  1. Hi, I have a photo of the power steering. My question is: where, what is the bolt, or as it is unscrewed or screwed something happens? The point here is that I have a backlash on the steering wheel, which fall into the eps and the end. I would like to spin it and see what is forged.
  2. Hi guys, My first post here. I picked up a trx 70 for my kids a few years back for $300. Just got around to playing with it. Its in great shape however I have a couple problems. 1. It runs fine with the choke on (up position) but when I push it down and adjust the pilot screw and throttle stop screw for a nice idle it has no power when I give it gas. It stutters and wants to stall unless i let off the gas and just feather the throttle. If I put the choke up and adjust the screws for a steady idle it runs fine and has plenty of power when riding. Obviosuly this isnt right and I want to fix it. I took the carb off, disassembled it entirely, cleaned it with carb cleaner and air from my pancake air compressor. I made sure all those little holes in the jets were clean and I could see light through them when I held them up to the lights. I also replaced all the gaskets with oem honda gaskets and the little fuel strainer too. I believe I did a good job. I didnt take apart the throttle valve assembly. The piece that goes into the top of the carb which is attached to the throttle cable. I think I read somewhere that the needle clip might need to be adjusted 1 notch up or down. Can anyone confirm that? Would this make a difference on the choke being screwed up or does it sound like I need to take the carb apart again and poke a piece of wire through the main jet? The choke issue is definetly related to carb right? 2. I replaced gasket inbetween the intake pipe and carb. There was no plastic insulator. I ordered an oem honda insulator and oem gasket and installed them. Now when the bike is running i have an annoying whistle coming from that area. Its almost like the insulator is 1/8 of an inch small and left a tiny little hole for air to escape. I have the insulator facing the right way and tried turning it in both directions to make sure I didnt install it wrong. I am left with tiny gap either way. Its driving me crazy. The previous owner cut and installed his own gasket and made it a little larger to cover up the entire face of the carb where the intake pipe bolts to. I dont understand what is causing it and Id prefer to keep the bike 100% stock. I'm not a hacker. Here is a photo so you guys know what I mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im new to wrenching quads but I learn quick and I've been taking things apart and putting them back together sucessfully since I was 5 years old. I'm 36 now. We have great running 86 suzuki lt50 and my kids are driving me nuts to get this 87 trx 70 going so they can ride together. thanks guys! -George
  3. Was riding last nite, bike was running fine came back to camp let sit bout 20 mins. Got back on it and it started fine but when I gave it a lot of gas it just kinda bogged down. Maybe it was hot? Or Crap in the tank maybe? Help! Still out riding!
  4. Im not familiar enough with the workings of this bike to know where to start on this one, the problem im having is that suddenly the bike wont start with battery power......it just sort of buzzes/clicks like a dead battery, i charged the battery and got the same result...bought a new battery and again got the same result, thinking maybe i got a crappy battery bc it was a cheap knockoff i bought another new yuasa battery only to again get the same result, but heres what confusses me....on a wimb i tried my jumper box and this p.o.s. starts right up, any ideas on whats going on here would be greatly appreciated
  5. Hello everyone, this is my first post to the forum. I have a Honda Fourtrax that will not start when you push the start button. no kick start. However it will start if you jump across the two posts on the sylenoid. thus far i only sprayed wd40 into the start and kill switches. any suggestions?
  6. Hey, I cant think of any reasons why, but on my 400ex, when I give it alot of gas and shift through the gears(usually when I get into 3rd) my choke comes on and my wheeler bogs out and dies unless I clutch in and turn the choke off. I cant think of why this would do this. It seems like it started somewhat recently. Last summer I put a set of rings and valve guides on the 400ex, but ended up gettings rings a bit to big, and the wheeler continued to smoke, so this spring, im going to tear it back down, anyways I wanted to know if anyone knew why the choke was kicking on? I would like to order all my parts at once and do all the work to the wheeler while im doing the topend this spring.
  7. hey i got a ltz 400 and we just took it apart and we looked at the piston and everything it was all good and the rings were a little dirty so we cleaned them and put them back together but there was some marks on the piston where valves hit it. could a bent valve mess up ur compression ?
  8. i was just out plowin my driveway and my atv died.tryed to restart and nothin on the star button and i have no lights in my dash .i can pull the bike over on the pull start and it won t go .so i assume theres no fire getting to the spark plug.any ideas be great since i have like 2 feet of snow to plow .thankx
  9. Hi My o5 eiger 400 manual starts ok with choke, but if I run it for several minutes at high speeds it stalls when I come to a stop Could a weak battery cause this as the battery is weak - winching during snow plowing seems to drain battery Thanx
  10. I have a 2009 Outlander Max LTD which I swamped a few weeks back. Went through the routine of draining everything and changing the oil & filter until I had everything flushed out and good clean oil. Now my machine fires up no problem when cold, does not appear to be burning any oil, no active P codes. After I ride for about an hour and everything is good and warm, when I shut the machine off and go to fire it up again, it turns over really hard like the battery is dead. It will start again after some coaxing. Then I can ride again no problem and it starts fine after I get it loaded, get back to town and unload. This has me worried that I am going to get stuck out in the woods with a problem machine. I suspect that maybe I have a scuffed piston or stuck rings? But before I go tearing down the engine and spending a bunch of cash, I was wondering if anyone out there has seen the same type of problem?
  11. Up until a few months ago my 2006 500 has been running great. My son was riding it in the yard one day and I noticed that when he'd let off the gas it would backfire a little bit but I didn't think anything of it. This last weekend I took it up north deer hunting, before leaving I stopped at the gas station and filled it up. The first time I had a problem with it I was driving down the road at full throttle and completely let off the gas, the engine reacted as though I had turned it off, it came to a complete stop and backfired that sounded like a gun shot. It started right back up again and again I went full throttle down the road, the same thing happened. I took out the spark plug and it looked fine, unfortunately I couldn't find a store that had a replacement plug. After I put the plug back in it seemed to behave a little better but it still acts like it wants to die and backfires a little bit. I found that if I feather back the throttle instead of just letting it go it doesn't act up quite so much but obviously something is wrong. Could this be a bad plug? I'm not sure if this is related but the battery is still the original and depending on how often I ride it needs to be recharged every once and a while. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
  12. I got a 1986 suzuki 230lts it has been sputtering and spiting when you add a a little throttle so i took apart the crab to look for crap, i found not a speck of dirt. BUT i found that the pilot screw was messing a few parts, the washer and the o-ring. would that cause it to sputter when a little throttle is applied, it almost feels like the breaks are dragging when you give it a little throttle. thanks for any imput!
  13. I use my ATV for harrowing a horse sand school. Last week engine stopped 15 minutes in use. Re-started twice but just loss power within seconds. Finally would not re-start. Stripped and checked carb. Replaced plug. Will not start - any ideas? Using 4wd and mid range gear. It has always started well with charged battery.
  14. Hey guys, New to the forum and atv's so I may ask ALL KINDS of questions! Just traded for an 03 Kawasaki Prairie 360 4x4 that seems to bottom out in the rear REAL EASY! I'm a bit of a large guy, but it seems to sag pretty good with normal size family members. When the suspension cycles in the rear, just by pushing on the rear rack, the shock makes a LOUD hissing sound like it's not got enough fluid or something. Any ideas or do I just need a new shock or is this normal??? Thnx
  15. Okay so I put a video up on youtube for audio and visual refferences. I seem to be having some issues with the fuel delivery now. I took my stock airbox off and i am running straight UNI Filters and a 147.5 main jet and the e-clip on my mid throttle pin is all the way down on the 5 notch, making the needle as high as it possibly can go. It seems that no matter what I do the thing runs rough in low to mid throttle, but wide open and idle it runs fine. refer to video. I have a 145 main jet a 150 main jet and a 152.5 main jet. I am at a 1130 feet elevation, no airbox, in the video my quad is currently set up with a 147.5 jet, and e clip all the way down on the pin making it the highest it can go. it sounds VERY throaty and feels like it misses, but I think it might be something else. Thats about the best I can describe it in words, the rest will have to be done by listening to it. Here is the link [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRsan-PPgGE]YouTube - Yamaha Warrior Problems[/ame] If you have any suggestions, or know what settings I should be running on my carburetor let me know, I want to take it out riding, now that it is running, and now that the tempurature is below 100 degrees consistently! Before I was having issues with the stator and the clutch (got those fixed). Now its the fuel mixture/delivery.
  16. My 09 700 H1 keeps dying on me, and I thought I'd check to see if you guys have any suggestions on what might be causing it. This is long...sorry. It had been sitting for a month or two when I decided to ride it around the neighborhood the other day just to run it. Day 1 When I was pulling back into the garage, it died and wouldn't start back. My first thought was the battery, so I put it on the charger. It was pretty low (around 30% I think), so I let it charge and tried to ride it again a couple of days later. It charged to 100% per my Schumacher digital charger, but a little bit of acid bubbled out of the top while charging. Day 2 While I was letting it warm up at idle, it died several times after only running a few seconds each time. When I started backing out of the garage, it died a few more times as soon as I gave it throttle. Once I got it out of the garage, it died a few more times while giving it throttle in H. I rode for a few minutes at low speed with my son in the backyard, and it died a few more times when I would stop. At this point, I'm thinking bad gas instead of bad battery. Day 3 The tank was pretty low, the gas had been sitting in it a month or two, and I don't think I had and stabilizer in it, so I filled it up with fresh gas and some Seafoam the next day to try again. After a few more dies at idle while warming up, backing out, etc. I finally got it running long enough to ride around the neighborhood. It hesitated or sputtered a couple of times while giving it throttle at 30-40 MPH, but seemed to be running a little better after a while. Day 4 Today, after a couple of quick dies at idle, it seemed to be idling and running better. I took it out to our land to see how it was running, and it was doing fine for a while. After about 15 minutes of low speed riding, it hesitated or sputtered a couple of times, then died on me when I stopped. It took a few minutes to get it started again, died a few times while giving throttle, then I kept riding for another 15 minutes or so. Then it died, and wouldn't start again. I ended up having to push it around and winch it back up on the trailer. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this dying problem? Does it sound like bad gas that I just need to run through it, or something else? It's only got 369 miles on it, has run just fine up until now, and never sucked up any water. I did the break-in oil change at 100 miles and another oil change/air filter service at 300 miles. Thanks in advance for any info/suggestions...
  17. I have a 90 model 300 bayou bought new and taken very good care of. Always ran great and has given no trouble. It has developed a knock or rattle at low rpm when under a load. It starts fine and makes no noise at idle or when it is reved up. A frend that's a mechanic said it was the clutches so I had him put new ones in, didn't help. Carb has been cleaned, cdi box checked compression ok valves adjusted, stator checked and nothing helps. I don't know what else to look for. It sounds to me like the spark goes crazy and changes the timing, or like a bad fuel knock. This is a super good machine and has never been abused.I would appreciate it if someone could give me some ideas of what else to look for. Thanks....Kenny B
  18. hey guys! I have a 2006 polaris sportsman 450 and ive got a problem. The other day i started up my machine cuz i was going for a ride and I noticed that a light was flashing on my dash, so i looked down and it said ''FUEL''. so i went and filled her up with gas, when I started up the 4wheeler again, the same thing happened, the light wont stop flashing even if the tank is full...does enyone know what could be wrong.
  19. I have 2004 suzuki ltz 400 It idles fine but as soon as you get on the throttle it chokes out. It is not a fuel/carb problem. i have narrowed it down to electrical problem due to the fact that when I get on throttle it draws more power the quad shuts off. I think it is the magneto or voltage distrubtor. Also it runs fine only when the key is turned so lights are on. If turn key to lights off mode. the quad will die. any suggestions
  20. ok so i recently bought a 2003 arctic cat 400 4x4. i bought it cheap cause it didn't have spark, so i found the magnents fell off flywheel. i J.B. welded them back on and bike runs. i had one clogged jet. i took the fuel shut off valve out off tank to clean valve plus tank and found two small filters on valve were basically disintigrated. do i need to replace or could i put a inline filter in. the fuel was running out the overflow before and i didn't know if it was getting to much fuel since the filters were torn and opened up.
  21. I just bought an 88 quadrunner 250 ond it would have trouble starting sometimes. I figured the carb needed cleaning. I cleaned the carb put it back together, drained all the bad gas out of the tank and put fresh gas in it. when i tried to start it all it would do is crank and not fire off. the carb is getting gas and there is spark. tried putting gas in motor and a little in the spark plug still no firing off. i took the valve cover off and turned the motor but from as far as i can tell neither valves is moving. unsure if the valves just froze or just need adjusting. It was running when i bought it a few days ago but he sayed it was hard to start some times which makes me think it had asticking valve problem. Any help would be appreciated thanks.
  22. After riding my quad for a couple of hours it will shut off. After sitting for a short while, it will start again and run for a short while. It seems the fan is not coming on as it should. Has anyone else experienced this problem with their Polaris?
  23. I have a 1998 sportsman 500 4x4 . I am having a problem with the way it runs. The only way I can get it to run right is to hold the override switch in all the time. If any one has any ideas please let me know. Charles Roberts e-mail: [email protected] Phone: 248- 634-0759 Thank you
  24. I bought this quad about 2 months ago and it runs great. When I bought it the guy said all it neede was rear brake pads. I put new pads on it only to come to the realization that the rear master cylinder is frozen. I bought a rebuild kit for the cylinder and had the cylinder working until I put brake fluid into it. I put dot 3 brake fluid in it and tried to mount it and it had seized up again. I tokk it apart again and now the piston won't go back into the cylinder. I was told that the dot 3 brake fluid may have swelled the gasket on the piston. Can this really happen? Any help or suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!
  25. I have a 2003 Arctic Cat 500 Green automatic. I have just put in the third seal in the front where the drive line goes into the rear end. Put it together spun the tires, while it was up on the stand and no leakage. Took it out for 1/2 mile test ride and I'll be dammed if it wasn't leaking again when I got back. First time I replaced the seal I didn't use OEM. So I ordered two seals from Arctic Cat and Hubby replaced the second one. He isn't as mechanical as I am so thought he messed up. I spent 3 hours on replacing it this time. Made sure all parts were cleaned and fit good. Now it is leaking again. Am I missing something here? Is there a vent for the rear end that may be plugged and causing excess pressure to make the gear grease run out around the inside of the seal? I am open for suggestions.
