  1. Ok this is a new thread, but I posted an old thread a few months back, i will link it, and the ones that recognize the thread, that is me. UPDATE: Okay so I got a new carb (well used carb that I rebuilt) and got a new pilot screw, turned it two turns out, got a new stator, it starts up IMMEDIATELY!! I installed an Oil Cooler Mod with the Hayden 401 Transmission cooler, and couple of Fragola 90 degree -6an swivel fittings, yadda yadda so on, so forth. I put 3.3 Quarts of Valvoline Racing 20w50 oil in it. The clutch seemed to be slipping (it was sitting for 8 months (or more) doing nothing). Once it got warm and the clutch got wet (hehe sounds dirty) it seemed to shift fine, so everything is good in that department. Here is my question... I took the Stock Airbox off of it. I built an aluminum housing that holds my electronics and battery (some cutting of the plastics was done) and I'm running straight UNI Carb Filter and crankcase breather. It seems to be running lean at the current moment, do I need to re-jet the quad? Has anyone removed their stock airbox and run straight filter? If so what jet kit did you use? OR did you just adjust the pilot screw out (or in) to compensate for the lean fuel mixture? One other thing, my Haynes Warrior manual is right next to me, I'm just to lazy to hunt down the illusive instructions as to the correct way to turn the pilot screw in order to make it more rich/lean, does anyone know which is which? Click Here to get to my old post
  2. i just got a 2003 predator 500 its got a k/n filter and the polaris pure pipe so im guna assume its jetted to go along with those i gota couple questions how often do i need to change the oil on this thing i adjusted the rear chain and cranked those two bolts to tighten the carrier, and rode for a good 5 hours and it was loose by the end of the day, i was thinking of making a wood wedge or something to prevent the axle for rotating back to the loose position (hard to explain sorry) and lastly that polaris pure exhaust sounds good but is just a little too loud i know some exhausts have like adjustable baffles you can take out or add more can i quite this thing down without having to buy another silencer? thing goes like a raped ape i love it!!!!
  3. Have a 2003 kfx 400 decided to go for a ride and after 10 minutes it started to bog down after giving it gas.It starts right up and idles like it was new.It bogs down after reving it up will run all day at idle. The only warning i got was it did backfire a few weeks back and conked out drove it back to the garage and parked it.What could this possible be.Spark plug? Cloged carb? or electronics. Could use some help .
  4. Hey guys, my friend purchased a used (and abused) Raptor 660r and left it in my possession while he's over in Germany with the army. As a thank you to him for letting me use it while he's gone I'd like to get it tuned up and checked out for him, any idea what this would cost at the dealer? It's a 2003 Raptor 660r with some kind of full exhaust, and I'm unsure about any other engine mods. At the very least I'd like to get the oil changed, new spark plug, new air filter, and get everything inspected and adjusted.
  5. Not sure that this really is a 2003, but that's the date on the label on the front of the chassis. Anyway, this is one of the electronic gear models with switchable auto or electronic shifting. The D-N-R is done with a level to the left of the fuel tank. After sitting out in the snow for a few weeks over Christmas reverse become very stiff to engage and often did not despite the level being in position. After riding for about 20 mins it seemed to fee up and engage. Now I'm having the same trouble even getting drive. I know the lever just pulls a cable which attaches to a metal tube down near the back of the footplate on the left hand side. This rotates a rod which I assume is linked in somewhere to the gear changing. I can currently change gear by getting a set of molegrips on that and turning it. I assume its that rod that'stiff and not the cable because the cable looks nice and clean. I will take the cable off and check, but it's the middle of lambing season right now and quad maintenance isn't top of my list. Any ideas what's inside the gear linkage and what might make it stiff, if it is stiff? The engine oil is clean and full, I don't think the gear case oil or diff oil would affect this? Any hints or tips very welcome. Thanks
  6. So my Lakota Sport isn't running right. It starts and idles fine but gags out (doesn't die) when I hit the throttle unless I go super slow and once I get to the high revs I can play with the throttle all i want. I have so far; put in new gas, cleaned air filter, cleaned carb, changed spark plug, adjusted throttle cable, valves were adjusted about a year ago with only a couple rides on it. Any ideas?
  7. hello i recently picked up an 03 polaris predator 500 what are some good mods to do to get some more low end torque out of it. It has an fmf slip on and supposedly a jet kit other than that it's all stock.
  8. hey im new to the site and got a few questions if anyone can answer them. i own an 2003 yamaha kodiak 450 auto and am wanting to replace the fenders on it but i am wanting to put black fenders on it. The closest year model i found with black fenders is an 2005 and i was wondering if these fenders would fit and what i would have to do to make them fit? any and all help would be appreciated, thanks.
  9. Okay so i had a little problem with fuses getting blown and i took the entire harness off and found nothing, checked every single wire and nothing was wrong, then i put it back on and everything was working fine for about 2 months until the other day, i dont think the weather had anything to do with it because i hardly got to ride it and it just quit and keeps blowing fuses, as soon as i get this fixed im selling it. so any ideas guys?
  10. Does anyone know the factory settings for the 2003 Bayou 250 carberator? Thanks Louis 410 322 3399
  11. Somebody help !!! I have an 03 Yamaha Warrior 350 and everything was running great up until a few days ago when I cranked up for a quick run around the yard and it won’t do anything but idle. It starts easy, idles ok, but the second I touch the throttle it starts bogging and backfiring etc and dumping a mist of raw gas back out the air inlet side of carburetor. I’ve pulled the carburetor apart now three times checking things out and unfortunately don’t know enough about these small carburetors to tell if something’s worn out. No visible damage or anything. But one thing I did notice was that the needle has some wear where it runs through the slide, but like I said, I don’t really know what the wear limits are as I cant find info on that stuff anywhere. The ignition timing is right on the money, I checked the valve clearance and they were ok, the coil checks out good, etc. But wonder if it could be the CDI breaking down under load or maybe the same thing with the stator? Cylinder compression was also check and came out above average at about 125 psi. I’ve talked to a few ATV mechanics that say it’s still the carburetor based on what I tell them. You can definitely tell it’s running way rich at idle due to the strong smell of unburned fuel. One thing that does strike an interest is with a timing light on it at idle, the fire is strong and consistent. But when you try and give her a little more throttle the fire is intermittent right along with the miss in the engine. The spark plug is brand new, but the one I just removed did have noticable soot on the electrode and beneath the threads. It's done this a few times before, but only for a few seconds or until I get it warmed up halfway decent. Then it reved fine and hauled a**s as usual. I have debated on buying a new carburetor, CDI box, etc… but that combined is about 600-700 bucks, and I just don’t want to start throwing parts at it. I have even pulled the side cover to make sure the stator and such weren’t damaged. I am pretty much at a stand still and dont know where else to look. Could it really be the carb? Please tell me there's somebody out there who has had the same issue and figured it out????
  12. Hello. I acquired this machine as payment for a debt, so I don't know a lot about it. First, I had no no electrical functions at all. Battery would not take a charge. New battery and reconnect a grey connector at the front of the machine took care of that. Now it starts, idles fine, but misses and backfires as soon as throttle is opened, with parking brake engaged. An acquaintance who claims to be a motorcycle mechanic recommends changing the air filter and spark plug. I don't have a dealer close, but a local auto parts store is ordering them for me.
  13. Hit enter by mistake on previous post. I have seen references on this and other forums about testing the CDI. The service manager at a dealership in North Myrtle Beach tells me they cannot be tested. What's the real scoop here?
  14. Hey all, Still have my 03 wolverine 350. Where to begin.... I'm trying to figure out why its missing really bad. It was (still is, as you'll read later) missing real bad as soon as you got into it so I took it to my brothers place on my trailer because a mechanic from a Yamaha dealership is a friend of his and he was to stop by and look at it. Well, I dropped it off (my brother only lives about 8 miles from me) when he wasn't home one evening. He called me next evening and said I was right that the thing didn't have NO throttle at all. I told him when I dropped it off it had about less than 1/4 throttle then it would miss and just act real ugly. So I drove down and sure enough it had no throttle, it just acted like it had a rev limiter on it as soon as you touched the throttle. It idles fine and it starts fine. Anyhow, the next day the mechanic stopped by and went straight for the stock carb, there he found a pinhole in the diaphragm so i shelled out 100 bucks for a new diaphragm assembly online and close to that for another battery as oddly enough the battery was going also. Mechanic put it all back together and still no throttle. So he got to checking things and here the parking brake switch was going bad. Disconnected the 2 wires and held them apart and the throttle took right off (So he took the switch out and taped the wires apart). Took it home and 5 minutes into running it, it starts to miss again! Doing the same thing (I can putt around with it in the yard but as soon as i go to get on it it misses). BTW, wasn't my battery, my starter is bad. Put new battery in and even jumped it from battery to starter and nothing so I need to Now rebuild the starter:aargh: The Mechanic adjusted my valves and timing chain also when he worked on it. But like I said, I picked it back up brought it home because it had full throttle and he thought it was fixed, rode it for 5 minutes or less and its right back to the beginning and I'm minus a few hundred bucks. I know thats a long ass story but I wanted to tell it because I don't think its a coincident that that dam PB switch went out just by putting it on the trailer for 8 miles on nice roads. Does anyone think the PB switch was causing all this to begin with and now that its NOT IN IT AT ALL could it be why its running the way it is? And why did the starter pick the same time to go bad? Coincidence? The week before it started acting up I had just put a new CV joint and bearings in the left front. Plus I had to bend my hub back straight. I must did it jumping or riding wheelies. I don't know when or how because I did'nt notice the wobble until I took it out on the main road one day. 2 days after that my 5 year old nephew was on it going the loop in second gear and it started shutting off. I parked it. Then next eve when I rode it, is when it was missing real bad. Not only was it missing but about half throttle it acted like it had a rev limiter kicking in. So then, thats when I took it to my brothers. Coil and plug are new also. I need to figure this out because I'm really getting tired of putting money into this machine for parts I don't need. I also need to stop letting Mechanics from my local Yamaha dealer work on it! I think theres more to this PB switch but I'm not sure how smart the cdi is. If you all don't think its related any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if this helps but it doesn't take long for the engine to get hot (but I think those 350 warrior blocks always seemed to run hot) you know like, don't ride with shorts on hot . My oil temp light does work but doesn't come on. So more or less this Wolverines been down for a few months. Thanks all.
  15. I have the same problem on my 2003 WARRIOR, working on it right now... It runs OK on idle but as soon as I give it a little trottel it missfire badly.. Checked the carb/inlet and new spark plug. The spark is a little weak...
  16. My rear brake is stuck. When I try to go forwards or backwards the brake stays engaged and squeals. I searched and found out that the brake lines get dirty and need to be greased up...I will give that a shot as soon as I can. It seems as though the handle bar rear brake is really loose but I couldn't find anywhere to tighten it down. I don't know if these two things are related - any ideas???
  17. I have a 2003 Kodiak 400 4x4 that has quite a bit of play in the steering compared to other quads. It is not the tie rods or ball joints as they do not move at all when the handle bars are wiggled. Is there an adjustment or something I can check? Thanks!
  18. I have an 03 Suzuki LTZ400. I made the mistake of letting it sit a couple of months with some apparent bad gas. I tore the carburetor apart and the needle & seat were completely seized up. I replaced them and cleaned the jets. I put everything back together and it still ran really bad. I went ahead and took into the motorcycle shop. They tore the carb apart and gave it a thorough cleaning. When I went to pick it up the mechanic said that he got it running good, but the pet cock was bad. He said that he recommended putting a new one on it (~$110), but he would have to order it and that he had "rigged" it to where it would run fine in the meantime. He capped of the vaccum line at the carb and flugged the line coming from the pet cock and put the cock on Prime. He was right in the fact that it runs fine that way. I decided to try to find a cheaper alternative than paying the $100+ for the valve. I found a used one that came of a bike that was supposed to be working good when the motor seized up. I changed out the fuel cocks and hook back up the vacuum line. When I started it, it started missing and back firing. I plugged off the vacuum line again, put it on Prime, and it ran fine again. What are the odds that I have 2 bad pet cocks? Can the pet cock be taken apart and cleaned? Could this still be a carb issue with the vacuum? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  19. so i had my engine out last year all apart, i just put it in and it runs great, but after 1/8 throttle it has a bog/stutter even in neutral, like when u drive too fast in reverse, i checked all my wires but still cant find the problem, any ideas would be helpful
  20. I just bought an 03 ltz400 and I changed the oil, but I cannot find a dipstick or clear view place to check oil level, the dealer told me how much to put in, but what if its burning oil and I dont know any help would e greatly appreciated.
  21. 2003 Kawasaki Lakota Sport 300, runs perfect, there's nothing wrong w/ it at all, I change the oil and clean the air filter after every 3-4 times of riding. Tires hold air, but the tread on the back ones are worn. I love this ATV, and the only reason I'm selling it is because I want something a little bigger (trx450r). The Lakota is made to have fun on, or bolt on racks and use as a utility ATV. I can send pictures, just call or email me. I'm asking $2300 OBO. (405) 485-8895. E-mail: [email protected]
  22. I've got a low-mileage Kodiak - it's been mine since new and while I maintain it reasonably well, I've done zero work on it from an adjustment standpoint. It generally runs fine, but increasingly I find that it stalls out at idle (only). I've countered this by cracking the choke a tiny bit, but I know that's a band-aid fix. My best guess is that I need to do a mixture adjustment of some sort. Is there one for idle only? Alternatively, I could probably fix it by upping the idle just a bit, but I don't think that's the right way. I'm mechanically inclined and work on all my own cars, but new to bikes. i.e. I'll learn fast, but may not have a clue on some of the bike-specific stuff. In fact, all of my cars are fuel-injected, so aside from a snow blower engine, I haven't worked on a carb'd vehicle since forever. Feel free to link me somewhere if this is already covered somewhere pretty well. Thanks...
