  3. How to Winterize an ATV (I can't take credit for this, as I pulled this info off of ehow, but it is very good tutorial..) "Outdoor enthusiasts who live in Northern regions often store ATVs during the wintertime. Ice can damage the engine. Road salt is corrosive and can erode the undercarriage. Winter storage is a good way to extend the life of your ATV. You can learn how to winterize an ATV quickly and simply yourself, and never pay expensive shop charges to winterize again." Instructions & Things You'll Need: Gas stabilizer Oil Oil filter 1. Wash your ATV. Scrub every inch. Use an old toothbrush to reach tight areas. Mud and oil can eat away at surfaces over time. Good ATV maintenance involves thoroughly cleaning your ATV before storing it for the winter. As an added protection, hand wax your ATV once it's dry. 2. Change the oil and filters. This keeps excess dirt from settling in your engine. 3. Put gas stabilizer into the fuel tank and top the tank off with fresh gas. For best results, use premium gasoline. Run the ATV for a few minutes to allow the stabilizer to work through the carburetor. Shut off the motor and turn off the gas valve. Oil the chain. 4. Disconnect and pull out the battery. Charge it if necessary, and clean the terminals. Store the battery in a location where it cannot freeze. A heated breezeway is preferable to a cold garage. It's important to keep the battery stored out of the reach of children. Battery acid is dangerously corrosive. Store your ATV's battery on a high shelf or locked in a cabinet. Do not store it directly on concrete. Concrete causes power drain in batteries. 5. Push the ATV into a shed or garage. Do not store ATV's outside in winter climates. Place the ATV up on blocks and fill the tires to the correct psi to keep them from weather cracking. Expensive jack stands aren't necessary; cinder blocks or heavy plastic milk crates work just fine. 6. Cap the exhaust. To a mouse, it looks like a fine winter hidey hole. 7. Tarp the ATV to keep excess dust and vermin away. If desired, leave an open can of auto wax on the floor under the tarp. The smell repels mice, chipmunks and other small pests. 5. After I read read this I had to register so I could comment. I guess the have to approve my comment before its posted. If you do decide to post a comment, please keep it clean and intelligent. The first one or two replies kinda make us look like idiots. Especially jtusk's reply. LOL. http://blog.oregonlive.com/oregonianatv/20...ppen_why_a.html Heres more. OregonLive.com: ATV I guess it pisses me off when people who dont even ride are suddenly ATV experts. The way they described DuneFest last year kinda got to me. "The wildest ATV party of the year"? I was there. It wasnt wild. There were thousands of people there and I only saw one or two incidents in the 5 days I was there. The ATV industry and their poor design? Give me a break. We all know there is a risk of injury when riding. We choose to take that risk. How many members here have been hurt on your quad or at least had an accident? Probably most of you guys at one time or another. Now, how many of you would blame it on the quad? Poor design? LOL. I know my accidents (and there have only been a small handful out of the hundreds of times I been riding) were due to Mikey error not Honda's "Poor design". We have to take a stand guys. Any of you here in the Portland area who have been watching the news know we have been getting slammed the last couple days after a recent ATV fatality. Not sure about the details on that one. I think some woman (my condolances to her family) was riding sideways on a hill with a passenger? And it rolled? Imagine that. Yeah, the engineers at Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, etc better hurry up and get workin on that one.

Call us at 1-888-331-6422 or email us today for a Free Case Review! Yamaha has announced it is recalling certain model year 2005 and 2006 ATV models sold in the US because the protective “boots” covering the steering system’s tie-rod ends (universal joints) could be pinched during installation or adjustment, cutting a hole in the rubber. If this occurs, grease could escape, and contaminants such as sand or mud could get into the assembly through the hole, causing accelerated wear. This could result in “abnormal” steering free play. If the ATV continues to be operated without repair, the ball and socket portion of the tie-rod end could wear to the point that they separate, resulting in loss of steering control, which could cause a vehicle crash with injury or death. About 70,000 potential Yamaha ATV lemon vehicles are involved in the recall. Calling it a problem with “boots” might be a little misleading, however, since it does not really sound as serious as the problem might be if it happens to you. If the steering goes out it could easily lead to a serious accident or injury or even death. Other defects in these ATV vehicles may also exist. To find out about this and other recalls, click here. If you own a lemon Yamaha Bruin, a lemon Yamaha Big Bear, a lemon Yamaha Kodiak, a lemon Yamaha Wolverine, or any other lemon ATV or lemon motor vehicle, you may be entitled to your money back or a new ATV or new vehicle.
