  2. Ok we have been riding today and noticed the brakes get progressively worse. I tightened up the cable and they were good for a while, but then about an hours or two later there was no rear brake again. So I took the tire and cover off and noticed about a mm of pad left on each shoe and the smell of burnt wires or something like that. I also noticed that it looked like there is supposed to be some kind of oil or something inside the drum, because there is an o-ring around the brake assembly that the drum cover goes onto, and some oil residue or something inside it. Could anyone possibly give me a walkthrough on how to properly replace the shoes and if there is any oil or something that is supposed be in there. Thanks Mike
  3. My rear brake is stuck. When I try to go forwards or backwards the brake stays engaged and squeals. I searched and found out that the brake lines get dirty and need to be greased up...I will give that a shot as soon as I can. It seems as though the handle bar rear brake is really loose but I couldn't find anywhere to tighten it down. I don't know if these two things are related - any ideas???
  4. Does any one know how to change the rear seal were the drive shaft goes into the rear end on a 2006 Arctic cat 400 4x4? thanks

  7. Well my bag on the back of my quad did not survive the last trip from last seasons riding so I am looking at getting a box for the back rather than the soft bag. My daughter would love to go riding with me on occasion with me and I don't trust her to drive anything... so I was looking as something along the lines of a Kimpex box (click for link) with the seat. Does anyone have any experience with these boxes or any opinions before I plunk down the coin on it. Thanks.

  9. I don't know if it's a common problem or just me, but you might want to check the hose clamps on your rear diff vent. Mine was leaking oil up around the bellows/accordian, and I noticed the clamps were loose. Upon further inspection, I found that not only the two connecting the bellows to the hose were loose, but the clamp at the diff vent to the hose was loose too. Freely spinning clamps can't be doing too much clamping. I replaced all 3 clamps with some better ones that actually clamp (from O'Reilly). I also went ahead and replaced the splice joint from the hose to the bellows with a slightly bigger one. I drained and filled the diff after that to be safe. The front is next...

  11. I am basically looking for a complete rear end for a 1998 Honda Foreman 450 4WD. My quad fell of a trailer and trashed the rear end. I need both shocks, swing arm, rear differential, and drive shaft. Pretty much everything mechanical that runs from the motor to the rear wheels. I am not exactly sure what years and models are interchangeable so please let me know if you have anything close. Please contact me at [email protected]
  12. Wide Rear Ends - YFZ450 Axle Install - How-To Do It YourselfIn our October 2007 issue, we had just finished installing a set of wide A-arms on our Project YFZ450. To complement the width of the front end, we also received a rear axle from Leager Racing. Many people wonder: "Since the front of the quad is already wider after you do an A-arm install, will adding a wider axle really make that big of a difference?" Well, yes it does. 14. Ok here goes the book Im about to write. I bought a 02 raptor 660 and the rear end was squeaking very bad. I took out the rear axle and noticed that the bearings in the rear are all tore up, there are only about 10 balls rolling around throughout the whole casing. Yes, you are right they are not in the bearing housing but in the center. I hear a lot about carrier bearings and Im wondering if the bearings that I am replacing are the carrier bearings or if there in another inside the housing because there is a small pipe inside the housing. The balls have wedged in the center where that pipe is and made grooves in it. Will this be OK to just replace the bearings and seals and ignore the groves on the inside around the pipe? Also, does anyone have any advice on how to pull these bearings and seals out of this because it is pretty bad, there was not even the center metal left on the bearings.
