo.... Has anyone tried modifying fuel delivery or changing carbs to improve fuel delivery and specificly reliability?
  17. Carb issues help? I just rebuilt the carb on my '04 Magnum 330. It's a Mikuni 34mm CV carb. I got the rebuild kit from my local Polaris dealer. I also got 8' of 1/4" fuel line and a new in-line filter. I drained/cleaned the fuel tank and the fuel is now for the lawn mower. All of the fuel lines were replaced from the tank to the petcock, to the fuel pump, and to the carb. I even replaced the vacuum line from the carb to the fuel pump. New in-line filters installed. Fresh fuel in the tank. The carb kit had replacement parts for everything except the pilot screw/needle. I checked the float settings when I rebuilt it. I clipped the needle at 3 of 5, just like when I tore it down (factory setting). I cleaned the pilot screw, and reinstalled to two turns out from bottom. I was able to get it started w/o any problems, and it idles perfect (got lucky). But I haven't adjusted the pilot screw. Now my problem. I start up, closed the choke, and idles fine. BUT, if I try to give it gas it starts to stumble. I tried to give it wide open throttle, and it died. I can restart it and it runs fine at idle. I haven't tried driving it yet since I still have the front end tore apart. Any thoughts? I can get to the needle easy enough, but it's clipped at the same setting as I tore it apart at, and where it's been running fine since I bought it. Thanks in advance, Wayne St Louis, MO
  18. I've got the rear end popping when its under a load, I know that can't be good, but its also blowing oil out of blow by hose? Why I don't know, it hasn't been over filled with oil, also has gas in breather box. Does anyone have any ideas? Atv only has 400 hours on it.
  19. I picked up my first quad last week. A 1995 Wolverine 4X4 350. It has issues, but I got it cheap (I hope!) It runs and rides well. The issue is mostly wiring. Someone in its pervious life has buggered up the wiring. I installed a new battery and ground cable, but I have to jump the selonoid to start it. There are a few wire connections not connected. The start button feels as if there is no spring behind it. Lights do not work. The ignition is missing, I assume they had bypassed that with some creative wiring. The question is: Should I locate a wiring harness and start from there? I am having trouble finding manuals, diagrams for the quad. Just looking for direction at this point. Joe
  20. hows it going, my name is Brad and i recently bought a quadsport for 200 dollars i knew there was problems with it when i bought it but my dad and i are stumped at what the problems with it could be having owned multiple 4 wheelers it burns oil and i knew that when i bought it, pure white smoke screen when i go down the trail its quite fun to smoke people out but its really starting to get on my nerves, my dad thinks it could be the rings but i have yet to tear it apart and see i want a second opinion before i waste my time doing it it doesent idle at all, i have to keep on the gas when i start it up (if it even will start up its a pain to start) it almost seems like that the carb is clogged or something, the guy that owned it before me put some shitty supertrapp pipe on it and i think it also might have something to do with it im about to take the torch to it and cut the stupid thing off cause he welded right to the header pipe and run a straight pipe cause ive had no luck on trying to find a stock pipe for it.....the spark plugs come out nasty and carboned up like hell, doesent even idle with the choke on it when i do get to ride it it sounds like its almost backfireing and like its bogging down but it feels like it should be putting out more power than it should dont get me wrong when i get up to the 4th or 5th gear it runs perfectly when i keep on the gas, its fun to ride but id like it to be able to atleast idle cause it sucks when i have to stop and keep reving it any replys/advice would be greatly appreciated thank you
  21. I was riding around the other night and it was shifting fine. No noises or anything....I stopped to pick up some stuff and then when in first gear it would rev so high and then it acted like it was in neutral. When the RPM's came back down it would engage 1st gear again. Reverse works fine. Any ideas??????????????????????????????????????????????
  22. I have a 2005 Sportsman 700 EFI that I bought new. Recently this past spring, when I would turn the ignition to start it, I would hear a click, but the engine would not start. If I turn the key back to the off position and then try to start it again, it would ususally fire right up. Over time it has gotten progressively worse. Instead of just getting the click once and then starting, about a month ago, I noticed it might take two or three attempts, getting a click each time. And then on the 4th or 5th time it would start. This past weekend, when I turned the key, there was nothing, not even a click. After a few attempts, I would get a click when I tried to start it and after a few more attempts it would start. So I'm posting this today in hopes that someone might have had a similar problem and solution. From looking at some diagrams, replaceable parts would be: 1) Ignition switch 2) Starter Solenoid Switch 3) Starter Unit 4) Battery Before I go and buy any or all of these, where should I start? Thanks in advance
  23. I have a 2003 bayou 250. I rebuilt carb because its sat for a few years. Didn't run before rebuild. Now it starts up but runs terrible. Idles extremely high, which I can adjust. But engine makes a clicking noise, and the rpms drop and bike dies... there is hesitation on acceleration with popping and bogging. What could be causing this? What would be stock setting for air/fuel mixture screw that is on bottom of carb, and setting for idle screw on side of carb? Really confused as what clicking would be. Any help would be great. Thanks
  24. Over the winter I had a mouse build a nest in the air box of my 2002 warrior. I took my carburator apart and cleaned it. I got it running again but there are defiantly still some issues. I have tried cleaning it a couple of time now. When I gas it, it runs fine, but then when I let off the gas it continues to run like I never took my thumb off the gas. After a few seconds it returns to its normal idle. Also when I gas it will pop randomly. It wont cut out completely, but it pops like there is air escaping or something. Finally the resting idle is not consistant at all. It revs up and down. It doest do this drastically, but there is a noticeable variance in the idle. Any ideas or advice on how I can fix this would be greatly appreciate. Thanks a lot for helping me out.
  25. I bought a 200x nt sure what year not running. All the wires from the engine to cdi to cdi box To spark plug . Got it rigged up and now it has spark- i got it to fire twice yesterday for about 3-4 seconds each time. It has a diff style MIC carb on it. Its gettin gas to the bowl but from there i am not sure. From the carb back there is no air hose idk i that makes a difference or nt. i am lookin for the correct way to connect the ignition system. And does anyone knw were to get a 200x carb for cheap?
