  1. I have a 350 warrior that is experiencing fuel/air vapor blowback out of the air intake side of the carburetor followed by back fireing, powerloss and flames shooting out the back of the carb. Does anyone know what could be causing this???
  2. i have a 2007 suzuki vinson 500 4x4, runs great everything is fine and then one day out of the blue the machine will not shift into park. there is no apparent damage to any parts or linkage. any ideas?
  3. Hey guys my father in law was bugging me to take his 3 wheeler home and fix it (get it out of the yard) so finally i said i would. It sat around outside for 4 or so years. New plastic gas tank, cdi box, spark plug wire, new carb from ebay, stripped all the old shit that wasnt working off, changed the oil, and thats pretty much about it. Finally i got her going and for the most part it ran fine. It seems after a while it just wont start agin. New gas and a clean out in the carb usually solves the problem. Im not to familiar with a carb. I wont remove any jets or needles or anything cause im not too sure how to remove them or put them back. Anyways some small issues to start. I cant remember if the choke is on up or down, it kind of blows out black smoke for a while and then seems to go away, and the screws (2) on the carb i cant remember how many turns in or out, the idle screw seems like it needs to be adjusted all the time. If its at perfect idle the next time i go to use it it seems like the idle is too high again. but if i turn it out too much i beleive i have a hard time starting it the next time. In order to start it i usually have to pin the throttle, not sure if thats normal. For the most part this trike is awaesome and im glad i chose it as a project but I dont think im quite finished yet. Anybodys opinions would be appreciated or some suggestions as to some better parts or anything. Thanks
  4. I HAVE A 95 POLARIS 400 BIG BOSS AND I OVERHETAE DTHE MOTOR ABOUT 750 MILES AGO AND SO I DID THE TOP END KIT NEW PISTON BORED ONE SIZE OVER 0.010 FROM STOCK SLOWLY BROKE MOTOR IN AND I ONLY USE THIS QUAD FOR HUNTING SO IT DOESN'T GET BEAT ON BUT I WAS OUT HUNTING SEP. LONG WEEKEND AND THE LAST DAY HUNTING I LEFT IT RUNNING AND CAME BACK AND IT WAS SMIKING LIKE A BANSHEE. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I RODE IT TILL TWO WEEKS AGO AND WENT HUN TING AGAIN AND DTHE COMPRESSION DIDNT SEEM RIGHT AND WAS SMOKING A LOT THE OVER HEAT LIGHT DOESN'T WORK THE SECOND DAY HUNTING I VE BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS THE ENGINE GAVE OUT ON ME THE PISTON MELTED ON THE EXHAUST SIDE AND I BLOW A HOLE INTO THE WATER JACKET ANY SUGGESTIONS i KNOW I WILL NEED TWO RE SLEEVE AND NEW TOP END KIT BUT I DONT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN
  5. I recently purchased a lt 230. I knew it had issues but was a clean looking bike.So anyhows.Iam having poor idle ect. When running the engine has no knocks or pings gong on but seem to be have air fuel problems.Almost like it taking in air somewhere and cause high then low revs and slight popping noises.Iam no rocket scientist but did try to troubleshoot the issues.I started with basic airfilter check.Upon inspection the foam airfilter had just crumble by the touch of my fingers.Needless to say its in the garbage now.So next i went into the carb.Had smalls junks of rust sitting in the bottom of bowl.Previous owner said it sat outside for quit some time.Anyhows i check the carb for any clogged fuel and or air passages. All seemed good actually. Now back to when i removed the carb from airbox and cylinder intake.I removed the throttle slide cable from carb and disconnected fuel line from pitcock valve. So next i was getting ready to remove the starter cable from the cap starter plug that screws down into an area on the carb.Needless to say it came loose without have to remove the cap starter plug.So i was like.hmmm???? So i was like what the heck is this cable suppost to hook up to.So i decided to pull up schematics on bikebandit.com.It shows that it hooks to a plunger in the carb there.Well, i never seen no plunger.MISSING..LOL...Could this be my issue? And what does this plunger and manuel cable actually do? I would think without this plunger in place that it could be the air issue i was thinking i was having.Any feedback would be awsome! Thanks
  6. I'm working on my brothers' 2002 Suzuki Vinson 500 . It sat for a few years before I got into it. I'm concentrating on the carb - I replaced orings, needle, etc. and soaked jets, bowl and anything that I could get off the carb that the solution wouldn't eat. I also removed the tank and flushed it with hot water - it's clean. The gas cap innards rusted away and the tank had a lot of rust and water in it before I cleaned it. I replaced the gas cap and installed a new fuel valve because the screens were broken in the old one. The bike will run but spits and sputters and backfires. If you "open it up" it falls on its face and stalls - but starts right up. Here is a link to an exploded view of the carb: Ohio Honda Yamaha Motorcycle ATV Dealer - J & J Motors - Kawasaki Suzuki Scooter Utility vehicle, parts, accessories, apparel Can anyone point me in the direction of the problem? It may still be a "clean carb parts issue" . My problem is that the parts list doesn't identify the parts to a degree that I understand. If you said" look at the pilot jet", I'm not sure which jet that would be....See what I mean? It'll run very good if I remove the air filter and cover the opening with my hand and part my fingers a little for the air to get in. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jim
  7. I have a 1995 scrambler and when i ride it for awhile it will start to smoke like crazy. This is what i have checked. The gas had some water in it when i drained it put new gas in it ran great for a while then i got on it pretty good and it looked like a cloud of smoke coming out anyone have i idea what my problem is?
  8. my quad sat for a while, so when i got it running it starts with choke on but will not idle whithout some choke. I took carb off and cleaned what i could with carb cleaner and it runs a little better but still will not idle. Any suggestions out there would help. I am wandering if I just need to take carb again and use carb cleaner or is there a jet kit that will help or any adjustment that might help??
  9. I have a 2006 yamaha raptor 80, that i am haveing an issue with. It has about 20 hours on it pretty new hasnt been road much it has been sitting for 3 or 4 years. The first thang is it wont start just by pushing the start button you have to push start it for some reason? And next thang is it will not stay running if you turn the choke off. You have to leave the choke on all the way or it will die, does anyone know what the problem is with this 4 wheeler? Thanks for all that can help me out here.
  10. just moved from sea level to about 4500 feet above see level. I already have a #170 jet in my carb...i finally got it to start after turning the fuel/air mixture screw a total of 5 1/2 turns out(it was running good at 2 turns out). gonna get a new jet and here's my question.....what size should i go up to? i'm trying to avoid buying a handful of different jets. and my next question is do you think i'll have to change my pilot?
  11. I just traded for this bike and do not know alot about it. It started fine when I look at althought it did seem to starter was having a little trouble turning the motor over. Now it just sounds like the starter is spining and it is not engaging. I took the cover off removed the starter torch limiter and the little gear behind it will spin very freely??? What does that mean? Battery is not the strongest in the world either. Anyone have any ideas? I down loaded a manual so I have some idea of how its put together. Thanks.
  12. 13. hey guys i"m new here but I have a problem hoping you guys could help. I have a 2001 polaris scrambler 500 and when i bought it the battery was bad. I would just start it with the pull start and everything worked fine. The head lights, the lights by the key turn, and the 4 wheel drive light . Then, I finally decided to buy a new battery and set up it up like I was suppose to and then installed it onto my a.t.v. Now, for some reason the lights don"t work any more. I looked around to see if a fuse box was on the a.t.v but I haven"t found one. Does anybody have a idea of where one could be or what could be the problem ? Any info. that you guys could help me with would be very nice. thanks
  14. Hey All, This is my first post about my first quad, so needless to say, I'm a newby! My wife suprised me with a brand new Suzuki 500 axi for Christmas and I absolutely love it, but I do have a couple of issues I need to work through. First, the tires are ITP Terracross 26x9x12 front and 26x11x12 rear. They are 1" taller and wider than stock. Shouldn't be an issue, right? I went through some snow covered forest roads today and discovered I'm suffering severe wheel hop on the front when clawing for traction. The stock size tires did NOT do this, but then again, they just spun (stuck) in similar conditions. The Terracross tires just chewed down and I kept going forward. Never got stuck but I was afraid I was going to snap an axle or blow the front diff. I powered down and kept the hop to a minimum but I'm VERY uncomfortable with the setup as it is and am considering putting the stock tires back on but hate their lack of traction. HELP. Seriously, any suggestions. I cranked the front spring settings up two notches to try to remove the severe dive this quad has, but it did not help much. The front suspension just seems WAY too soft. Thanks for any advice you can offer! Jim
  15. Hey guys, Im new to the ATV world just got an 86 kawasaki bayou 300 2 wheel drive the guy said it prolly needed a carb kit, said he rode it in the summer and started fine but winter its cold blooded and doesnt start very well. So i tore down the carb, put a kit in it, cleaned it out real good put a piece of wire through every whole to make sure nothing was clogged, put it back on and its doin the same thing, itll pop over once in a while but nothing to keep it running. Its got good spark and seems to have decent compression, not sure what the compression is but its there. Help Please
  16. Somebody help !!! I have an 03 Yamaha Warrior 350 and everything was running great up until a few days ago when I cranked up for a quick run around the yard and it won’t do anything but idle. It starts easy, idles ok, but the second I touch the throttle it starts bogging and backfiring etc and dumping a mist of raw gas back out the air inlet side of carburetor. I’ve pulled the carburetor apart now three times checking things out and unfortunately don’t know enough about these small carburetors to tell if something’s worn out. No visible damage or anything. But one thing I did notice was that the needle has some wear where it runs through the slide, but like I said, I don’t really know what the wear limits are as I cant find info on that stuff anywhere. The ignition timing is right on the money, I checked the valve clearance and they were ok, the coil checks out good, etc. But wonder if it could be the CDI breaking down under load or maybe the same thing with the stator? Cylinder compression was also check and came out above average at about 125 psi. I’ve talked to a few ATV mechanics that say it’s still the carburetor based on what I tell them. You can definitely tell it’s running way rich at idle due to the strong smell of unburned fuel. One thing that does strike an interest is with a timing light on it at idle, the fire is strong and consistent. But when you try and give her a little more throttle the fire is intermittent right along with the miss in the engine. The spark plug is brand new, but the one I just removed did have noticable soot on the electrode and beneath the threads. It's done this a few times before, but only for a few seconds or until I get it warmed up halfway decent. Then it reved fine and hauled a**s as usual. I have debated on buying a new carburetor, CDI box, etc… but that combined is about 600-700 bucks, and I just don’t want to start throwing parts at it. I have even pulled the side cover to make sure the stator and such weren’t damaged. I am pretty much at a stand still and dont know where else to look. Could it really be the carb? Please tell me there's somebody out there who has had the same issue and figured it out????
  17. hey all. I have a 05 LTZ-400 and used to ride it very often. Now things have come up (college and other things as well) and i have not ridden it for about a year... now some issues came up. one big issue is Well.. everytime I try cranking it up I see fuel pouring from the intake and into the intake bucket. Now... I do not know much about Quads but my main hobby is cars. I currently have a 3000gt VR-4. So i have a fair amount of knowledge about mechanics. Anyone know what has happened? only modifications it has is an exhaust and K&N air filter.
  18. I am new but also need help. I thought I would combine the two posts here. My name is Francisco and recently I acquired a used 300cc King-quad. I am going to use it for fun, but mainly for woods / hunting. It starts and runs, but when I gas it...it just dies pretty much. I have ordered my manual, but it won't be here for a few days at least. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. I have fixed a couple things on it already. I have fixed the winch and installed a ignition switch. However, there are a couple things I very much need help on. 1) The left hand handlebar. Where does that wire / cable go? Right now it is rusted and i am trying to free it at the handlebar. However when I removed the seat, the cable is just laying there...I think...lol 2) How do I adjust the A/F ratio? Is it the screw next to gas inlet and some other screw I saw on there?
  19. Hi there, I just bought a 1989 yamaha breeze 125 for my daughter, and I seem to be blowing plugs after every ride....wondering if anyone knows the correct spark plug i should be using or if anyone has had the same problem?? I dont have the manual, but wondering if the guy i bought it from was using the wrong plug...once i put in a new plug it runs fine for that time then next day need to change the plug again.......thanks carrie

  22. Found this courtesy of ATVFrontier dot com, if it helps someone great if not sorry. K-TECH NEWS Vol #18 Issue 1 2005 KVF750 Connector Corrosion Creates Electrical Havoc Do you have a KVF750 exhibiting strange electrical problems? There have been reports of some very strange electrical symptoms that can be difficult to diagnose. Typical symptoms are listed below in the order from most common to the least common: 1. Fan does not activate and the engine overheats 2. Meter stays on and the battery goes dead 3. Fuse keeps blowing 4. Engine stalls when 4wd is engaged and does not restart, but it restarts in 2wd. 5. Engine starts without ignition key (when just green button is pressed). 6. Check belt light is flashing. The cause for these symptoms can be often traced to corrosion forming inside one of the two white plastic 1"x1-1/4"x3/8" joint (BUS) connectors that are taped to the main wiring harness. There is one under the front fender between the front shock towers and another one under the rear fender near the fuel tank. So far the problem has ocurred only on the rear connector. More specifically, the rear connector/harness is attached to the tube frame just to the right side of igniter/control unit area. If you pry open the cap of the connector, you may find greenish corrosion (electrolysis) formed inside between the bare metal contacts. The electrolysis occurs within the connector because there are positive and negative wire terminals joined together without any barrier to seperate them. On the rear connector the white wires are always on (+), the brown wires are ignition on (+) and the black/yellow wires are ground (-). If your customers ride in deep water or somehow cause water intrusion into this connector, a special prevention is required because the problem could repeat. After cleaning up the corrosion or the main harness is replaced (because the connector itself is not available seperate), some dialectric grease should be applied inside the connecter and it should be well sealed to prevent further moisture intrusion. The ultimate repair is to remove all of the black/yellow ground wires, solder them together and seal them seperately from the connector.
  23. Ok I just installed a new motor (My old one blew up piston skirt shattered) I installed everything correctlt..I think! I got it running tonight with no issues it started right up with no issues. I let it idle for about 5 minutes just to let it heat up check fluids etc. I shut it off a few times and it started back up with no issues. So im standing there and all of a sudden it goes wide open so I shut the key off....it still ran, turned of the on\off switch...still wide open running!!!! So i figure let me yank the plug wire...I did and made sure there was no arc and it was far away to not spark.....still wide open running!!!!! so in a last effort I unscrewed the top of the carb that houses the throtle assy and ripped it out and it finally shut off......WHAT THE $%$%$#% happened!!! has anyone ever heard of this ??? there are no kinks in the wires the throttle works fine as far as the cables go but im afraid to try and start it again without someone giving me asvice on this or if they ever heard of this! HELP!!! Ive been working on this thing for over 2 mos!! I just want to get it running correctly! Dave
