  1. I need the correct timing for my 650. Can anyone help?

I recently bought a 2002 prairie second hand for 2000$ .. just for the record it has 28 inch zillas on it .. anyway . whenever i put it in any gear , it takes a second for it to engage ... and when it does it clunks into gear ... is that common for that quad for that year ? or is it cause the previous ower didn;t replace the clutch springs to heavier duty ones ?
  3. So I am hoping that many of you more experienced riders/mechanics can help me out with a problem that I have been having with my 2002 kawasaki prairie. Just a little background first. I received this atv from my father in exchange for some work. It has been a great atv with plenty of power. It has been used mostly on the farm and has just over 2000 hours on it (2024). My father stopped using it for about two years. It sat inside his shop for this whole time. He claimed that it didnt run very well and isnt the type to go get it fixed so it just sat with a 1/2 tank of gas in it for over two years. This is where the problems began. I got on it and drove it and immediately noticed that it was gutless. Slow throttle response, little power and would only go about 15-23 mph. I figured since it had sat for two years the carb was gummed up and needed to be cleaned. So I cleaned it. Put it back together and still no luck. Talked to some friends they said clean it better. So I cleaned it in some of the nastiest carb cleaner that I could find. Blew out all of the ports and needles and got it looking awesome! Still was gutless. So I read forum after forum looking for similar problems and applied all that I could. I thought that is was the belt switch so I flipped it and actually put it in the "slow mode". Screen on the meter was flashing and everything. Flipped it back and the screen was normal again but still gutless. This is when I realized that I didnt put fresh fuel in (I know...stupid, but learning). So I put new fuel in and still gutless. I thought that it was the fuel filter. Realized that there was no inline fuel filter so I pulled the tank and removed the fuel pump and cleaned the filter that is in front of the fuel pump. Put back together and still gutless. Then I realized that I had been running the "cleaned" carb with the old gas and maybe thought it had gummed it up again. So I deep cleaned the carb again. So with clean gas, cleaned fuel pump filter, switch on the belt cover in the correct position and a very clean carb I still have a gutless atv. I am seriously at my wits end! Sorry for the long post but is there something that I am missing? Please lend me some advice. Thanks
  4. Ok, so I bought this atv, and after getting it home and running it for a while an engine noise developed. It was not constant but very annoying. After reading several post I thought it was timing chain tensioner and decided to tackle the job. I have the head off and timing chain exposed, but it seems good and tight. One area of concern I have, is to the right of the lobes is some piece of the cam shaft that seems to have lots of slack in it. It might be called the decompression cam. If so, is this thing supposed to be able to rattle around? If not, that may be my problem. Are there any clips or something of the sort that are supposed to lock it in tightly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im no mechanic but can follow directions.
  5. I have a 2005 650 H1, whenever I go to take off, I have to basically floor it to get it to move, and it only goes about 5ph with the engine revved up. I took the belt housing off and checked the belt, it looks ok,(no cracks), but its full of black dust. I swamped it a couple years ago and had to have the top half of the motor rebuilt. when rebuilt, a new belt was put on last February. My question is: would the belt possibly be glazed, or should I take it apart down to the wet clutch and check/replace that?

  8. My 650 was sitting for a while(1 year) put new gas and some additive in it. Can not ge it to rev up, only when the choke is on.
  9. Hi,I have a 2002 bombardier quest 650 .It misfires in reverse anybody have any ideas on what the problem is, it runs great going forward.

Winter is about to dump on us here in the rockies and I would likto servivce the bikes. last winter I just pulled the batteries, but now I want to change the oil and coolant. the thread for service manules isn't responding now. Give me an idea of what I'm in for to just change the oil on a 250 and 650 both are 08s.
  11. guys and gals I have a 2002 Kawasaki 650 praire it sparks once on each cylinder then stops i have replace wire harness, CID, regulator some one please help and why only 1 time if it was the pickup coil it would not spark at all need help thank eh
  12. whats up guys just wanted to get some opinions on jetting. My bike has a fmf powercore 4 slip-on, k&n air filter with prefilter, and I have been running the bike with the lid off. Ever since i added the k&n filter and ran the bike with the lid off it sounds like the bike has been running a bit lean. I put the lid back on and it seems a little better. The previous owner had told me there was a jet kit installed but the guy was definitely a tool so Im not taking his word for it. I havent had a chance to take the carb out and check the jet sizes but I'd like some opinions on what jets I should run with the add-ons. I also plan on adding a revbox and a few other goodies. Any opinon's or suggestions would be great. Thanks
  13. whats up guys i just got a question about a tach that i just bought. I kno the newer ds 650 bajas come stock with a tach but I bought a tach from autozone today that works with a distrubutorless ignition like every bike. The tach has 4 wires. a ground, power, wire for light, and the green wire which is what detects the rpms. i tried putting it EVERYWHERE on the ignition except any of the wires that come out of the cdi box. Anyone know where I should put that green wire? Or does anyone know where the wire for the factory tach on the ds 650 bajas go? please help i dont want the money I just spent on the tach to be a waste. I mounted the tach and everything
  14. fixed leaky caliper on 650 arctic cat 05 4x4. it is auxillary caliper on rear wheel. after putting caliper back on, i cant get the caliper to suck in any fluid so i can even start to bleed the brakes. took line off at the master cylinder tried to pour some fluid in the master cylinder itself, no luck. its like it is vapor locked or stopped up someway. any help greatly appreciated, thanks patrick

Just went riding recently the four wheel drive worked perfectly fine for about an hour or two. then all of the sudden when i went to engage it again it would not engage the front diff. the light comes on but the four wheel drive will not. does anyone have any ideas about what could cause this? or has had this same problem before any help will be appreciated. thank you
