  1. I was riding my 400ex one day and when i shut it off to put it in the garage i tried to start it put again to drive it into the garge and it wouldnt start.I put a compression tester on it and its like 30 psi with out throttle and 0 psi WITH THROTTLE. when i put my finger over the hole it fell likes its pulling my finger in more then its pushing it out Has good spark.When i took it into the shop the said it had 1oz of oil in it and a tiny pit of metal shaving(TINY BIT LIKE 30 flakes) When i try to pull start (push start/roll start) it made a not normal sound and wouldnt stay running. If my bottom end is blow why would it still turn over fine, Are my valves siezed or not working properly or is my timing off causeing valves to not open in correct order with fire PLEASE HELP all help is appreciated
  2. Some times I get spark some times not can ride then it just dies and wont get spark it has new cdi box and stator but I don't know if it has the pickup coil I'm at a loss

  4. Eiger 400 Suzuki runs fine Cook-Out joke face off the handlebars put it back on and will not start now will crank no no spark

  7. my o4 polaris 4x4 lost power just going down road at 10 miles an hour . Had only been on it for 20 minutes. Engine still ran just no power. Shifted into reverse had little power. Shifted back in forward and it ran for about 5 minutes then no power again. Was afraid to drive it any further so towed it back to cabin while still running.. It had power once again for a few mintues. No smell of anything burning . Several years ago I had to replace belt becasue it did something similiar. Could it be the belt again?
  8. Hi ya'll. I just got a 04 Kodiak 400 and Im confused.The left rear wheel moves like the bearing is shot so I figured its a quick fix. Much to my dismay when I looked at it before I tore into it ,it appears to have a drum brake-no bearing on the wheel. As this is the first time Id be working on a 4 wheeler job Im a bit hesitant. The manual only shows this has disk brakes.Its a sealed drum right behind the wheel.I pulled the wheel of expecting to find a bearing.Nope! Ive never done it before but it appears Ill have to pull the axle out to replace the bearing. Am I correct and if I am can anyone give me some advice on how to do it.The repair manual isn't much help. Thanks alot!
  9. I have a 2003 LTZ 400 that i bought a few days ago. The quad was running fine until last night. I let my brother ride it down the street and back and i didnt notice anything etong with bike. Then my neighbors friend came over and said "can i ride it?" I said "sure" so he ripped it down the road all fine and when he got back it died right in front of us. My brother said it was dieing on him also. He also said that he wasnt using the clutch to shift. I told him he was an idiot. Im throwing that in there incase that caused a problem as well. But today i go to check it to make sure its getting fuel which it is and replaced the spark plug incase it wasnt getting spark but it is. So i started it and it was having a problem starting then i got started and was reving at idle high. So i took it around the block and it died on me a little bit down, so i try to restart it and it started so i kicked it into 1st and it kinda launched on me and started going with the clutch all the way in. Then it died right after and wasnt running right during that process and was idleing all over the place and just died and now i cant get it started it again. Before it would start without the choke or priming it. It would start real quick now i cant figure if it needs to be rejetted or something else. Air filter looks clean also. But any help would be gratelly appreciated!
  10. Hi. I own a 2001 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4. I am looking to buy new rims for it. I just don't know what rims exactly that I need to get as the back and front rims have a different offset. I'm looking at the itp Delta rims. I have tires from my grizzly that I would like to use on my Kodiak. They are size 25. If anyone could help with the specific rims that I need to order, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. I have a 94 sportsman 400. It sat for several years before i got it. I have cleaned the carb it will start and run for about 5 min then it will flood. I have torn it down and cant see anything wrong. has anyone else ran into this problem any hel would be great.
  12. i was wondering if i could get some help. i been trying to locate where the fuel and air adjustment screws are located on my 95 kodiak 400. i think i found the fuel screw.. i know where the throttle adjuster is but i cant find the air screw. or is there an air adjustment on these carbs?
  13. Hi Everyone This is my first post and I was wondering if there is anyone who can help me solve a problem I have with my Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 Fitted with a Mikuni Carburetor . The year of the quad is around 1998, the reason I am not sure of the date is, there wasn't any paperwork and no details on the frame either. The quad had a bad leak from the carb overflow which indicated that the float needle valve was blocked or passing so I replaced this and put everything back together. The quad ran really well until I took it onto some rough ground to have a ride around, a few hours later the engine started to run really rough as if the engine was flooding. I have removed the carb again and cleaned the needle valve out and the whole of the carb just in case there where any dirt behind it. Engine now runs fine again but fuel has started to run out the carb overflow again. I have tried everything to try and stop the fuel leaking out the overflow but its still happening. My last thoughts where to adjust the float level and its still happening. Has anyone got any thoughts on the problem or could suggest whats causing the fuel leaking out the overflow.   14. Need some advise pls. Couldn't get the quad to start put a new cdi on it fired right up rode for about a week, now it starts just fine but will only idle for a few minutes then die, but will fire right back up...now it's running a little rough I rode it for about an hour and it started missing out when I even touched the throttle. I cleaned the carbs and cleaned the plug rechared the k&n air filter, still fired right up but same thing, it won't stay idleing and misses out and wants to die when I give it gas. It seems like it's getting too much gas or not enough not sure, or possibly a vacuum issue. Any suggestions
  15. Having a strange issue with the headlights on my Kodiak. Noticed there are no high beams, and when I switch back to low beam the lights stay off. The low beams will come on, only if I go from off to low. This is what I have going on: From Off to Low - Lights Work From Low to High - No lights From High to Low - No Lights Back to Off and to low - Lights work again. Just curious if anyone has had a similar issue, or where I should start troubleshooting.
  16. I am assuming it is leaking from the overflow. Took the carb apart and it is clean inside. Put it back together and gas leaks out the host at the bottom. Tested to make sure the drain screw is not the problem when I had it off.

I have a 2001 Yamaha Kodiak 400 (YFM400FWAN©) On a recent hunting trip a problem popped up and I hope someone else has experienced this, so that I can learn from them instead of going on my own hunt for an answer. The Problem: On cold days (sub 25 degree) I choke the Kodiak and it starts instantly. It revs up and runs on "high idle" without any problem. However when I return the choke lever to its "normal" position the ATV continues to run and a very high idle. I cant put it into gear until the idle comes down, which it doesn't. In order to use the bike I have to shut it off and when I restart it I must place it into gear before the engine gets a chance to rev up. It then returns to a normal idle and the machine behaves normally. This only happens on real cold days but it is a problem I want to fix. Can anyone offer some help?
  18. Had a 2003-2004 400 outlander given to me. Bike sat for 3 years. Drained tank and filled with fresh gas. Cleaned fuel lines and carb. eng comp 127. checked for spark with plug out and is nice and blue. Cranks but does not start. Fuses ok but inst cluster displays "fail" any ideas:aargh:
  19. i have a 2001 yamaha big bear 400 that i will be snorkeling i was wondering what size jet to put as main jet can i buy a stage 1 jet kit on ebay and that work ?? thanks
  20. after working great all weekend today my big bear 400 wont start. I noticed a strong gas smell, took cover off air box and found 2 inches of gas in the box. I figure this has to be a carb problem but hoping someone can pinpoint exactly what to look for/replace. thanks!
  21. I bought a 2004 Eiger 5 speed. The guy I got it from let it sit 3 months in the winter. It would start up but not idle and die out when you revved it up. I took carb off soaked it, cleaned jets, reset floats, new gas. It would sart but flood after a few seconds. Tore it down again. Now it won't start. Gas runs out the vent tube!!!! Sometimes the plug is wet sometimes not. Have good consistent spark and the flywheel had been changed out. Any ideas?! Is it a vacuum issue? Maybe carb boot between carb and head? And I checked the fuel flow from the pitcock so I don't believe that's the issue.
  22. I just bought a 2000 explorer 400 4x4 from a guy @ work. He told me that he was running it the last time he had it out and it quit on him. He said that he changed the spark plug but just couldn’t get it to run again. When I got it home I tore all the plastic off it to make it easier to work on and get to everything. It seems to be getting spark but won’t fire even after putting some gas in the jug. He told me that he recalled that when this all started he recalls that it overheated too. Doesn’t seem to be any coolant in the radiator either. Oh yeah, it seems to have good compression too. I put my thumb over the cylinder port and cranked it and it’s hard to keep my thumb over the hole. I also pulled the flywheel to make sure that the woodruff keys was ok. There was some liquid (seemed to be coolant) in the recoil housing too, if that tells a story too. I also checked the crankcase dip stick to see if was overfilled but its not.
  23. I have a 2007 honda rancher that bog down the other day and smoke a little after but now runs ok . What could it be . It has 97 compression and it only smoke a little while .
  24. I am looking for a good not to expensive winch for my yamaha 400 grizzley. All I am going to use it for is to raise and lower a snow blade 6-10 inches. I have been looking all over and many seem to feed back out a couple inches after feeding the cable in and I do not need that to happen. Any ideas on a winch out there?
