  1. My big bear makes some crazy grinding/clanking noises when backing up. I am guessing that this is a fairly common problem since I am having a pretty hard time finding parts and when I do they are very expensive. Does anyone have any advice? What all is there out there for interchange? My big bear also has some other issues....if I am running it all day, I will have to change the spark plug at least once because it will foul one out. The rear end has been making this noise for over a year now and you can actually feel it through the machine also. My quad is not used for play but only work...search and rescue, running around the property pulling parts (80 acres), plowing snow, spraying weeds, fertilizing, and fencing. Once on a search and rescue mission while coming back on the gravel roads back to the trailers at top speed there was a loud bang like it bounded up and popped loose and continued going but it was loud and felt it very well. Has anyone else had these kinds of problems?
  2. Hi, i have a 1987 yamaha big bear with an electrical trouble...stator new, startor new, battery new, selenoid coil and plug new, new carburator....my mechanic man said to me all is allright with the new stock, but the bike have always sparkink touble pulse he always sparking...the timing is ok and valve adjustement is ok...i have 2 new stator and 2 have the same problem (RM stator)....the only piece is not changed is the cdi, but a cdi is about 300$ in canada...and my mechanic man said to me it's probably the cdi but if i place a order for cdi and it's not this one the trouble dont refund me because it's an electrical part... finally i found on another forum the people switch the white and red wire from the stator because the fire is about 45 degres off...anyboby trying that?? thanks for your help p.s. Excuse my poor english im french canadian

  6. I have a 2003 kodiak, 450, that the tail, light is being turned on by front brake control handlebar lever which I dont think should even happen . I have disconnected the brake switch by removing the spring. You can barely touch the lever and the tail light comes on the problem is after parking there is enough contact that the light dont burn but it will run the battery down in a period of 24 hours. Its a good machine with right at 5000 miles and 1500 hours but I am at the end of my rope with it
  7. I'm looking for advice and a service manual for a 1990 Yamaha 250 Moto. Its old but its mint except for a pretty bad driveline noise when changing from forward to reverse and back. It also makes the same noise if you are moving forward at slow speed and you bounce on the suspension. I think it could be the drive shaft U joint. Any advice or help with a service manual would be appreciated. Under the gun for timing. Taking it up north in a week and a half.:canadaflag:
  8. 9. Would anyone have a working link for the service manual for a 1989 Yamaha YFM350ER Moto 4? Thanks for everyone's time.
  10. Hi everyone,I would like to have some input from knowledgeable guys in the ATV world. It would be my first ATV and I kind of narrowed it down to these two models, got the quotes but I can't make up my mind which one to buy. I like them both, but there are few details that make the difference.YAMAHA 2014 GRIZZLY 550 FI EPS vs HONDA TRX420 PG Few things that make the difference- -More power 550 ( Yamaha) vs 420 (Honda) cc - Higher ground clearance 11.8" (Yamaha) vs 9.1" (Honda) - Bigger fuel capacity 20L (Yamaha) vs 13.3L (Honda) - Lock differential Yes ( Yamaha) No ( Honda) - Quoted Price ( best I got for out the door) Yamaha about 1000 more expensive than Honda - Honda's known reliability vs Yamaha's second best ( I may be wrong here, this is just word of mouth from here and there) The fact Yamaha has a sealed variable v-belt for its Ultramatic transmission can be considered a disadvantage vs Honda's transmission ?There is one thing that I'm not sure about. They both have almost similar weight but different size engines, how do you think fuel consumption would be in one vs the other. This is about fuel capacity rather than saving on gas, if the gas consumption is about the same ( not sure here), that 13.3 L on Honda really bothers me.What else ? What's your opinion ?Thanks in advance to all that will post a reply to this.
  11. Yes I am a noob! But I still require your assistance, I acquired a big bear and noticed the boot in the rear covering the drive shaft was leaking oil.... So I did some research and it looks like it could be the rear main seal or a loose yolk nut. So I took the liberty tearing the back end off the ATV and now what stands infront of me is the yolk nut. Leads me to my first question how do I even stick anything to tighten the thing it's nearly impossible and if it is tight how do I get anything in there to loosen it so I can replace the seal?? Please any help would be much appreciated!
  12. I am looking for a service manual pdf download for a 2006 Yamaha Grizzly 125. Does anyone have one they would be willing to share? Thank you in advance!!
  13. Hello everyone. I have a yamaha breeze that I am having some trouble with. I have a fully charged battery, but when I turn the key I don't get in dash lights (neutral) or headlights... I checked the fuse above the right side tire, and found that it was good. When I shift the quad into reverse, the "reverse light" illuminates, but when I go back to neutral I get nothing. Any help on where to start would be appreciated. I do have a tester, just need to know where to start. Thanks.
  14. Hey all, I just want to start by saying I am brand spanking new to the wide world of ATV's. I had one as a kid, then didnt step foot on one again till yesterday. And that brings me to this site. I just got a used Timberwolf 2wd of Craigslist. I am a very excited new quad owner. Its not perfect, it smokes and if you dont stay on the gas it turnes off most of the time. Also there is no battery atm so I am using the pull start. So heres my deal. I got it right around sun down. Rode it around for about 10 minutes, bought it. Rode it around again for another maybe 20 minutes as the sun was fully set. (It needs a battery before the lights will work I am told). So I park it. Next morning. I go outside, pull the choke. And she fires right up. Rode her around for about 30 - 45 minutes. I got home from that ride and was going to go park it. I down shifted into neutral so as to put it in reverse, and before I could get it in gear it died. And I hanvt been able to get it started again. Choke in choke out nothing. I have a couple ideas, let me know what you all think. 1. Clean the very very filthy air filter, not sure though it would make it die and not start. 2. Clean the carb. I am very confused though because it worked and worked then all the sudden nothing. 3. Get a battery. I am hoping that in getting a battery it will work with the electronic start. 4.Change the gas. The gas that came with it is discolored and looks old. Still, it got me 10 miles at least no problem. I kinda think maybe the fact that it cant hold an idle withoout being on the gas may have something to do with why it now wont start. Other than that, all I can think is to take it to a shop. But I am a broke ass so I really dont want to have to do that. Any questions or suggestions would be great.
  15. I have a yamaha blaster magneto wheel that is made for engine. it fits on the shaft correctly, however when i put washer and bolt on the wheel locks up, and im not sure how to stop this from happening. Any advice would help i am very stumped Thanks,Nate
  16. I have a 2000 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250cc. I tried to get my machine running after storing it for the winter and there was no spark. After running through the electrical tests in the service manual it led me to the stator. I am getting a reasonable resistance for the source coil (320 ohms) but a bad reading for the Pick up coil (13000 Mohms). does anyone have any experience with just replacing the pickup coil. I saw them available on ricky stator. If anyone could provide me with some insight as to doing so that would be great.
  17. I am repairing my 100 for the grandkids, the rear axle pinion gear is chewed up, but luckily I found a used on from an old moto 4 80cc that is interchangeable...I only had to change out the axle hubs, and they are splined, so that was easy. I now need to fill the rear casing with grease, as I cleaned all the old grease out. What should I use for this? It is sealed when assembled, with no way to check it or fill it further. Any help is appreciated.
  18. Hi. I sunk my 97 big bear in a water hole up o the seat. I drove it home after it being in a swamp. Drove it twice since and then it wouldn't start at all. I since drained the gas, oil twice, and changed the oil filter. also changed the spark plug and air filter. It fired up on two occasions only by the pullcord.(electric start has a grinding noise at first then it starts clicking noise). Ran o for about 20 minutes each, ran very high and wouldn't throttle back too much. Electric start did work before the water hole. any help would be great to get this thing started again!
  19. Looking to see if y'all can help me out. What motors fit in the 04 Warrior frame? What about an 03 warrior frame? Any other years interchangeable? Thanks!
  20. I bought 2 older yamaha's, one is an 86 and the other is an 87, they are both the exact same but one has a different engine code and I was told one was 80cc and one was 85cc. Problem is that I can not find any atv made back then that would have came with an 85cc engine. I believe they are little badgers and they only came with 80cc I think. Engine codes on them are 800cm3 and 850cm3, not sure if that will help anybody but if you can explain this nonsense to me I would appreciate it because I need to buy a few parts for them.
  21. I own a 1998 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x2. I recently purchased a Submarine Snorkel brand snorkel kit for it which didn't fit properly, so I decided to build one homemade. I ran 1.5" PVC from the stock air box up to the front of the quad. It passes thru the front right fender and pipes into a 2" PVC mounted to a crash plate on the front rack. I connected the crank case breather line into the 1.5" PVC as well. I made a 2nd Snorkel on left side of quad which is a faux snorkel since it's purpose is to conceal the breather lines I have extended from the rr drum brake, rr dif., and carb. I took care to loop the breather lines a couple of times to prevent water from getting in, in the event I ever sink the quad. I also siliconed the air-box lid and used Dielectric grease on all electrical connections. I don't go swimming with my Big Bear but I do ride thru fairly deep water occasionally and I just wanted the snorkel installed as a precautionary measure for those unexpected dips u take when traveling across what u thought was a shallow puddle on the trail. LOL. Any way, since installing this snorkel my quad has an odd throttle response. When riding at normal speeds it's unnoticeable, but when hammering the throttle or fluttering the throttle the response seems to lag. I also notice if I'm in a gear too high for the slower speed I'm going the quad sounds like it's about to stall. I know normally u downshift the slower u drive, but it used to drive in a higher gear at low speeds and not bog down like it does now. I'm told I should re-Jet my carb. I'm pondering installing Dial a Jet. Any suggestions from you experienced riders? Removing the carb is a PITA and reinstalling it is equally fun. I've already rebuilt the carb prior to snork install. I like the concept of a dial a jet being able to adjust on the fly, but wasn't sure if it's the way to go. Please help. Any advice is greatly appreciated guys!
  22. I have a 2002 Bear Tracker that has 10 rims/wheels. A friend has a set of new 12" wheels from a 2009 Grizzly. Will these wheels fit my Bear Tracker?
  23. I have a 01 yamaha warrior. I took it off the truck to go riding for a bit the other day but I ran into a problem. It started right up in neutral but as soon as I let go of the clutch it seems like it is in 1st gear. It was to go as if it's in gear. Once I shift it to 1st though, it locks up after moving a few feet. I'm stumped guys. Help me out please
  24. I need help. I hit a major wall. I tried jump starting my fourwheeler an it wouldn't crank by the battery. So I tried to pull start it and it would only try to fire up, it was blowing compression out the exhaust an when I gave it gas it would bog down. When I would pull the clutch it then it would quit. Before I put the other one way in the fourwheeler would pull start easily. That's my first problem. Next problem is my dads fourwheeler I just rebuilt. It will crank over by the battery but won't actually start. Its getting fuel because your can smell it, it's get spark because I grabbed the boot an held it like a idiot to check for sure. Idk what could be not making it start. I know I hit the kill switch to make sure it was on an when I move it to off the neutral lightstays on. Thanks for any help you may have.
  25. So I was reading and a stock 2003 wolverine 350 should top out at 55 MPH and mine only does 44? What could be dragging it down? Any ideas appreciated. Btw I'm new here so hello everyone! I hope this forum is better than the others that I joined.
