  3. These are tech tips compiled fron various posts on various boards, very useful information for new owners! · When changing oil take the fill plug out to let the frame drains flow faster and let the drain for ten minutes or so to get it all out. It also helps totip the quad on its side to aid drainage and prevent oil from running between engine and skid plate. · Also tip the quad when reinstalling tranny filter. Gravity will keep the filter in the bolt. Don't ever force it! · Use a 6 point wrench on the aluminum drain plugs to keep from rounding them off. · Always use antiseaze on the transmission drain bolt. · Do not over fill your quads oil . Even a couple of ounces will blow out all over your air filter. · You have to do the engine stud updates now, do not put it off . If one of these bolts come out you will pay dearly. Its not that hard and kind of fun (at least for me) · Make sure to check your battery connections because if they are loose the ecm with cause all sorts of weird running problems. And load test the battery once in a while to be sure of quick starts and prevent plug fouling. · Use star lock washers between your battery terminals and you battery · Don’t turn the idle down because you think its idling to fast. 2200 to 2300 is where it should be. If you have trouble starting it and it starts easier if you give it just a little gas chances are its to set to low. · If you run in mud a lot turn your headlights off. If they are caked with mud they will heat up the housings and deform the lenses. · If you need to get the flywheel off and dont have a puller cruise over to your local stihl chainsaw dealer ,the puller they use on the larger chainsaws works on our cannons. They did mine for free but I purchased the puller anyway afterwards. Part number is 1106 890 4501 A · When starting let it run for at least 2 minutes to burn the raw fuel off the plug before shutdown to help prevent fouling it. · Dont panic and overthink the problems if they occur , I thought my engine blew chucks while hauling the mail down a dirt road and it backfired and came to a stop. Turned out just a plugged fuel filter from a dirty gas can. Im glad they are see through. · Replace those steel fender screws with some stainless steel ones(couple bucks) · Buy a D&M kit the basic one is only $300 and if you ever have a problem you will save countless hours asking questions, hunting dealers, and generally being in a bad mood when you could have diagnosed your problem in just a few minutes. That also goes for getting the free service and parts manuals available on this page. · Inside the fuel tank fitting is a stainless steel strainer ,mine was plugged tight with the nastiest brown goo. While your checking it it is a good time to install new o-rings on the fitting shut off valve. a size r-01 seems to fit good. The one that swells is not the one you can see when you disconnect the quick coupler. · There is a mini tach from Track Master Inc Part number tr99 that you can install on the quad to check your idle speed if your don’t want to buy the D&M kit. It installs without cutting into the wiring harness because it is a self contained ,waterproof with inductive pickup that you just need to wrap the wire around the coil to make it work. · Don't leave the key in the on position, for some reason it draws down the battery · Use Di-electric grease on all of the electrical connections. Just pull the connectors apart and fill them with the stuff. · If you have access to the Maintenance & Diagnostics kit, reset the throttle position and idle regularly - I do it about every oil change. · Keep an eye on the rear hubs, they tend to loosen up and they will strip out · Check the swingarm buffer (chain slide) often, I've seen a few that where never checked and the chain had eaten holes in the swingarm. · Pull the a-arms and grease up the bushings really good once in awhile, they don't have much grease from the factory and bind up. · Pull the swingarm and clean/grease up the pivot bearings good at least once a year, the seals tend to leak and the bearings will rust. · For oil changes, tip the quad on it's side to aid drainage and prevent oil from running between engine and skid plate. · Reroute the tranny vent line up by the airbox if you play in deep water. · Do replace your worn tie rod ends with something other than stock. · Never throw away old parts. · Always keep fuel filters and gas line quick connect orings on hand. · Always use locktite on sprocket bolts and visually inspect before every ride · NevRDull and a fine ScotchBrite pad works wonders on that state of the art ALUMINUM frame. · Counter sink your tranny filter bolt so it will help self centering the filter · Always pull your fuse if you are working anywhere near your fuel pump you will short it out if you touch it with something · If you install nerf bars make sure you lube the holes in the frame with lots of antisieze or you will never get the bars out because they will gall in. · Dont let morons on your quad that dont have a clue how to start it because chances are they will get out of sight and stall it and try starting it like their quad and crank the snot out of it while pumping the throttle "personal experience"
  4. I bought a little Chinese atv for my grandkids on a sale. It came with an owners manual and a separate parts book. Neither of them say what brand or make the thing is. And the parts book is absolutely useless as there is no address to order parts from. I think the float in the carb is stuck as it runs rich and floods itself out after only a few minutes. When the engine is cold it runs like a top. The kids can really get the little thing moving, but after it warms up a bit it runs too rich and eventually stops. Any suggestions besides lighting it on fire?
  5. Hello, My son has an 05 or 06 200cc quad. Not sure of the manufacturer. The only markings or on the crankcase that reads Cobra 200cc. The rear wheels are locked and we would like to find a service manual or manufacturer to order parts. Thanks

  11. I have a Yami Bear tracker and want to add bigger wheels than stock. Tried installing some 12" wheels on the rear and right rear wheel hit the muffler. Buddy said I should get some wheel spacers and not lift the atv. what do you guys think and any brand you can suggest?
  12. Im a new member, I hope someone can help me. I was just given a 50cc childs atv, electric start, the name on the side says Flash. I have no idea where or what kind of parts I could use on it, it runs good but, doesnt idle. I have tried adjusting or tuning the idle screw on the carb, but it acts like it needs a needle valve maybe. Does anyone know where I could find a manual or contact information for the company that built these generic atvs? I would really like to get it working right so I can teach my son on it, before I go out and pay for a known name new four wheeler for him, thanx for any help guys and girls
  13. Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I am a senior engineering student in my final semester. My design team chose a new atv design as our senior project. We plan to design and build a go-kart which can go from land to water back to land on its own power. It would still operate on land as a typical go-kart does, perhaps with larger tires; we are adding a large fan to make it operate like a fan boat on the water, and of course a water tight base with enough buoyancy to keep it afloat. Part of our project is we have to prove there's a market for our design. So, my question here today is if this vehicle were on the market, would you be interested in buying it? Thanks for your help
  14. I use polaris brand oil for my you guessed it my polaris scrambler 01 500 2x4 its great tell me what you use sometimes i use other stuff but you have to watch out with atv oil some makers in production get dust and dirt in the oil and sometimes even metal particles
  15. Hello everybody, I need some advice on buying my next utility ATV 4x4. Ive narrowed it down to Arctic Cat, Yamaha, Polaris, or Can Am. Im wanting something with a 500-850 motor. I def do not want a 1000. They just seem too big and heavy. I am 6ft-5in tall and medium build. I currently drive a 1998 Yamaha Big Bear 4x2 350 and its simply too small for my body size. I also own a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 which fits me quite nice and has a comfortable large seat. My wife loves driving the Popo since its automatic, so I get stuck driving the Yamaha if she tags along for ride since its semi auto shift. Id like to trade up the Big Bear for a larger, reliable, capable, trail and mud machine. I must have 4 wheel drive and IRS. I like the reliability of Yamaha, but I must admit my Popo rides quite smooth. I just really dislike the Polaris CVT belt noise and the lag time it requires to move atv after u punch the throttle. I havent tested the new 2013 or 2013 popo sportsman to compare. Im not into extreme mudding, but my friends and I do snorkel our quads and drive thru deep water on occasion. So I would like an ATV that is water friendly, if there is such a thing. LOL! Ive pondered a can am xmr 650 but am worried the can am might be expensive to maintain or repair. I really like the look of the AC Mud Pro, but I have no problem modifying a base model to suit my needs. Whatever bike I buy MUST be large in frame size. I dont need gobs of power but I prefer a larger frame size. My Big bear and my buddys Honda Rancher are just too small. My butt actually hits the rear rack when I ride if I sit bk too far. Please share your thoughts, good or bad. I am not brand loyal, I just want a well made, larger frame bike for trails and some mud. Thanks!
  16. These are stock quads nothing added for more horse power speeds they should go right out of the gate. But remember these are claims of tops speed mostly on dirty roads and this is without cutting the limiter (DONT EVEN CUT THE LIMITER EVER YOU CAN BLOW YOUR MOTOR OR OVER HEAT THE ENGINE IN ABOUT 1 MINUTE OF TOP SPEED) And also keep in mind this could vary on temperature, climate, quad temperature ,quality of road dirt/paved, Pressure in tires and angle of rider.) 01-05,Polaris scrambler (2x4) MPH-65-70 MPH 01-05, Polaris scrambler (4x4) MPH-59-67 MPH Yamaha Raptor 660 MPH-78-85 MPH Can am Renegade 800 MPH-75-82 MPH Can am outlander 800 MPH-70-78 MPH Can am Ds650 MPH-78-85 MPH Polaris scrambler 850 MPH-79-80 MPH (Post your top speed on your bike post year cc's 2x4 or 4x4 and what after market parts added to motor anything not stock add to

  23. Hi All Completely new to Quads but been a biker for over 35 years. Bought this quad for grandchildren, It runs fine, at the moment has a Loncin 90 (86cc) engine but no other identifying marks to give me a clue as to model which will make getting parts difficult. Any help with ID would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers Joe
  24. Great to be on the boards. Just picked up a 2013 Polaris Sportsman 550 XPS LE. Its my first quad, and am just waiting for some slightly warmer than 10 degree temperatures to get out and enjoy it. My buddies were pushing me towards a dirt bike, but considering that I have kids it made more sense to go with a quad, not to mention I am just at an age where trying to keep up with seasoned riders just sounded painful. In any case, I plan to do the weekend getaways with the dirt bike crew, fully understanding they will likely be doing something different than I will. I ordered a bunch of gear for the next trip. Helmet/goggles, jersey, pants, gloves, and boots mostly MX gear. It made sense to have clothes designed to be in the mud and dirt and offer protection should something go wrong. In any case, my 2 wheeled friends are feel that its exceptionally ridiculous for quad riders to be outfitted in MX gear, and very mock worthy. ESPECIALLY, if the gear matches. They feel anything more than a helmet is ridiculous. I totally get skiers wouldn't dress like boarders, and when you golf you dont wear jeans etc. but is there a similar dress code for ATV riders?
